Will = what you expect, think, didn´t plan to do. Going to = what you planned to do, what you´ve arranged to do. Sometimes they´re interchangeable like "We´ll need some sugar" (I didn´t plan it) or We´re going to need some sugar (if you´ve just seen that your sugar supply is low). That´s it. But the most important is to remember that languages exist for communication, not for torturing people with grammar rules. ;)
true languages exist for communication but its better to know the correct grammar .i am not a native english speaker but you see i came to learn and this class is no torture to me,its great. and i am listening to few every day.you see i loved your comment too.thanks
Haim Levy I think you didn´t get my comment right. I meant that grammar is important, BUT you shouldn´t torture yourself with those rules. Grammar is important, but above all, communication is the main purpose, as we´re doing right now, you and me for example, probably we´re from very different cultures communicating through English. That´s the magic of a universal language. Cheers.
I salute you and all teachers, tutors, and average citizens who go the distance, whether for pay or just out of the goodness of all involved, to help better other people's educations and knowledge. You Rock. Thank you. Mark.
The only difference is that in going to in future, you MUST use the base verb. I am going to GO home. In present continuous, there is no base verb. I am going home. Native speakers usually drop the base verb when we talk about the future......we just ignore the rules when we speak. However, you cannot omit the verb in written English grammar!
We use "will" to express uncertainty, often with maybe or probably, we also use "will" when we decide to do something at the time we're speaking. Just like you said "will is used when we do something quickly without thinking about it. And we use "be going to" to express a plan that is already made or decided. Simple as that. :)
You are outstanding! Thank you for pointing out that it is more important to learn how to use will and going to than getting technical about how grammar books say they should be used.
Thank you, Ulateach or "Ronnie." It is so resourceful having you and the others on here who try to, and do, help people; if there is one thing that this country and people coming to this country or studying the language of English speaking country’s needs---it is tutors on hand and on demand to help them.
Many Brazilians here kkkkkkk. I love the Canadian accent, is very easy to understand. Thank you for Lesson Ronnie, I gonna be a great english speaker one day, but now I'll watch another video from your channel
you are absolutely right....ronnie is doing a great job.We should appreciate her efforts rather than criticising.Because nobody in this world is perfect expect god. I want to thank you!!! I'm studing English since may last year, on Wise Up, The English School, here in Brazil, and you're helping a lot!!! I am 35 years and I still have difficult to undestand and to talk, but I like to study and you do this in a fun way, that's for sure! Thank you! You are the best teacher I've ever seen on youtube. God Bless you! bye ;-)
According to some bs placement test I did at my uni, I am supposed to be C1. I contest the validity of that test, strongly. I still need such basic lessons like this one about the proper application of the future tenses. Thanks so much. Your lessons are always very helpful.
From what I read in grammar books, "will" is also used when we talk about events we are determined to do, we are sure these activities will happen. For instance: I will go to Denmark next week ( it doesn't matter in this case, the long time that will pass by). On the other hand; " going to " is used to talk about future intentions. We can use the same example but we mean quite different things. If we say: I am going to go to Denmark next week, we intend to do so.
I wished you guys and girls would put the Eng Vid tests on You Tube. It was an excellent point you raised with 'will' being used for the immediate future and 'be going to' being generally used for the more distant future. Examples; 'I will see him now' and ''I am going to see him later.'
You are very good English language teacher, some peoples who are feeling jealousy from you click on dislike your videos. I courage you and continue your videos bravely

Hi Bogha' The first one is correct without the preposition "to". In this case the word shopping is called gerund which functions as a noun; and here you're using the progressive (contiuous) tense. However the second " I'm going to go shopping is grammatically correct" Here you are using the "be going to rule"

This is one of those grammar points that is not easy to teach. Ronnie, did you notice that, in 1:13 while trying to come up with an example using "will" and the verb "eat" when you turn to the board to write the exampple you mumble to yourself "Yes! I'm going to eat! I'm excited!"... :)
Paulina, there are some verbs- especially "to be", "to have" and "to do" that are "auxilliary" [helping] verbs. They are sometimes necessary to complete a tense. When they are used this means for example we have two verbs together, "I have cried" = to be + to cry, or "I did not tell him" = to do+to tell. Why? Because "I HAVE cried when people are mean but I don't care anymore" has a different meaning or purpose from "I cried during the movie today".

With some verbs, like "come" or "go", you just say" I'm going shopping" or "She's coming to Paris next month", You don't say: "I'm going to go shopping" or "she's going to come to....". Hope that helped.
hello ma'am:)..just want to say thank you for teaching us english lesson..you are such a good teacher..MAY GOD SHOWER HIS BLESSINGS TO YOU..GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS:)
Ali Rafie hi, we use "going to" to things that we are sure will happen soon. Like: I'm going to take a bath now. I'm going to school. And we use "will" to things that will take a time to get or we just aren't sure about, likes: I will travel to Seattle next year. I will buy a car when I have money to. Did you get it? Will is used to plan and stuff.
+Matheus Silva yeah i got it buddy thank you , but somebody once said sth that got me into thinking , we were sitting in the class and he said : i will be absent next session. i don't understand why he used will. ( he was a native )
