    Sicily being the biggest island of the Mediterranean needs at least a week to explore just a small part of the island. So many place to visit and thing to see.
    Plus the food is just amazing.

      Yes, Piazza Amerina roman villa is amazing and you will never see finer or more extensive roman mosaic floors. As an alternative to Ragusa there is also Noto - like an opera stage-set of Italian baroque architecture.

      Wy poor compared to Sardinia? Sardinia has just a few historical sites - Nuraghi + something in the Cagliari and thats that 🤷🏻‍♂better beaches though on Sardinia

    • @janverbanck
      @janverbanck ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sicily and Sardinia are very different. Look closer and even the cultural differences emerge. Two pieces of advice: don't spend too much time in Catania (2 to 3 says will do) and don't ever mention the Mafia or engage in so-called " Mafia or Godfather tours". In my opinion (and theirs...) quite unrespectful towards the Sicilians.

    • @petera618
      @petera618 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Poor relation to Sardinia, I don't think so. Economically speaking, they are probably at the same level. Historically and monumentally, I believe Sicily is richer given its history of many conquests and colonizations. Greek acropolis, temples, incredible examples of Byzantine style cathedrals, a wealth of palaces, castles and not to mention its gorgeous baroque towns and its natural beauty.
      Don't get me wrong, Sardinia is a gorgeous island with a beautiful culture and people. I will say that Sardinian beaches are one up on Sicily's, generally.

    Syracuse deserves more than 1-2 days to be honest, amazing place! You didnt even mention the beautiful market in Ortyigia, a real treat. Taormina is nice, but too many people everywhere. By the way, the highest volcano in Europe is Mt. Elbrus in Russia, then Teide in Tenerife, Canary Islands. It is 3.718M, Etna is 3rd. Despite that, great video! Sicily is super cool, I just did a three week road trip around. The one thing I hated was the drivers, way to agresive and dangerous.

    Nice video! What kind of drone do you have and where do you usually take off in these locations (i.e. historical sites and crowded touristy areas, volcanoes lol, etc.)? I always have a difficult time finding a good place because I don’t want to bother too many people. My mavic 3 classic is quite loud until it’s high enough where people can no longer hear it. Just curious how others operate their drones when traveling. Thanks!

      I have a DJI Air 2S. I usually take off from a place where there aren’t many people and fly to the areas I want to film. I also fly high enough where the sound isn’t really audible.
      Honestly some people are going to be a bit upset at flying the drone, but as long as you’re being respectful, just do it. Get that footage you want so you can look at it for the rest of your life.

      And as a heads up, I’m an American and they asked me for an international drivers license when I tried to rent, which I didn’t have, but I had to convince them to let me rent anyways and had to pay more. Maybe a scam, but something to be aware of.

    The Moors conquered Sicily and changed the ethnic make up of the island forever. The Sicilians know their history well, and Anglo Protestant America certainly treated them differently. Other than that, it's a great place.

      Sicily had been colonized by northern africans and phoenicians thousands years before: the medieval muslim military occupation wasn't a mass migration and after a century of norman rule, it ended with an ethnic cleansing by the German Swabian dinasty. In America the Sicilians and other southern Italians weren't well accepted mostly because violent crime (like the very white Irish): once their crime decreased the same did the hate.
