I love the entire Esselstyn family! I have never met any of them in person, but through their books, video interviews, and other related resources I feel a closeness to them. Rip in this interview is so informative and inspiring. The whole family, along with many other plant based advocates/experts, has been instrumental in helping me to turn my life of depression and physical suffering (due to inadequate eating) around to a life filled with joy and vigor. I am forever grateful and thankful. Great health ROCKS! Chuck Carroll you are AWESOME too!
i think masculinity is defined by a mans desire to protect and nurture the vulnerable, men who think they are entitled to kill animals, the most vulnerable group in this world, to make them selves more masculine is deeply unattractive. it is part of a larger sense of entitlement to use and abuse the vulnerable for self interest. I love men who care enough about those who cannot protect themselves to change their daily habits. The fact that it makes a man stronger and healthier and live longer is a plus.
I've noticed that here in the US, there are more men who associate eating meat/ having guns/ hunting animals with 'being a man'. But when I've lived in other countries, men don't seem to have those same preconceived notions. I've met dozens of men in Canada, the UK, the EU, and India who are vegetarian, vegan, or eat meat very seldom. Those foreign men haven't said that they 'needed' a steak, or that 'real men eat meat' as I constantly hear in the US.
@@JillWhitcomb1966 yeah i think you are right, im sad to see Joe Rogan who i respect in many ways promoting hunting and meat eating as if its some thing masculine and rational. The Australians are also very meat eating, so unfortunately are a lot of europeans especially the northern countries, i live in Indonesia and the western diet has been promoted here by the transnational animal agriculture industry so now i hear Indonesian men arguing the same ridiculous arguments their parent's would never have considered in order to preserve their new habit of eating a lot of meat. it is bizarre that otherwise rational and thoughtful men are suddenly unable to apply critical thinking to the subject of food. It does break my heart but i believe its changing, i hope and pray! My Indonesian trainer went vegan last year because he says he loves animals and he can no longer pretend to himself that his actions of eating them don't hurt them. I love him! He says his body is stronger and his mind is clearer for it and he's a very disciplined and strong athlete. oh i should add the indonesian health has gone to hell since they started on this western way of eating, they always ate a lot of sugar because its very cheap and practically no meat at all because it was so expensive and they were beautiful and healthy now they are fat and diseased like the west.
@@zantecarroll4448 I've been to Australia. While I found it to be outrageously expensive, it was relatively easy for me to find vegetarian or vegan meals there. Certainly, the Australians (at least the ones that I talked to) seemed more open minded, less belittling, and less bullying about 'not' eating meat compared to what I've experienced in my part of the US.
Rip came to Naples, FL after Whole Foods opened here some years ago...STANDING ROOM ONLY for the event....it was awesome! I'm 65 and have been plant-strong since 2012....and FEEL awesome...on zero meds....have zero aches/pains....still working full time and I donate my O+ blood every 65 days for some years now! I LOVE living and thriving this way! AND I HOPE to be like Dr Essy and his bride Anne in my 80's too! SO AWESOME!
I used to get a bit depressed or low sometimes, then I discovered that the cure was simply to eat some raw veg and I suppose it helped me feel connected to nature and the soil. Prior to that I rarely ate raw veg. That was the start of me incorporating more veg and fruit into my diet. I was having no success on the vegan diet until I started introducing more beans. I wish I had a swimming pool in my back yard or garden, my prayer.
I’m still amazed that hospitals (in Atlanta and surrounding area) serve steak and burgers to patients that literally just had open heart surgery. My brother, dad, and uncles. Now they’re convinced the apple is evil and that they need to eat all meat. 🙈
I had to stay a couple nights in hospital for tests. I thought I was going to starve to death. They had no clue about a vegan or WFPB diet. My family brought me food
Thanks you Chuck and Rip, Chuck I’ve been following you for a while now, I appreciate all the knowledge I been getting from your podcast, so interesting and all this information is helping me to change my diet, thumps up to you and all your interviewers. Happy New Year everyone !
I watched a Rich Roll podcast where Dr Weil said a PA medical school student started a movement to remove McDonald's form the cafeteria, and the dean of students called him and said stop or you'll be expelled.
Just want to say that I've been wfpb for about 9 months now and it's sooo true how your tastes change and you crave healthy food. I'm so turned off by junk food and animal products, even refined grains. They all seem so bland and boring and nasty. But Rip starts talking about Brussels sprouts and peppers, beans, etc and my mouth waters! 🤤
I was eating foods like u r talking about but my hair was falling out. I was eating chickpeas, lentils, Oatmeal, veg, fruits, salads, water... I started to eat animal products & I got my nails & hair back. I want to be vegetarian though. Maybe I will try again....
My nails seemed to suffer also from WFPB diet and also my neutrophile count was low.. So I added an animal products meal, usually meat or fish once or twice a week and I'm better. I have an egg serving once a month but still avoid dairy. It could be I just wasn't adhering close enough to the WFPB. IDK either.
Many people cannot do well just on plants, does not hurt the body to eat a boiled egg now and again. just not all the time. iam not as meat eat as in beef but i like baked salmon and i will not give up my salmon.
