    Geez, this is complicated! By the way you are an excellent speaker and this will make the series very enjoyable.

      Thanks Evan. The project is a little more complicated that others but in boatbuilding we make a practice of trying to dumb things down as much as possible.

    Mark, you picked a rather auspicious day to have a new series start. Won't be able to do this again for four years! Looking forward to seeing your process and your progress. Will this preempt the dory build? I can't imagine you trying to do two at once and video work. Even I'm not that crazy. Have a good week ahead and thank you for the exciting trailer to this new series.

    • @Nomadboatbuilding
      @Nomadboatbuilding  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well Happy Birthday Matt. This series will not preempt the dory build. I'll keep that rolling along. The 2.4mR videos will be a little less polished and shorter in general. I’m not trying to document the whole process in detail as with the dory, but give you regular snapshots and discuss the various challenges along the way.

      Actually it is my grandson's birthday so I will relay your birthday wishes to him. Looking forward to the dory build then and the occasional update on the 2.4mR. Hope you stocked up on coffee (lol). You are a little crazier than me but not much! Have a great week Mark.

      Luckily we’re not too far along in the series and the build isn’t too far ahead of the videos.

    The model posts on Instagram were a great preamble for this! I am really excited to see how you develop construction plans from such basic drawings. Will you actually draw up “plans” following the modeling or just take measurements from the model and construct from there? This is about as intriguing a project as I can imagine and right up my alley so I decided to throw in a six pack of Stella a month to help calm you through your frustrations!

    • @Nomadboatbuilding
      @Nomadboatbuilding  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool Mike. Thank you. No, I won’t drawing this up. There is no need to. I am lofting it out full scale though. The model is primarily to explore the shape and find out what will happen when I approach the planking this way rather than that way. At this point I've added enough layers of planking that it is no longer useful as something to pull accurate measurements off of. The plans have enough information for me to work with. I just need to fill in a few grey areas, which is what the lofting is for.

    I have seen vids on YT of these small boats, they look like fun. I am in the planning stage of starting the build of a sailing dinghy. The drawings are more detailed than yours, but my thoughts at the moment concern how to film and vlog the details without missing out anything and still make it interesting enough for people to watch, ha, ha. I will be following this project with interest.

    • @Nomadboatbuilding
      @Nomadboatbuilding  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well Dave, building the boat and filming the build are two entirely different jobs and it is extremely hard to do both well. If this is something you are planning to do yourself, my approach is this. Just focus on the building on one side. While going through the various tasks, think of the and variety of shots that would capture those details. Also try describing what you are doing out loud or think of the kind of voice over you may use. When I download my footage I organize it into folders related to the various building stages.
      I won't be trying to capture every detail on this build. I have an obligation to get the job done in a timely manner and I have other projects that need my attention too. It will be more like you're dropping in to visit the shop every few days.

      @@Nomadboatbuilding Thanks for the reply and the tips. I pretty much did that for the restoration of a fibreglass boat and the building of a trailer for it and have been thinking about any other ways I could cover this project. You have given me a few ideas here on how to represent the progression of the build. I guess there is no right, or wrong way, and if the posts improve and develop over time, that is no bad thing either.

      @@daleskidmore1685 The options for presenting a project are endless and exactly what and how much you want to present is key. I always have to pick my battles in favour of general productivity. I generate a tone of useless footage sometimes and it's only when I'm careful to drill down on something that I get a series of good shots. A lot of what you see in my presentation is the result of AV problem solving. audio for this was crap, something else was out of focus etc. even little sequences like me rolling out those plans. Twenty or more separate shots trying to get it right. Even some of the discussion will be a third or forth or fifth take until I get the thoughts out of my mouth without stammering over something. I clock a minimum editing time of one hour per minute of finished video.

    Hi I own a Stradi Mk IV which is made of planked Western Red Cedar and a Fibre Glass keel box. Whilst I didn't build it I do have all the photographs taken by the builder. Happy to speak to you off line if you are interested. I am based in the UK and the boat is currently in my garage.

    is there a table of offsets?

    • @Nomadboatbuilding
      @Nomadboatbuilding  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bruce Millar no sir. First question I asked the customer. Just the full size body plan. It’s always assumed you don’t need to loft when you have those. I however, disagree.

    • @brucemillar3015
      @brucemillar3015 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Considering your highly developed drafting and modeling skills, I suspect that you will eventually create an offset table for your version of the boat and, possibly, even a complete set of plans.

    • @Nomadboatbuilding
      @Nomadboatbuilding  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brucemillar3015 Well I don't know about doing up a full set of plans myself but I may consider a supportive construction drawing to augment Malmsten's plans.
