I know right? LOL And I kept everything in it pristine and when I got to age 35, I thought "why not get everything out and use it" duh LOL I was always a slow learner LOL
You need to be very careful when writing on the back of photos. Sometimes the ink will bleed through, ruining the photo. The best solution is to write on paper that has been cut to size and which can be glued to the back of the photo. The glue also acts as a barrier against the ink. Congratulations on your journal. What a lovely way to recall your memories.
Thank you for sharing Diane. My sister Dale and I are also 1960s babies and, like you, had 'glory boxes' at around 15 years of age. I've heard them called 'Hope Chests' also but never liked that name. I still use the cutlery set that was placed in my 'glory box' over 45 years ago! I also have a similar memory journal in the making - where I add bits and pieces of family history as I find them; I absolutely love the addition of your parents' handwriting. Great idea and I will do this also as I instantly recognise Mum's handwriting always, it stirs warm emotions. Photographic negatives seem ordinary to our age group but will become more and more nostalgic as time goes by, love the way you have used them. Finally, you mentioned houses that you have lived in - I think old address book pages would be a perfect way to record where you and your family used to live; furthermore, it would be a great help to future genealogists! Love Pat
Hi Pat, so nice to chat with you. Do you know that I had saved my entire glory box and when I hit about 35 or 40, and one day I thought, you know, what on earth are you doing? So I opened everything, it was like christmas, and it was a lovely present to me xx just like a wonderful shopping trip but didn't have to spend a cent. You're right, old address book pages are a great idea, I'll def borrow that one! I think it might be interesting even to young people these days to see telephone numbers 3, 4, 5 digits long. It's really a time capsule and you are spot on - it will be a great help to future genealogists. We all seem to take an interest in family history only when we are old. Sad that there comes a time when there is nobody older to ask about people in family pics etc.... Love Di xx
Talking about Glory Box ....takes me back tooooooo many years....lol....tfs ❤
