I love the visual story-telling that all the Chiss military uniforms use:
12 families, all with different colors, leaving the military to wear black as a combination of all colors, for they serve all families equally. Meanwhile, Navigators and Admirals wear white, for they serve no families, but the Chiss as a whole.

The eyes and skin could be from a genetic mutation. Everyone on earth today with blue eyes have a single common ancestor that lived 10,000 years ago. There was also a fisherman from Iceland in recent times that survived at sea in freezing water for hours and turned out he had a genetic mutation which helped him retain body heat almost like a seal.

"27,000 BBY...back *BEFORE* the *INVENTION* of the Hyperdrive and FTL travel." Seriously, Alan? I'm gonna need my glasses for this one. **puts on obnoxiously nerdy glasses** Any youngling who knows 5th grade Galactic History can tell you that the existence of the Hyperdrive goes back well beyond 27,000 years BBY and that the modern Hyperdrive was reverse-engineered from the Rakatan Hyperdrive in the Corellia System. The Rakata had FTL technology at least 10,000 years before the founding of the Old Republic. And we know that they inherited that when they overthrew the Kwa and stole the secrets to their FTL Infinity Gates, and the Kwa who in turn took that technology from the Celestials who were traversing the Galaxy with FTL Drives well over 100,000 years BBY. And who's to say that the Celestials weren't inspired to develop hyperdrive technology from the Purrgils who have had the natural ability to fly through hyperspace for the Force knows how long. When you don't know something that basic about Galactic History it just really makes you look like a dork Alan. **pushes up on the rim of obscenely nerdy glasses**

I was thinking of the Wookies - they may actually get along!
Wookies have a code of honour that emphasizes cooperation and despises corruption. And living on a ice world wouldn't be that hard for them (Chewie was naked on Hoth - outside).
The Wookie pathfinders would be _very valuable_ in that region of space and may well have explored there.
And with their long lifespans they are capable of a lot of learning.
There are worse places for a Wookie diaspora to end up in, it would've made sense to go there and pledge loyalty to the Chiss (and the use of their pathfinders) when things got rough for them in their own neighborhood, although they really should have snuck off with the Lasat.
I just want to see militaristic Wookies living up to their full potential under the pragmatic culture of the Chiss.
No freaking wood fixtures, and they use their claws in cost l close combat.
They are a technically skilled race, use technology without the get back to nature vibe.

    • @billclark5055
      @billclark5055 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

@@casbot71 And their population would increase if they left dangerous Kashyyyk, but there is a cost to this. Wookiees are skilled and adaptive warriors in part for their dangerous environment. They could learn better formal training to counter this and the Chiss could give them armor.

  • @nilok7

...aside from having more advance starships, the Chiss sound a lot like the T'au from 40k. The devotion to the role in society, the noble caste that runs the government, stealth suits, small territory, blue skin. I wonder if they were inspired by each other as they were developed more.

Suggested topic: How to reform and fix the Republic in the pre Clone Wars era?
Say around 200 BBY when it's relatively static and just slowly sinking into corruption and complacency.
    And a separate what if?
What if Yoda had been taken out or retired around the start of the Clone Wars (maybe even around the time of TPM) and say Mace Windu had been made leader.
And what if Yoda wasn't in the picture for decades before.

@@turtlewolfpack6061 I'd say that's a likely real world culprit, with any associated mutations allowing for the body to more readily survive the high silver content (it can do all sorts of fun stuff to your renal system) The red eyes are a whole other can of worms though. Sure, I can see the evolutionary pressures of thousands of years underground selecting for an offshoot that can see into the infrared and having adapted to better survive metabolizing food and water that has been accumulating all sorts of minerals leached from the rocks. However...I'm not sure it could have developed into a racial norm in that short amount of time if they had a sustainable population. If they're not incredibly inbred it would have to be something else. That leaves....
...I'm guessing a viable theory would be some sort of gene therapy using the whatever residual tech survived their cataclysm. If you're going to be driven underground, develop a CRISPR-like viral therapy that gives your population the best chance of surviving.

I always wrote the Chiss off bc of Thrawn’s cold and calculated nature. I mean I guess they are like that, but they have a lot more dimension to them than I thought.
I play in Star Wars DnD 5e campaign, and my dm is thinking of doing an unknown regions campaign after our current one. This still (10:50) during this part of the video gave me the best character idea: a 7-12 yr old Chiss kid joins the rag-tag unknown regions exploration ship (it’s a remodeled Nebulon-B with tons of different people from across the galaxy). I’d play a non-Force class but with the Force-sensitive feat (Magic Initiate in regular DnD terms). Secretly, it’s a Chiss Navigator in training, who ran away from the Ascendancy. As Legends fan, I'd say the Fel Empire, particularly the Imperial Order.
The emperor himself was more of a constitutional monarch while the government was the same type of the galactic republic, but now with the moffs in charge of the administration of local systems, this due to the fact that the empire was created through the unification of the New Republic with the remains of the Galactic Empire with one of the generals being crowned emperor as part of the peace treaty.
The order itself used the light side, but they didnt focus their efforts on meditation and were not seeking to become one with the force, they sought and praised efficiency and efficacy alone, much to the dislike of the remaining jedi of the galaxy, and that put the strenght of the members between that of a jedi master and your average sith lord.
They also prevented the emperor from ever becoming a corrupt leader, having orders to kill him if he ever fell to the dark side and to execute themselves if they felt they were going to fall as well.
In short, they prevented corruption, they could sense if someone was acting immoral or embracing their inner darkness and they could kill them for it, it was impossible to be a corrupt politician much less an corrupt or tyrannical emperor with them around and if you tried to bribe or blackmail them, they would either kill you, kill themselves(if they felt tempted) or both.
Of course you wouldn't be able to become a force ghost by following them, but hey that was never a problem for the other factions.

Humans evolved on a constant set of natural laws on Earth, if they migrated to another habitable world with somewhat different laws of nature in 27,000 years the body would quickly evolve to match those variants in the environment such as blue skin and higher metabolism along with adjustments of the immune system.
