Great reaction. The piano at the end is the bridge into 'The One' which they closed this show at the Tokyo Dome with. The two songs started life as one but were separated quite early in the writing process I believe. They are quite different from each other, but they definitely share some themes and similarities.
You were not wrong thinking part of this reminded you of Dream Theater's 'Dance of Eternity', this is BABYMETAL's homage to them and that song - Kobametal is a big fan.
Now consider that, for a few seconds at the start at least, Su-metal's in ear monitor stopped working so she only had the sound of the drums to base her cues on.
If you get to see the full video with both 'Tales of the Destinies' and 'The One' played one after the other, the lights you will see in the crowd during the piano bridge is 55,000 neck braces with LED bulbs all lighting up - the audience were given them as they went in and told to wear them. They had another 55,000 to hand out for the second night as well - but they played a completely different set list, so those lit up during a different song.

I think the only people who can dance to this are Babymetal themselves. Prog rock and choreography are just another wonderful BM mashup.
This is my favourite BM song and I hope they do more of "prog rock", but I think this might be a one off given the direction they took on the last CD, Metal Galaxy. I bought the Tokyo Dome DVD (Delorean) just for this and the bridge into "The One". The rest of the concert is awesome, but this is the only live performance of "Tales of The Destinies" and it's the height of Kobametal's art/artifice/showing off/seeing what he can get away with etc. It's very obviously a homage to Dream Theater's "The Dance of Eternity", even the two titles echo one another. This could have been a complete disaster but Babymetal bring their unique singing and dancing talents to the song and the Kami Band are fantastic...as they always are. To so obviously reference another awesome piece of music and yet still be different and brilliant on its own takes a lot of skill...and either guts or hubris. I love the way the ending resolves from the prog metal madness into a beautifully lyrical piano solo before going into "The One".

I hadn't considered that it was an actual homage to The Dance of Eternity but now that you mention it, that does seem obvious. And a great homage it is.

Dream Theater's 'Images and Words' is one of BABYMETAL producer Koba's favorite albums.
Here's what he said about the development of 'Tales of the Destinies':
"Upon opening the World map of Metal music, this song as well really made me stop and consider how are we going to deal with the genre of Progressive Metal represented by such bands that I love such much like Dream Theater.
It took about 2 or 3 years to put it into the form that it is in now.
As you can imagine, there were a multitude of hardships to overcome to do so.
That goes for the performance side of it as well and we had to put it through countless, repeated changes to its arrangement to finally get it where it is now.".
The Tokyo Dome Red Night concert (September 19th, 2016) is the only time that 'Tales of the Destinies' has been performed live.
That version is slightly different from what's on the album, but pulling it off with only two guitarists on stage still impresses me.
A link for this song was sent to Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy.
His Twitter response: "Actually LOVE the new @Korn… and am BLOWN away by what you've played me of @BABYMETAL_JAPAN!
"Tales of the Destinies" is full-on PROG METAL".

    Tales of the Destinies
    Song by BABYMETAL:-
Babymetal only performed this song once which is at the Tokyo Dome to a crowd of 55000 fans over two nights which total of 110000 fans. This is Progressive Metal different from Dream Theatre which focuses more on Rock. Su-Metal ear-in monitor malfunction just as the song is about to play. Su-Metal has to relied on The Kami Band tempo changes to be able to synchronise with The Kami Band. As pros, Babymetal did a superb job that night. Those who love progressive music will appreciate the technical aspects and precision of the Kami Band and Babymetal complicated choreography. The piano melody bridge will lead to the last song The One from their Metal Resistance Album. Put Your Kitsune Up. Progressive Metal at its best. Only done once live at the Tokyo Dome.
Tokyo Dome (東京ドーム, Tōkyō Dōmu, TYO: 9681) is a stadium in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. Construction on the stadium began on May 16, 1985, and it opened on March 17, 1988. It was built on the site of the Velodrome, adjacent to the predecessor ballpark, Korakuen Stadium. It has a maximum total capacity of 57,000 depending on configuration, with an all-seating configuration of 42,000.
    Tenants:-
•Yomiuri Giants (NPB (Central League)) (1988-present).
•Nippon Ham Fighters (NPB (Pacific League)) (1988-2003).
Tokyo Dome's original nickname was "The Big Egg", with some calling it the "Tokyo Big Egg". Its dome-shaped roof is an air-supported structure, a flexible membrane supported by slightly pressurizing the inside of the stadium. It was developed by Nikken Sekkei and Takenaka Corporation. It was modeled after the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
It is the home field of the Yomiuri Giants baseball team, and has also hosted music concerts, basketball, American football and association football games, as well as puroresu (pro-wrestling) matches, mixed martial arts events, kickboxing events, and monster truck races. It is also the location of the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame which chronicles the history of baseball in Japan. It became the first Japanese venue with an American football attendance above 50,000.
The Tokyo Dome is commonly used in Japan as a measure for illustrating the size of large spaces in Japan, much the same way that football fields are used in the United States.

Just another... great reaction, thanks! :)
This is indeed an impressive performance for many reasons. And it's even more special because it's so rare and unique.
I'm not used to progressive metal so I was like WTF when I first listened to this one. But then I watched this performance and all made sense. Now (and followed bu "The ONE", which is actually a sort of spinoff from "TOTD") is one of my favorite BABYMETAL moments and I revisit it frequently. I totally love the little piano breakdown.

Nice reaction. A song so hard to perform even Babymetal only did it once. That says a lot about this song all on its own. Su has said she would like to try to do it again someday. I think they may have thought about trying it for the 10 years Budokan shows. For 2 reasons, 1 they did most of their songs for those shows. 2 Moa said she tried the choreography again but couldn't get through it because she couldn't remember which routine they did. Apparently, they had done so many versions she mixed them up. Personally, I don't know how they remember all the routines for just 1 album. They're up to 50 songs with different dance routines for all of them. Since they only did this once, if they made up new choreography, I don't think anyone would mind.
