This probably is the best video hike of Cannon Mt. I've seen, thank you for taking the time to explain the trail and your route to the top. Use to ski that Mt years back. A great guide for sure!
GoPro Black 10. iPhone 14 pro max. I record in 4K and edit in Final Cut Pro and "upgrade" the footage to a 4K final product. Sometimes on the car camping or gear reviews, I use my other cameras for close-ups, but hardly ever on these hiking videos because they are too heavy and too easy to mess up. (Fuji XT-4 and Canon 6Dmii).
Great video Rachel !!! If I may suggest : Type out a couple of lists, print them from computer, "Laminate them", ... and stick them in your backpack(s) (I attach mine with a thin lanyard, so NOT to lose the Lists ... A list for Day hike, B List for overnight Trail camping, and C List for Multi-day camping .... This works well for me ! Be SAFE out there
Yay Rachel, hubs and I have been watching you for a while now and enjoy your videos. We have been slacking in our hiking the last couple of years but you inspire me! Proud of you!
Nice video....brought back some memories. Haven't been on Hi Cannon in probably 20 years.....ladders look just as sketchy now as they did then......We did it last as a big traverse, up to Cannon like you then over the Cannon Balls (they were mentally brutal) and then the Kinsmans back down by the Hut and then to the car....was a long long day but a great hike. Figured you would have gone to the hut and refilled on water (and whatever baked goodies the caretaker made, lol) but sometimes just getting down to the car ona hot day is the only think I want to do.
Mentally Brutal. That is exactly right! As I was coming down from Cannon, seeing that next mound was so heavy to handle. When I realized I was going to turn left and therefore skip it, I was so happy again!
Ahh, 30. That is good. I have 17. I gain confidence that I can do more each time I get a new one done. It is fun to figure out how to do each one since different planning options exist.
Looks to me as if you're primed and ready for that next step you mentioned - greater distances/more difficult trails. Many years ago, I came down the Hi-Cannon Trail from the summit of Cannon Mountain - that ladder hasn't changed since that time. And you spoke of Carter Notch - one of my favorite places in the Whites, along with the Bonds.. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
Thanks, I do feel very good on days with a light pack. But when I put the overnight stuff in the bag, it's still hard. Probably some compromise will eventually play out with a somewhat lighter backpack. I think I could do the Franconia Ridge traverse now.
@@RachelWhelton I think you're talking about a loop hike, but here's a thought: Take a full gear backpack up to the Liberty Springs tent site - it's not that far from the trailhead - and see how you feel. If you feel O.K., spend the night and see how you are in the morning. If you're not O.K., pack up and go - downhill - back to your car. If, on the other hand you feel strong and energized, give a thought to continuing along the ridge line and 'looping' - again, downhill - back to your car. You might surprise yourself. Good hiking.
Very helpful beautiful video, I'm going this weekend , cant wait. Thanks for the great information
Awesome!

So helpful loved the vid
Glad it helped! Thanks for the comment.
Another great video. May I ask what camera gear you used on your hike?

Yes! Thank you! My list evolves almost every trip. But this would be a good idea for the essential, un-changing things.

Great video. Thanks for the effort. You're doing great.
So nice of you. I appreciate the comment. Thanks. Can't wait to get back out there!
It looks as though you have decided to conquer the 48 4Ks ? I've got 30 of them behind me so far.

Loved all the views of the notch and of Lonesome Lake!
Thanks. Me too. LL is awesome.

Good idea! @@jeannenimmo5
It's not your imagination. Kinsman Ridge Trail is rugged an exhausting. Going over the cannonballs is fun, and beautiful with a very remote feeling.
Thanks for the input of info! That one will go on my list for a future time.
Fun to do the ladder section!
Yes: it was cool!
