John really is a DnD expert. He even forgot to add his Hunter's Mark damage until the next turn. I dont know a single ranger who hasnt done that at least once

I cannot get over the name "Torskar" as a "badass barbarian name". It literally means "cods" in Swedish. I love it.
It can also mean loses, as in lost the game.
How Jon didn't get joke of the day for "I hate space Mondays" is baffling to me, that sent me :)

I love Jon's quote to Dom "I like the idea your rod is still firmly in my mouth".
One minor rules thing that was missed, once Jon had the Berserkers Axe he would have been required to attack the NPC on his square before leaving. It would have given Tilly one more shot at him. Ultimately it likely doesn't change anything but it could have.
comment section is dead asleep on the "I hate Space Mondays, said Starfield" gag, it was so funny they literally had to edit the video back under control

I'm hoping this is a preview of the cast of the upcoming RPG. Such a fun group with a good mix of silly and serious. And I keep forgetting that the cast are all working actors/comedians/voice actors beyond just being excellent on TH-cam, so hearing that Tilly voiced a character in the Baldurs Gate video game was a bit of a surprise!
I think she actually voiced several and also was a director for other voice actors. Very talented lady!

Tom's 'sentient shrub' joke was an underappreciated gem.
About half of Tom's jokes are, tbf.
I had to scroll through the comments to see if any other people thought that his joke should have been the joke of the day. Glad others caught it!
The drow was evil? Who could have seen that coming? The ending was a bit surprising though, when the gang smashed the coffin I thought it was over when Jon suddenly turned everyone into juice boxes in a surprise twist. Starting with Dom was a good strategy, the glass canon is both an easy kill and the one person (besides possibly Holly if she had rolled better) that seriously could hurt him. Well played Jon. :)
I do love how offended Jon got in the beginning when they teased him for being the probable traitor only to be right and all die horrible.
The fact that Jon was already so good with Speed and Might, and was so lucky to get the vampire that gave him the max stat of both, he was so overpowered
@@Nehu_22 That is certainly true but Jon been unlucky in most games so it was bound to happen sooner or later.
He still played well and deserved to win, the other players were a bit chaotic and that tend to work poorly against the vampire.

BALDUR'S GATE AND TILLY! A dream combo!
I think the heroes lost for two reasons
:- Dom was left unprotected
:- Holly wasted time smashed coffins instead of beating up John to keep his physical stats down
An interesting point to lower John's stats. Though overkilling with the coffin still up (John could intentionally drop a single stat to death) would undo the effect.
The biggest reason was John just having such high speed: ignores caltrops, immune to the crossbow which could have really whittled him down, and could easily run to all the npcs
So is this game literally Betrayal at House on the Hill, but in a fantasy setting?
Because that theme is right up my street.

While i am sad at the lack of a Cthulu group game this year i am super excited for some betrayal, especially with a baldurs gate flavor.
I have a feeling when the new TTRPG channel kicks off Dom will want to make Call of Cthulhu a regular feature, possibly even a campaign.

I like when Laurie does the intros, the jokes are just expertly laid within sentences that quickly explain the rules- top notch
Fun fact: I was actually playing Starfield on a monday evening when I first "watched" this (more like listened to and occasionally looked over) and was screaming with laughter with the whole "I don't like mondays" said Starfield-bit!
The gang need to play Escape From Colditz with Dom as the camp commandant, Sully as the Brits, Teri the French, Blair the Americans, Laurie the Dutch and Tilly as the Poles. People think this is an all vs one game but it's actually everyone for themselves and I could certainly see some people selling each other out whilst others work together.
Love the dry delivery Tom has. Glad he's back for this one.

Great episode guys! Love this version of Betrayal! Two things: 4th edition is NOT rubbish. 😜 And destroying the coffin in Haunt 8 is a Might/Sanity ROLL with a DC, not an attack… Sorry, no Beserker Axes or other attack modifying items/Omens/abilities/substitutes/etc. allowed! 😢 Keep up the good work!
Dom shouting out Dungeon Crawl Classics (as Jon's spooky shadow), I love it! On that note, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say nobody will mind if you just play 5e/1D&D, but I'd love to see a DCC or other deadlier system run. I think DCC specifically has an energy that would really play well with the personalities on this channel, and the level 0 "oh no my characters are dropping like flies" would be hilarious.

1:12:30 Can you use the axe to smash the coffin? Is it an attack against the coffin, or are you making a Might roll? If its a Might roll I don't think it's classed as an attack, meaning you wouldn't (paradoxically) be allowed to use the Axe to smash the coffin.
I think they got this wrong. It is a might/sanity roll, so it's a check not an attack.
Thanks for enduring the game. I can only imagine how long it was going on when John starts wanting to do less optimal moves to end quicker.
This video reminds me why I don’t like betrayal. You have no idea how short or long a game is going to be, and player elimination can make someone sit around for an hour.

Yeah, it really shows the danger of waiting for the fight to come to you. Holly should have followed after Jon or been the sole person on coffin duty while the others go after him. In every version of Betrayal, it seems that getting everyone into the basement area is a bad idea.

So I just wanna say I just found this channel looking up for a board game I just got (The Dead of Winter) and I wish I lived near this sick cafe cause I love board games so much and don’t have many friends to play with. I do however come to work early to play board games with my coworker/best friend and we have a blast. So thank you for this channel just to have to watch. It’s super awesome watching these games since Table Top and Game the Game haven’t released anything in a few years.

I honestly thought it would be just a landslide after the haunt, didn't expect at all how it went.
This was a good Halloween game with a lot of fun! Laurie did a good job keeping up with the rules and pointing things out, even when it hurt his side. I know some people don't like how much Betrayal can swing, but I think it is more fun than a lot of heavier games where you can know you will lose almost from the start due to just not being as strategic/getting dealt a bad starting hand. Your mileage may vary, but I think the losing side had a good shot to win before certain decisions put it out of reach. I also really enjoyed all the DnD references, even from known DnD hater Jon.
Dan and Dannan *are* two cool chaps, just like Jon! And so are Dom and Joseph 🥰

Try the apocalypse players podcast. Dom is one of the players. They have games of different lengths, settings, rpgs. It's good.

Not surprised Sully isn't there. Im pretty sure he mentioned on a podcast he just doesn't enjoy Betrayal. I can understand it as i feel that way about Nemesis. I just can't get past all the rules lol.
I can totally understand why people wouldn’t like betrayal. Everytime me and my friends try to play it we get twos turn in and everyone’s confused/people get concerned they’ll be the traitor and get stressed about the haunt rules before we even get there.
ok so i havent made it to the end but destroying the coffins isnt an attack roll. its a stat check roll. they are might and sanity rolls but arnt attacks so the weapons do not aid in destroying them.
Jons rolls were absurd in this game, you love to see it from the resident Wrestling historian.
could be wrong but i don't think the axe can be used on the coffin. the might/sanity roll sounds like a skill check rather than an attack

oooOOOooo 4e was fiiiIIIiiine, objectively the biggest flaw was not doing enough to encourage players to roleplay in the text and not having anyone who was any good at making adventures in WotC itself, objectively they had more support for noncombat mechanics than 3.5 they just did a bad job of supporting themmmmmm
(But seriously, the 4e edition wars really sucked, and I'm waving this post around to ward off more edition wars stuff like I'm trying to scare away a vampire with a cross.)
I ran 4e once as my first D&D experience with a completely new group. It was HARD to learn, but honestly 5e isn't much easier, I'm just a bit more experienced.
Now, DCC? That's a system that you can just pick up and run.
