Nicholas Janke, You forgot Abbott & Costello, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloid, and Charlie Chase, and I'm sure there are others you left out. And to me Will Rogers wasn't funny, witty but not funny. Also, Charlie Chaplin wasn't as funny as Buster Keaton and Harold Lioid, but Charlie Chaplain did write a beautiful song that was recorded in 1967 by Petula Clark "This Is My Song".
I always thought Fields did his best work in short films. The same with Laurel And Hardy and Charlie Chaplin. Fields's best films were The Dentist, The Pharmacist and the Golf Specialist.
no way, those shorts sucked and weren’t funny at all,his best movies were Man on the Flying Trapeze (1935) You Can’t Cheat an Honest Man( 1939) The Bank Dick (1940) and My Little Chickadee (1940),The Bank Dick was the funniest,he did his best work when he left Paramount and signed with Universal and had complete artistic control
Fields turned down The Wizard Of Oz to do this film. Bad business decision. Wizard Of Oz is a household title but this film is known only to purist Fields fans. Fields later got his chance to play the Wizard in a manner of speaking. There was a Canadian Wizard Of Oz tv show with the Wizard character made to look and talk like Fields.
W.C. Fields was just about the most original comedy genius ever!
W.C. Fields, Laurel And Hardy, The Marx Brothers, Will Rogers, The Three Stooges, Charlie Chaplin-these guys were all classics.
