- Welcome to Flying Finish, a THIS vs THAT special where we race Travis Pastrana’s Gymkhana 2020 Subaru WRX STI against the widest array of cars that we can find. BUT, there’s a twist… at the end of each run, Travis jumps his car at 100+ mph. Why? Because he can. On the exact same ramp he used to jump at the top of 6th gear in Gymkhana 2020.

Yes.
The fact that the STI can make that jump at 100+ multiple times and doesn't even skip a beat is crazy. That suspension setup is nutty.
Honestly rally cars have been doing that since the 70's or earlier, so have other off-road racers like Baha 1000 vehicles. It's still cool but not surprising at all.

well the subframe is also not stock. try this with the stock subframe and it will fall apart. Travis car is not even a wrx STi at this point cause its so heavily modified.
@@james3420 it’s still a WRX STI . All rally cars are modified to be rally . You can’t rally a Stock STI need to be modified for a rally .

It was a roll race from Chris’ pace, not a set speed. That puts Travis at a disadvantage because he’s constantly having to adjust, which makes it a lot harder for him to stay parallel.

If they had rolled evenly than giving chris the advantage, I think the WRX couldve had it. Regardless love the video with the professional sportsmanship attitude they equally share, both really balls to the wall impressive mad cars I wish I had.
@@therealsarlic4702 yea, one really needs to nail the left foot braking game to minimize that disadvantage. Which i guess is not easy with such a combo of good racing brakes and 800 turbo horses and no practice.
@@joshspades9031 nah the altima was catching up both times that it was stuck spinning rubber and in the last race it was creating distance between it and the subaru that was clear as day.
It’s these types of video that make me say: “wow I just got to watch that for free. Unbelievable!”

@@LuisRiveraPr00 this was filmed after LSfest and before Indy Cleetus and cars I believe... which had tx2k like two weeks before. All three LSfest cars were broken so short of showing up with a Hertz rental car, he was going to have to borrow a car.

It’s so wild to me seeing Travis working with Hoonigan, and ken bringing Travis in on Gymkhana. I love it, though, I remember watching travis since the early 2000’s I’ve followed him since I was 5 he was my idol, and now seeing him in this setting and not letting his legacy end with motocross and freestyle but keep the torch burning like this. I know it’s my opinion but there will never be another like Travis. Not in during our lives at least

I just wish the video quality was better. Larry chen is awesome! but He can't do photo and video both. If we got this in better image quality that would be so sick! Or even just uploading in 4k to get the extra bitdepth from youtube would be huge. Even 1080p footage exported to 4k and uploaded to youtube will have significantly better video quality thanks to the bit rate increase!

@@Pratagraph Right?! Why they don't run a Red or an Arri Alexa in 8k and down sample it to 4k is beyond me. The production value is already great, but with a full frame cinema camera the quality of this series would be even better!
@@DennyBalance yes you definitely should. TH-cam has significantly lesser bitrate in 1080p and that really affects video quality.
Even when I shoot 1080p 60fps I always export to 4k TH-cam preset on Adobe premiere. The uploaded video quality is much better I've compared and they're night and day at least to my eyes.
@@kali6651 they may not have the budget for it in this series to have someone man an arri Alexa.
But Larry Is already shooting on full frame cameras or at least it looks like it from the little snippets we see him shoot in the video.
Just the mere adjustment in export and upload will lead to much better quality!

Altima is a drift car so ya, gona lose almost every time. Same for most other drift cars. IDK why they match em up with other cars that are much more drag capable, id rather watch 2 similar vehicles go at it.

Travis is such a great personality Ive been watching him since I was a kid and I’ve never gotten sick of him like every other action sports guy
Besides how insane the engineering and power these cars put down, the fact that STI takes that ramp and still puts down power immediately after while remaining straight is INSANE.
Rally cars are no joke, favorite racing media of all time for that reason.

I am from Travis’s home town, and literally we all grew up emulating him. All throughout davidsonville-edgewater-mayo you find a bunch of middle and highschoolers out on dirt bikes and BMX bikes doing sketchy half built jumps and drinking energy drinks with pit vipers on and travis started it all. Like Travis, i’ve graduated to cars now but i’ll always remember where I and so many of us started and Travis is the reason.

@@tygermccullough8865 head gaskets don’t go out for no reason. Cars from manufacturers have flaws and so does the ej. And there are many many solutions to it. Do your supporting mods and you’ll be fine. I own a 2019 sti. My neighbor has a 2013 which he got in 2013. Runs great. Look on TH-cam bro. There’s a lot of info

Travis knows his stuff. It comes down to weight, traction and power. Pound for pound, Subaru took it.
It can drift, and it can go off road. So yeah its a bit better over all.
Honestly Subaru really makes my favorite cars. Best all rounder, may not handle as well as a good RWD, but it still handles great and has way more grip.
Better than RWD for the most part unless the rwd is on slicks, but that's not practical for daily use haha
