I've never owned a gleaner but if I was to buy a newer combine it would definitely be a gleaner , it's nice to see they're sticking to a proven design and keeping things as simple as possible for this era. And it still looks like a machine and not a plastic toy.

That's the same engine access from the ladder to the lifting cover as the N series introduced in 1979. It might open nicer, which might be the only improvement. The big panel on the left is the only difference I see other than new decals from the S series

You can say what you want about Gleaner but at least they are still American made. Deere is increasingly sending more jobs to Mexico while increasing their corporate profits and the whole right to repair debacle.
They have hit the roadblock for their design I'm afraid, without going against the grain and coming up with something that won't be a Gleaner, they are pretty where they will be till AGCO drops them to further Idea combine sales. The pivot auger limits the machine to nothing wider than 40 foot, in the growing age of 45 and 50 foot headers, without making the combine too wide to go down the road they are limited on capacity, can't run a 16 row head feasibly. So much against the design for going larger than it is now, but being large isn't the point of a Gleaner to begin with.
@bigtractorpower Maybe that's another reason they moved to the "T", or to fit with the Ideal models. Hopefully not the later, because those things are the same old complex garbage imo.
1:30 Yes, the radiator door now is larger to give access to the batteries. 2:45 Now, we have a top to bottom left-hand access door. Now the mechanics will be able to pull the rotor in 10 minutes flat.
One problem with the Gleaner is the narrow, offset feederhouse. As the Browns experienced with their S97 it was harder to get the crop to flow into the machine.
. The feeding problem the Browns had was with the header they had. That was my understanding. I know it doesn't have those yellow racing wheels like another brand.
I think cleaner needs to increase its rotor size cleaning area and horsepower and develop a class 9 combine. Or they're going to become a relevant. One thing about Gleaner they seem to hold their percentage of their resale value as good as any combine brand out there. Also if they could do like the Lexion combine and have the ability to switch from crop to crop without leaving the cab. I think it's a little more work on a cleaner than most combines to switch from corn to beans to wheat.
@@Zero01k Well there you are constantly changing belts, pulleys, and bearings, so I'm not seeing where one pulley is a disaster, since you're always outside with a Claas anyways. "Engineers' dream, mechanic's nightmare" is a Claas summed up.

I´m trying to answer your Question but my English isn´t the best, so bear with me for a Moment (I`m from Germany). It´s a rotating Grid to keep out coarse Dirt in front of the Cooler. To keep the Grid from cloging up, in some Point of its rotation there is a suction Device. Every Manufacturer does it a little bit different but it works the same.
Rotating screen to keep chaff or straw from plugging up the radiator for the engine and overheating. All brands of combine have one but some manufacturers hide them behind body panels.
We are witnessing the epitome of Threshing. Efficient. Does the required job in a simple manner. Get on board those of you who appreciate Lazer Threshing.

@aarondeere but there is still belts and other crap that needs service under that panel and if the combine doesn't start you can't open the side panel cause the auger is blocking it
@Thegrim326 there is but if it can't be started those belts ain't going to be running. I just don't see the issue and there's space between the shields to inspect without having to open them.
If it doesn’t start, you need to open the back compartment to get to the engine to find out why it won’t start. Once you get it started you can open the side panel, but their is no reason to open the side panel until you can get it running.
No capacity increase? No bin increase? No unload rate increase? Did they add threshing automation? Did they offer a track option? Did they beef up or improve the final drive issues being seen on the internet? .....this is severely underwhelming.... 😢 #fail
Gleaner is on its 101st year. In 14 years of filming every brand of Combine I always remain impressed by the quality of grain and the least loss of grain from Gleaner. They do an excellent job harvesting. If I were farming, it’s the combine and I would buy.

Laugh all you want, but that auger has its advantages and the “natural flow” concept works. Turret augers can be a maintenance nightmare once they get some age on them, and they unload slow.
@m16ty We had a Claas 740. Over the course of 5 years, we put around 15000 acres of corn and 5000 acres of beans through it. The only problem we had with the auger is when we wore a hole in the tube after 4 years. Our new 7500 dumps at 5 bushels a second. From the research I've done the s97 dumps at 4

Same junk from gleaner every year. Wow they have panles that open all the way up, every other combine has had this for the last 30 years or better. Their days are numbered as AGCO is slowly killing off brands.
Gleaner has just never done it for me. After reading the comments, it amazes me the amount of loyal followers. I think they build a great machine, but I just can't get used to that styling.

Well technically everything they make is a small combine. Class 8 is not that big and bad.

Well at least AGCO is keeping the Gleaner name around for a little longer it appears. Surprisingly.
Gleaner has a 100 year history and is the companies best selling combine. I expect it is here to stay.

Not a huge fan of them, but it is nice that they're still making a light machine.

Was thinking same thing. The narrower it is u figured the more fatigue it would get. Large draper on this could be bad.
The Brown's say that their Fendt Ideal 9T is narrower than the gleaner but can handle half again more material and a ten foot wide bigger header

Their issue was with the header and the angle rather than getting the crop to fit into the feederhouse. Also, they have already plugged the Fendt.

You don't leave the cab to change crops in a Gleaner.
@J-1410 you have to change pulleys up front and one on the side switching between corn and small grain.

Most have them on top because tree branches can easily puncture the screen when going around the outside of the field.

Grain bin size is nice but it’s really about the cart and trucks that haul the grain away.

Easy maintenance my butt if you can't start it you can't open the auger to open the side panel
Nothing to grease behind that door. I've been running one for 6yrs now and no big deal with maintenance.

I like the improvements, but the graphics are ugly, bring back the last 10-year graphics.
