    This looks really great, I know this is an old video but I have never seen any other lego clock more compact than this!

    I tried to make one years ago, but had problems with the escapement. It seems the modern lego pieces make this much easier to do. Congrats!

    You made it sound like the real thing Nice work. And your presentation allows others to replicate your creation. Now you get it to move the 60 second shaft move a 3600 second shaft for the 60 minute of one hour. Again nice work

    Very cool, I remade this and added an hour hand by adding a corkscrew, 24 tooth, and 12 tooth gears to the minute hand. had trouble with the swinging thing (cant think of what its called at the moment) but was eventually able to get it working.

      Hello Jukka, I'm sorry but I don't have any time to make a tutorial at the moment, but if you have Lego Digital Designer you can see the design files at www.alexallmont.com/files/Mini%20LEGO%20Clock/. There is also an Excel file in there that details all the bricks you need. Good luck!

    I'm hoping to build this with my kids. Just ordered the parts and pieces from your list. Wish me luck! But I'm also wondering what you used for a weight?

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I recall correctly, I think I used a couple of LEGO technic wheels with a bit of BluTac hidden between them for extra weight! Good luck with the build :)

    Hey Alex made this for my step son for his school project...I cant get it to work...what weight should be best used? and silly I know but how do you tie the weight on the wheel?

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      glenn mactaggert It was pretty heavy, maybe 4-6 technic truck wheels. All the counterweight bricks at the back just about kept it sitting steady. The string is fiddly.. knot it well around one of the pulley's holes and then you need to wind the cotton around a few times so it lies in the groove enough. I hope you get it working, it was a real fiddle!

    Are clocks hard to build??? they sure look like they would be!

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Designing them takes ages because everything has to be tuned just right, lots of trial and error but it's addictive! Check out my tutorial on my vimeo channel: vimeo.com/36818280. Also search for 'lego clock escapement' on youtube, and you'll find lots of inspiring ideas

    Is this work exactly like the same clock?

  • @patrickfarrell1835
    @patrickfarrell1835 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is incredibly awesome. It seems to be a lot more accurate than most Lego clocks I have seen. What is the longest time it can run for?

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Patrick Farrell It's not that accurate really! It has a very loud tick-tock sound and you can see the handle moving very sharply which is an indication of energy lost in the system. Consequently this only runs for a few minutes. Over the hundreds of years of clock design improvements, more and more efficient clock escapements were designed. Examples are grasshopper escapement and gravity escapement, which are more difficult to build with something as blocky as LEGO. Here's a video by +KEvronista using an Arnfield escapement: th-cam.com/video/lxAVy--IoBA/w-d-xo.html. It runs for around 30 hours, amazing for LEGO!

    I built one and it works! But what did you use as pendulum?

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ThinkCleverAndSmart great stuff! I used some LEGO wheels because the rubber tyres are relatively heavy. If extra weight it needed I cheat with blu tack

    • @ThinkCleverAndSmart
      @ThinkCleverAndSmart 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Allmont Ok, I have to try thinner ones as they collide with the bigger weight connected to the string all the time! :)

    How did you make the co-axle hand with a differential?

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CodyLegodude in the differential there is a little stub that the central bevel gear sits on. You can use that stub and inner dimensions of the differential (2x2 brick units) to fit various bits in. This one uses two round 2x2 plates to surround a 32034 pin connector (www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=32034). The diff usage comes from Robert Munafo's designs mrob.com/pub/lego/orrery.html

    How heavy is the weight you used

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly I used 4 big wheels, but it wasn't quite enough, so I cheated and used blu tac as extra weight. The mechanism is not efficient, it needs a lot of weight and it wastes a lot of energy; you'll hear it thump quite loudly when the clock ticks!

    Where is the motor?

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeton Oyunlar there is a weight attached to the pulley. You reel in the weight and let it go so it falls under gravity. The motion turns the mechanism around

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one runs purely on gravity and I wind it up by hand but I use motors in my other clocks with a computer controller to rewind. Check out the vimeo link in my comment below for an example of my motorised ones :)

    • @sine35video

      Karol Urbański from memory it's 4 x 12 long axles with some wheels on the end. I think there might be some blu tack on there as weight too!

  • @stockerstudios592

      And its awesome :D

    • @sine35video
      @sine35video  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you :) It's not an accurate clock, it does tick roughy every second but the weight falls very quickly so it only runs for a few minutes - it's not very good for keeping time! The hands are just minutes and seconds.
