I don't understand how him editing out his mistakes is an issue? He still has to no damage from the checkpoint so it's not like he is actually trying to hide anything.
Fabiana could have jumped in the water and those 2 guys have to stop their boats to get her and or get the hell outta this killing monster max, while passes can jump in the water and save her while Max could have defended them.

From what i see, multiple times before control is even given to the player after a small cutscene, damage is already inflicted
