The songwriting, arranging, & production of Dave Stewart, partnered with *those* undeniable vocals from Annie, set the bar for quality in '80s pop music. Tremendous stuff. :)
Oh yeah her vocals definitely brilliant on ‘There Must Be An Angel’ with the special appearance of Stevie Wonder on the harmonica! My fav still is ‘It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back)’
No they're not, she sings it like a right idiot. Her histornic theatrics are not what I want in a song bare in mind the song is lyrically and musically dumb anyway, and his mouth organ don't help. Big deal. I've got harmonica and strings and other things on songs I'vr got by 80s acts unfairly far less feted than them two with much better results. One of the most overrated songs of the 80s. Lennox is most impressive singing their late 80s stuff-'Don't Ask Me Why', a song so rarely lovely by them, it almost brings ABBA's 'One Of Us' to mind. No stupid theatrics to ruin the song, no showing off, just letting a NORMAL vocal shine through, and THIS is what shows up the heartache and disconcolate nature of actually their most beautiful lyrical and musical moment. Pity that when it was gone, it was gone. But what a wondrful way for them to end the 80s. They actualyl began their career with a nice song no one bought and ended it on brilliance, it's too much of the stuff in the middle that's the problem. This 'Must Be An Angel' is not their worst, it's even okay-ish if you don't have to hear it much, but otherwise, it's as daft a thing as lesser acts produced back then.
A beautiful and memorable song. Annie and Dave were a phenomenal pairing. Instantly recognisable and loved music for me. Thank you for your brilliant reaction.
Annie Lenox is pure talent. I credit her as being one of the best vocalists off all time because he voice is sooooo unique and full of soul, The Eurythmics sounds and her own solo sound are distinctive and unmistakable.
I can't overstate the effect all these early eighties videos had on me, an early teen at the time. All of these cinematic videos made me want to travel the world. You literally imagined your life could be - should be - like one of these videos.
They are not, they're hugely overrated. At least 7 of their singles are wretched-about 5 of these being horrifically dreadful, though one has a good video if you just mute the awful thing. Please, the 80s was FULL of music, by many acts who have a much stronger single quality strike-rite, and other acts who are even stronger as they're album acts. We all know music isn't so much crap today as non-existent, but then music scene been dead ever since the 80s stopped, but it began going into decline when the twin horrors of slagdonna and S/A/W apeared, plus the acceptance of c/rap as a 'musical expression'. Eurythmics are weird in that they began their career with a pleasing song that no one bought or knew and ended the decade with their best song EVER. IN between though, the horrors began, though their late 80s singles are far less problematic than the earlier stuff.
Here comes the Eurythmics again! They put the “awe” in awe-rtist. Another great video pointing out the components that makes this such a compelling song and video.
Annie Lennox is pure talent. Don't forget react to Songs like Missionary Man, Whos that Girl, Don't ask me Why, Thorn in My side and would I lie yo you.
It's AMAZING what they do in every album!!! Annie evry time surprises with her voive, you'll go crazy when you listen "Would I lIe To You", "I Need A Man", "Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves", "You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart", "When Tomorrow Comes", "Right by Your Side"... She's freaking awsome, always...
I must say that I am vicariously living my obsession with Eurythmics from the 80's through you and other TH-cam reactionaries..Ahhh, the Power of Music. Thank You!♥️
Also suggested: There Must Be An Angel. (My other personal favorite is their reunion single 'I Saved The World Today' from 1999.) You must react to Annie's solo releases, too! (Why, Walking On Broken Glass, Little Bird, No More 'I Love You's, Dark Road etc.)
Definately one of my favourite Eurythmics songs. The intro is stunning...it creates such a dramatic feel. And the song carries this on. And the video is just beautiful.
My other faves of them are: There must be an angel, you have placed a chill in my heart, it’s alright baby’s coming back, when tomorrow come... the list is endless. They are my 80‘s heroes...

I am loving your reactions so much. You have taken me to my childhood with my uncles playing all of these songs all the time. You really are great at this. 👍🏼😀
Thank you so much doing this reaction. It’s my favorite Eurythmics song. If you like to see and hear the greatness of Annie Lennox you should watch her live performance at the Olympic ceremony of 2012 in London. The song was „little bird“. She was already 57 when she did it. It was phenomenal.
Love Eurythmics and Annie Lennox! When you react to Madonna's Sticky & Sweet tour you'll see a remix of Rain that includes a sample of Here Comes The Rain Again mixed in. It's an interlude/costume change but as you know by now, even the interludes of a Madonna tour are captivating to watch. I'm loving your channel! 🙂 ... just saw the end of your video where you mentioned the Rain remix... hope we see that reaction in the future.
Annie Lennox has/had such an amazing vocal range. One of Scotland's finest. I saw Eurythmics in Glasgow on their farewell tour and they were fantastic.
Epic early 80s track well ahead of its time. Annie Lennox was one of the few white female singers that the black music community truly rated back in the 80s, hence her duet with Aretha Franklin, not ANYONE gets to duet with Aretha lol.
From their "Touch" album, a brilliant single... Melodic, haunting, and synth pop perfection. Most of the tracks off Touch are dance driven, so much so they released an EP (extended play) dance remix of the tracks. "Right By Your Side" has a fun Calypso party celebration feel to it. And must see and hear Annie perform "I Need A Man" from their Savage album. Her character transforms from a bored housewife and takes on the persona of a drag queen on the rampage!
Randall A Yes, the ‘drag queen transformation’ in ‘I Need a Man’ is certainly quite something. Very memorable. As you are evidently familiar with the ‘Savage’ album, you will presumably already know that the exact moment of the ‘transformation’ comes in the video for the opening track to the album, namely ‘Beethoven (I love to listen to)’. Although I don’t think that this is explicitly mentioned anywhere, I’ve always inferred from the album and its accompanying videos that the name of the ‘drag queen’ persona assumed by Annie as part of the concept for the album is ‘Sylvia’ - which is also the title of one of the tracks on the ‘Savage’ album. Thanks for reminding me of something that I hadn’t thought about in years.
So much great 80's music came out of the UK, and for many of us it was the first time we were seeing different gender expressions which were not the cis straight norm here in the US. There were some great 80's US bands, check out The GoGos, Missing Persons, Berlin and The Bangles. Thinking about it, many of the big bands from the US in the 80s were all rock/heavy metal, most of the New Wave music was from Europe. Of no consequence, I had a work colleague (who had been in the band Berlin for a minute) who said he ran into Annie Lennox on the street in London, and without makeup, was one of he most beautiful women he had ever seen.
Not telling you what to react to but here comes the rain again live on their revenge tour 1987 is impressive and Dave Stewart sounds great on guitar and Clem Bourke sounds great on drums.
Find Annie Lennox and Hozier's Grammy performance...truly epic. For Eurythmics "Would I Lie to You" and for something more deep cut and weird "I Love to Listen To (Beethoven)". The video is all kinds of out there.
Her look here is so different from Sweet Dreams, you will be surprised. Yes! Her striking look is her natural beauty. Her look will change in every video.
Raining in the bedroom scene is an homage to tarkovskys movie Solaris. Hero Chris sees this through the window of his dad's house and realizes he was in a facsimile on the planet Solaris. Good stuff!
Great. You could also do Would I lie to you and Love is a stranger by Eurythmics. Also, great 80s track with another Scottish singer (Annie Lennox is Scottish like me) would be Vienna by Ultravox
Hello Dereck ! :) Like several before me, I think the best shot for next time is "There must be an angel (Playing with my heart)". One of their all-time classics ! And if you want to hear something different from them, more organic you would say, I highly suggest you "Would I lie to you ?" ! It's impossible you keep still on your chair while listening to it ! Really hope you will react to Annie's solo songs too ! "Why" is her most iconic song. Great great song ! And great video too ! You definitely have to react to it !
Beautiful reaction! I love seeing what gets a rise out of you when you hear something in a song that you love because it reminds me of what I love in music - SYNTHS and STRINGS. As many other subscribers have recommended, I really think you should do a reaction video for “Love Is a Stranger”. I’m really curious to see how your hand will react to that one, hahaha!
I remember loving this album when it came out. Then 'Would I Lie To You' was released and it was such a different direction for the band. Still that Eurythmics sound, but with more of a rock vibe. You need to check that out sometime. Also, consider "I Need A Man."
Love love love Annie Lennox. Listen to Miracle of love or When tomorrow comes. Look up her with Aretha Franklin Sisters are doing it for themselves. I saw Eurythmics live back in mid 80s n John Farnham as opening act before they performed. Absolutely amazing. Enjoy n stay safe.
And for something different "Beethoven (I Love to Listen to)" / "I Need a Man. Along with "You Have Placed a Chill in my Heart" and "Shame" all from their album "Savage." They sounded ahead of their time because they were from the future!
Hey Dereck-one of the more underrated songs from The Eurythmics is: "Who's That Girl?" It is one of my most favorite songs in their collection. I would love for you to react to that song. BTW, kudos to you for ALWAYS getting every little nuisance to all songs and appreciating them. There are not too many reactors with your insight.
This is my college years!! If you really like Annies voice and Daves guitar, try their previous band, the Tourists....they did a cover of Dusty Springfields "I only want to be with you"
This is one of my favorite Eurythmics songs. May I suggest LOVE AN ADVENTURE by Pseudo Echo. A dance song with so much going on, you'll go cross eyed. Synths, huge strings, sound effects and a trumpet solo.
Please react to some Cyndi Lauper! So many great songs and performances like: I’m gonna be strong, At Last, Rocking Chair, I drove all night, Shine, All through the night, True Colours, Sally’s Pigeons, Hat full of stars, The world is stone, Into the Nightlife, Hot gets a little cold, Fearless. Would be so great! 🌈
I hope you can check out the music production in the Eurythmics' song This Is The House. It starts in Spanish, but soon she is translating in English. On the song No Hurt No Pain, she shows off vocally. You might prefer the video that shows Annie in an Eggplant colored outfit. It's live, so it's not Annie doing the background vocals, but its just as great. The director screws up at the end, when the camera should be on her for the big vocal, but its still far better than staring at an album cover.
I think that "Touch" was the Eurythmics' most assured album...only 9 tracks, but 4 or 5 absolute killers. "Paint A Rumour" probably my favourite, after this one. I've never really picked up on the "doo-wop" vocals in 37 years: I knew they were there, obviously, but didn't think of them like that. I'm not a trained musician (unless you count Grade 3 piano, and being a chorister as a kid), but I think that the reason that the "doo-wops" don't come across as such, is that they are laid over a minor key signature..?
I enjoyed your reaction to a wonderful song. Also, Annie's solo performance of "Into the West" is stunning. It won an Oscar (from "The Lord of The Rings" movies).
The songwriting, arranging, & production of Dave Stewart, partnered with *those* undeniable vocals from Annie, set the bar for quality in '80s pop music. Tremendous stuff. :)
'Eurythmics - There Must Be An Angel' - arguably is the most impressive vocals from Annie Lennox and is an absolute classic tune.
Oh yeah her vocals definitely brilliant on ‘There Must Be An Angel’ with the special appearance of Stevie Wonder on the harmonica! My fav still is ‘It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back)’
One of my favorites, but I've never seen it requested from reactors (until now), for some reason.
Fun fact: Stevie Wonder played harmonica on the track.
i'm waiting his review so much.
This is an absolutely amazing song.
And of course she's vocally skillful, she's classically trained :D
I get chills every time I listen to this song. The strings and synthetizers are just perfect! Love you and your reaction, Dereck.
A beautiful and memorable song. Annie and Dave were a phenomenal pairing. Instantly recognisable and loved music for me. Thank you for your brilliant reaction.
Can you believe a song this deep and this unique made it to the top ten? The 80's was full of great music that actually sold really well
Annie Lenox is pure talent. I credit her as being one of the best vocalists off all time because he voice is sooooo unique and full of soul, The Eurythmics sounds and her own solo sound are distinctive and unmistakable.
Eurythmics- You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart is them in their greatest video era off their greatest album imo.
I can't overstate the effect all these early eighties videos had on me, an early teen at the time. All of these cinematic videos made me want to travel the world. You literally imagined your life could be - should be - like one of these videos.
It's funny that you would say that ! Remember Duran Duran's "Save a Prayer" video? For some reason I felt the need to visit Sri Lanka at the time!
Annie Lennox Why, is a song you need to hear.
walking on broken glass and LITTLE Byrd as well ✌️♥️
Totally 👍
YES to "Why"!!!! (solo Annie Lennox)
Tell me!
Eurythmics is just one of the best groups ever in musical history. This is music people. So much better than musical crap of nowadays!!!
They are not, they're hugely overrated. At least 7 of their singles are wretched-about 5 of these being horrifically dreadful, though one has a good video if you just mute the awful thing. She is one of the godesses of music hands down.
Lyrically, one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Its a synthpop masterpiece.Annie and Dave are true artist & pioners.Love!
My favorite Eurythmics song is "Love Is a Stranger". If you like something more upbeat check that one out.
"Love Is a Stranger" is also my FAV by them!
Second that, definitely deserving of a reaction!
Def do love is a stranger , great video as well
Annie Lennox is pure talent. Don't forget react to Songs like Missionary Man, Whos that Girl, Don't ask me Why, Thorn in My side and would I lie yo you.
Who's That Girl is also a classic video.
All fantastic songs!!!
Not WAS. Is

Jan 12th, my BD. I was 13 when this came out. Always loved it. My fav from them.
It was my 17th, the middle of possibly the best year of my life
1983 was an awesome year in music!
Dave Stewart is a arrangement genius....
Derek, I LOVE your videos and commentary! I am impressed that you love the 80's!!
Annie Lennox has/had such an amazing vocal range. One of Scotland's finest. I saw Eurythmics in Glasgow on their farewell tour and they were fantastic.
So amazing on the vibes!!! Synth and that voice!!!

Check out the video that leads right into the beginning of "I Need a Man" called "I Love to Listen to Beethoven."
@@wushujimmy4112I actually own the Savage DVD so I've already heard & seem it thanks
I love this song. Voice and lyrics are so haunting and beautiful

Annie's 🎵
MONEY CANT BUY IT
is a great song
This was the first music i owned. I got the tape and a boombox for Christmas.
I've always loved this song and official music video. Just love The Eurythmics!
now you got to look into Eurythmics - "Would I Lie To You?" - totally different sound....
...they could rip it up, too!
Not telling you what to react to but here comes the rain again live on their revenge tour 1987 is impressive and Dave Stewart sounds great on guitar and Clem Bourke sounds great on drums.
My favourites by Eurythmics are You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart, It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back) and (I Love To Listen To) Beethoven.
Madonna had a Intro Backdrop Video at her Sticky & Sweet Tour which had mixed "Here Comes The Rain Again" and her Song "Rain".
Please do Eurythmics 'Love is a Stranger'! I think you''ll love that one... it has an amazing pace rythem to it.
Psychodelic, trance, mysterious best describes this song a synth masterpiece.1983.
Find Annie Lennox and Hozier's Grammy performance...truly epic. For Eurythmics "Would I Lie to You" and for something more deep cut and weird "I Love to Listen To (Beethoven)". The video is all kinds of out there.
Dave understood that less is more! An excellent co- writer and producer.
She is one of the greats singers of the last 5 decades.
It's raining here in New Zealand 🌨️☔ but I'm enjoying your videos 😁

One of my fav songs - well done 👍
Love is a stranger amazing
It's SO much my youth! Thanks! ;)
I love the synths too!
Such a classic song ❤️

What i love about your reactions is you actually analyze the song and hear the details :)
Pop-synth masterpiece!!!!!
Eurythmics, the best band during times in my opinion. React to "Theres must be an angel" please :-)
Next you should look at Eurythmics "Beethoven (I love to listen to)" and it's follow up video "I need a man".
Mr. D; You must give “Would I Lie to You” a whirl. Truly great (official video).
Video was made in the Orkney islands
This is my college years!! If you really like Annies voice and Daves guitar, try their previous band, the Tourists....they did a cover of Dusty Springfields "I only want to be with you"
Eurithimics stood alone with there sound. Remember this was the end of the punk age... They killed it.
This is one of my favorite Eurythmics songs. May I suggest LOVE AN ADVENTURE by Pseudo Echo. A dance song with so much going on, you'll go cross eyed. Synths, huge strings, sound effects and a trumpet solo.
Still mesmerizing.
Love Is A Stranger is another unique song

Talk about synths- don’t miss Love Is A Stranger on the Sweet Dreams album.
Their best song
Omg yes, used to play that one over and over.....
You should react to Walking on Broken Glass by Annie Lennox - you might even recognize some actors in the music video ;)
Annie was a very independent woman. Strong women were always my weakness. She had me from the first time I saw her walk onto a stage.
I think that "Touch" was the Eurythmics' most assured album...only 9 tracks, but 4 or 5 absolute killers. "Paint A Rumour" probably my favourite, after this one.
