You mean it was as brushed off as how the blacks brushed off Jacaerys death? Only Rheanyra cared and she only cared for her image and a little for Halaena. The rest mentioned do word of it. Daemon even smiled. Atleast Aemond has regret, Alicent knows what he did was wrong and was worried for his state of mind, Otto was the main one to brush it off as youthful angst.
I'm not sure where your confusion over what Daemon said comes from. The exact line was "'a son for a son,' HE SAID." Blood is directly quoting Daemon here and says that he's quoting him. I think we don't see Daemon say it directly as a callback to the "heir for a day" line and to preserve some amount of ambiguity as to HOW he said it, but we're not supposed to question IF he said it. He's a piece of shit who murdered his first wife so it's absolutely not beneath him. I also disagree that Aegon ever had potential to be a good king. Robert Baratheon is a good example of how a bad king is made out of someone who never wishes to do the hard parts of governing. Aegon didn't thoughtfully weigh the pros and cons of the situations brought to him and make a conscious decision to take a slightly more pro-smallfolk stance. He just wanted to do whatever would get him gratitude and admiration from the person in front of him, regardless of whether it was the right thing to do. He's also a rapist who was okay with his children (so long as they're bastards) being tortured and killed in pit fighting so nothing's beneath him either. Lastly- Aemond is absolutely at fault for Luc's death. No ambiguity there. He did the equivalent of firing a gun at his nephew with his eyes closed... he doesn't get to pretend he didn't mean to kill him, even if he does feel bad afterward in this version.
"Viserys put so much time into that thing" yeah and neglecting his 3 children that he forced into Alicent, that lego set being destroyed was one of the best things in this episode! He spent more time with that toy than talking to his children, Aegon should have burned that the second he became king 🤣 Tom Glynn-Carney nailed this episode
Viserys 100% loved that model more than he loved Aegon and Aegon knows it. But it is also symbolic as he is destroying Valyria aka the source of his own legitimacy
Meh. Viserys spent time with his kids- throwing a hunt for Aegon's 2nd birthday, observing the sword-training of his sons and grandsons, and being one of the few who actually listened to Helaena's rambling when she was younger (albeit he was confused by them) He was sick and it's implied being over-medicated by Otto and Alicent specifically so that he'd be unable to sit the throne so I'm not sure how much of that we can actually pin on him.
@@vadalia3860 Viserys completely neglected them and minded them as their “king”, not their father. He doted on a baby Aegon because he wanted a son for a long time, then he decided he didn’t care anymore, and chose to devote all his time to his model and to Rhaenyra. He cared far more about Rhaenyra and her children than his own by Alicent. This is a known fact. Yes, he was ill, but he literally goes as far as to refer to Rhaenyra as his “only child” and does everything to defend her and her kids, even at his weakest. It tells you everything you need to know and more about how he treated his other children.
Your not wrong about him neglecting his kids by Alicent, I think it's more stemming from his guilt over Aemma's death that he isn't as close to Alicent's kids and is closer to Rhaenyra. It's all super complicated for sure, almost all these characters are very grey. Rhaenyra had a loving mother in Aemma so even if Viserys was occupied by his need to have a son that she felt overlooked her mother was there to comfort her until she wasn't of course. Alicent isn't a very loving mother, she doesn't know how comfort her own kids in fact she seemed emotionally distant from them and so the kids grew up thinking neither parent really loved them. If she had been a loving affectionate person towards her kids that may have change things perhaps for them, they would have felt they were loved at least by one parent.
here's my 2 cents re:Daemon. we hear the phrase "a son for a son" 2 times. the first time it's in ep.1 when he asks Raenys to go with him to kill Aemond and Vaghar. the second is from Blood & Cheese. it is clear to me that Daemon told them the phrase when he instructed them. we didn't hear him say it, which means that there was more to that conversation that we didn't hear. Raenys remembered the phrase, put 2 and 2 together and immediately knew that Daemon was behind the attack. so far so good. now, what did Daemon mean when he said "a son for a son"? did he mean just Aemond? did he also mean Aegon? did he mean ANY son? based on how smug Daemon is afterwards, I can only conclude that he either 1. wanted things to turn out as they did or 2. didn't much care who died as long as blood was spilled (not unlike Aegon when he killed all of the ratcatchers). now, why did he insist it was a "mistake"? maybe he realised that he had messed up. or maybe he didn't want to reveal his hand and tried to manipulate Rhaenyra. in any case, I don't believe him. Rhaenyra is right to never trust him fully. Daemon remains my favourite character - we love to mistrust him ^^ Omn1 was right to say that we can never hate Matt Smith as Daemon
Aegon and Daemon arent the same in that regard. Aegon *knew* he would be killing his child's murderer. Daemon was well okay with Aemond still living as long as some child on the greens was dead.
@@rexibhazoboa7097 of course they not the same. One was calculated murder, while the other was reactionary and unplanned. Aegon didn't have to kill all the ratcatchers. He just had to contain his anger long enough to properly question Blood and learn which ratcatcher exactly helped him. That would have been the right way to go. Just as Daemon had to instruct them to only kill Aemond. Neither did what would have been deserved, they both prioritised spilling blood to spilling (just) the right blood. You see my point?
5:33 I'm sorry, when did Rhaenyra demand Aemond's head? How did she instigate this? She said, "I want Aemond Targaryen" just after she'd returned from finding whatever remained of her son when she was grieving. She didn't even say she wanted him dead and even if she did, it doesn't make her in any way responsible for the death of Jaehaerys. What Daemon did is entirely on him. Like Rhaenyra says, "I think you used my words as an excuse, to take your own revenge."
Jahaerys is dead because of Rheanyra's faction. Daemon acted in her name. She personally might not be one to blame but the faction that she leads committed the crime and leaders take on all their subjects wins and fails. Plus, having someone like Daemon on your council comes with risks you have to accept.
Notice how Alicent makes everything about herself in this episode. She’s ok with Helaena being a part of the funeral but when Otto says she has the be there as well she said she doesn’t want to be a spectacle. Also bringing up her affair to her clearly grieving and agitated daughter after telling her the baby’s body is going to be paraded around as some sort of PR move.
totally understand why she did that. but i dont get why she would not factor in Helaena in the whole spectacle talk with Otto. She was clearly distraught about her daughter. Felt natural that she would say "No, Halaena and I do not wish to be a spectacle, certainly Halaena"
The difference is that was a freak accident. Resulting from the two losing control of their dragons. But Jaehaerys, a toddler practically, was brutally killed and his body was desecrated.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl It wasn't an accident. Aemond chased a middle-schooler to terrorize him with a flying WMD he knows he can't completely control. It was murder.
@vadalia3860 Not entirely true. I don't think Aemond meant to kill Luke because after Arrax shot at Vhaegar, Aemond started panicking because he knew what that meant. And tried to command Vhaegar to stop, but unfortunately she wouldn't heed him. After she munched on them, Aemond had a look of pure horror on his face. Did he want to scare Luke? Absolutely. But I think he didn't mean for things to get out of control.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl If you fire a gun into a crowd, even if you don't mean to hit anyone, you're still responsible if you end up killing someone through your irresponsible actions.

Some of the best episodes in this franchise are those, that deal with the fallout of a disaster like this. Emotions boiling over, rash decisions, blame, political manouvering and so on. This is one of the best, if not, the best.
Rhaenyra never said she wanted Aemonds head, she just said I want Aemond Targaryen. Daemon is the one who heard her words and just ran with his own plan. Rhaenyra could have meant so many things by what she said, she could want his head, she could want him as just a prisoner or a prisoner so she could tourture him maybe to death. If Daemon would have waited let her grieve so more then ask questions on how she wanted that done.
The sentence Blood said was not a son for a son, but "a son for a son, He SAID". That is very clear. The king was not available, so only the boy remained. Kristen is the boss of all the guards. He has assigned the guards himself, so that he can go to Alisant unnoticed.
A son for a son. Meaning Aemond. It wasn’t “a grandson for a son”... The showrunner said Daemon didn’t order the child’s death. He only asked for Aemond. 🩸🧀 chose the boy out of desperation realizing they would be wholly unable to find Aemond before they were found out. Blood thought it would be a quick in and out. Cheese didn’t want to go upstairs bc he knew he didn’t know how to find/kill Aemond.
And before you say “well the book says..” I have and read the book. Which is a BIASED HISTORY book written by people that weren’t there and went by word of mouth to tell what they think happened. Like the Bible. The Bible has many versions of the same stories and they are 100% not what happened word for word. Fire and Blood is just an assumed history. The show is what really happened. If you take issue with it, take it up with GRRM. Bc he said the events in the show are what happened. And that Daemon is many things, but he doesn’t lie to Rhaenyra. 🤷🏼♀️
@@Persephone_Personified You tell half stories and then not even in the right way. First, a son for a son does include the boy, because he also has a mother. He is Helena's son and therefore a son of the Hightower family. Second, yes, Deamon gave not the direct order the murder of the boy. "A son for a son, he said". That was the alternative. And the alternative includes all available sons. Amond couldn't be found, so Aegon and the boy remain. Aegon was also unreachable and probably no one would have dared, so only the boy remained. So yes, Deamon gave the instruction as an alternative and he was well aware of who it could hit. Deamon is not stupid and does not say so directly. He didn't mourn much at the table either, he actually had a grin. For him, it is not the optimal solution, but it is a solution, because he wants war. Third, the showrunner never said that Deamon didn't give that order. This is simply a lie that you make up to convince less informed people of your argumentation, which is simply poorly thought out. He only said they wanted to leave it open for interpretation. That's what he said. However, I think that if you take into account everything that was actually shown and said, the logical conclusion is that Deamon did not want the death of the boy optimally, he wanted Aemond, but secondarily he can very well work with the deaths of either Aegon or the boy. The main thing is a son for a son, and not for his wife, but to finally be able to start the war with his wife. That she can concentrate on the things that are important to him. For example, finally kill Reagar, which he wanted to do at the beginning.
Ok. Yes, the scene was cut when Daemon was asked, so what if we don’t find him, but the FIRST WORDS out of Blood’s mouth when they found the kids were what? “A son for a son”. Daemon is totally responsible. And the other thing, there were really much more surgical ways Daemon could have done this. Why not poison Aemonds food or drink. Daemon was his typical dramatic messy self.
IMO, Daemon told Rhaenys 'A Son For A Son" in the very beginning when he wanted her to ride out again with him to kill Ameond and Vhagar. Then Blood told Cheese "He said a Son For A Son" Blood didn't hear him say that to Rhaenys so he had to have repeated that to Blood. Whether Daemon did it while walking in with Blood alone to Cheese or once Cheese asked the question. But I think it was the response to Cheese's question because Blood said it to Cheese as if you heard what he said and not like I am telling you something you never heard before. Daemon is crazy guilty. The other way to know this is because he was completely silent sitting at that table in the war room. When has Daemon ever been quiet in that room at that table?
Daemon is many things. But a liar is not one of them. He never lied to Rhaenyra The showrunner stated Daemon did not tell them to end the child. That decision was made by Blood and Cheese due to knowing they would not find Aemond and they acted in haste to try to get in and out as soon as possible. Blood didn’t even know who the queen or the children were. He said it in a recent interview
The show runner said he left it to interpretation. He lies all the time. In the books he says it. He's not willing to fess up because it caused Rhaenyra harm.
I mean it was the correct move in such times it’s best for a king/queen to present themselves as approachable and to do that you have to put all the horror and grief of that night on full display
@@ottovonbismarck7742 considering the king and queen were both against it probably not. Also doesn’t really have anything to do with my point about Alicent
Not knowing what Daemon said to Blood and Cheese parallels perfectly with how they cut away from his "heir for a day" toast in the very first episode of season 1. What you see is Viserys sending Daemon away in a rage because Viserys assumes the worst interpretation. Rhaenyra does the exact same thing. And we the audience don't know whether they're right or not.
Obviously I don't support Aegon's decisions, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing him being reckless and ruining Otto and Alicent's plans Like "YOU put him in this position, YOU gave him this power when it was OBVIOUSLY going to go wrong, this is just a pure consequence of his actions, deal with it"

When one of them can't come up with an argument or is about to say something they know they'll regret, they walk out instead. And now Daemon's gonna come up with some grand gesture, when what Rhaenyra needed was for him to own up to what he did...but the Riverlands are cool too I guess.

There's zero confusion around the Daemon thing
"Viserys put so much time into that thing" yeah and neglecting his 3 children that he forced into Alicent, that lego set being destroyed was one of the best things in this episode! He spent more time with that toy than talking to his children, Aegon should have burned that the second he became king 🤣 Tom Glynn-Carney nailed this episode
deserved mistreatment tbh.. they shouldn't have been born in the first place for all i care
I don't like how they glossed over Luke's murder and Aemond being a kinslayer
@@vadalia3860Nope. Vhagar acted on her own, and Arrax was a fool for attacking her.
It was a Dragon on Dragon killing, not a Dragonrider killing.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirl If you fire a gun into a crowd, even if you don't mean to hit anyone, you're still responsible if you end up killing someone through your irresponsible actions.
The King cries and The Hand gets wet.
LMFAO your reactions in this one are just golden 🤣
Even tho I literally just watched the whole episode, I just love following up by watching your reviews! It helps getting a recap on stuff I miss and I always find myself laughing at your reactions. Keep it up Omni!
09:49 well aemond is not a child
I mean comon, it's daemon, of course he meant it as anyone else. Son for a son.yiu can clearly see the smirk. Lol
The saddest thing in the episode is Aegon destroying his dads mega Lego build.
rip Mega Lego set.
😢
seriously!!! that thing took him ages.... poor man even gets fucked over in the afterlife...
He never lied to Rhaenyra
The showrunner stated Daemon did not tell them to end the child.
Alicent: look what they did to my girl!
Also Alicent: Haelena we are using your grief to get some brownie points with the people, suck it up
I mean it was the correct move in such times it’s best for a king/queen to present themselves as approachable and to do that you have to put all the horror and grief of that night on full display
So you guys think there wouldn't be a public funeral for heir to the Iron Throne if otto didn't suggest?
@@ottovonbismarck7742 considering the king and queen were both against it probably not. Also doesn’t really have anything to do with my point about Alicent
Not knowing what Daemon said to Blood and Cheese parallels perfectly with how they cut away from his "heir for a day" toast in the very first episode of season 1. What you see is Viserys sending Daemon away in a rage because Viserys assumes the worst interpretation. Rhaenyra does the exact same thing. And we the audience don't know whether they're right or not.
He said both, actually.
Omg thank you for the laughs at the end of the episode. Well there's the hand of the King. 😂😂

New respect for Otto
I always thought "to fall on one's own sword" was a euphemism, turns out I was very wrong
Obviously I don't support Aegon's decisions, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing him being reckless and ruining Otto and Alicent's plans
Like "YOU put him in this position, YOU gave him this power when it was OBVIOUSLY going to go wrong, this is just a pure consequence of his actions, deal with it"
Without the green nothing would be exciting and fun, let's be honest here

Its weird watching a GoT show from a book reader's perspective, for a change. 😊
I appreciate that Larys manipulates everybody... by using the TRUTH. There's somethin' more impressive about that than if he was lying to (it's also why I really like Angelus in the Buffyverse, no need for lies when the truth can often do much more damage). I mean, I hate him... but its more compelling this way 😂
you feel bad for otto? cause...this is kinda all his fault lol
Yep but this is where he realizes he was wrong
@@immortal5626 that doesn't mean i feel bad for him. he wanted aegon on the throne, and he got it. he knew exactly who aegon was before he became king. and he still did it. so...can't feel bad for an intelligent man reaping the consequences of his own actions
loved when aegon destroyed viserys lego set.
Man viserys put so much time into that model 😢
Much more time than he did for his children by Alicent, that’s for sure… Man this family’s so messed up in so many ways lol
i see it as a metaphor, viserys did everything to keep the reign peaceful and the dance of the dragons destroyed it just like that
instead of into raising his children
Is this what fans mean when they say Daemon and Rhaenyra are their parents? When one of them can't come up with an argument or is about to say something they know they'll regret, they walk out instead. And now Daemon's gonna come up with some grand gesture, when what Rhaenyra needed was for him to own up to what he did...but the Riverlands are cool too I guess.
Aegon and Cole are my favorite characters in this show I love them so much
20:29 GAGGED
I believe Daemon's a son for a son was more intended for Aegon.
Nope.
Daemon knew he couldn't get to the king. Just like Otto knew Cole's man couldn't kill Rhaenyra. Actually Aegon was more protected than Rhaenyra.
I really wish they the writers would stop stripping away all of rhaenerya flaws. So far is season 2 she seems like a saint, completely different from season 1
