Incredible rainbow with lightning!

- During a rain shower on Aug. 27, 2014, the Sun peeked out of the clouds to the west, creating a magnificent double rainbow. Then suddenly a lightning bolt shot across the frame at at 0:50! I thought for a second it might just be light reflected off the raindrops... until the bolt of thunder a few seconds later.

Quite a few times I had people tell me "Why do you have to explain everything and can't enjoy how [x] in nature looks?". People like that, although not all of them, also tend to be "wifi/mobile radioation sensititve" and/or peddle astrology and homeopathy. They also tend to get upset when "there ought to be a rainbow", but I explain to them that they won't be able to see one around noon, no matter how much rain and sun there is at the same time.
When I look at a rainbow I still see beautiful colors, the same they do (or maybe they don't see same, but let's not go into that ;) ), but knowing how everything works and why it happens makes it even more amazing.
That is the most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen on camera! We don’t get rainbows that often in California, so the only way to see one is by using a garden hose.

Just a few hours ago i saw a picture (ani gif) linked on reddit, someone was filming a double rainbow just like this, and lightning struck right off his property. Big cloud of dust, then he dropped the camera. Awesome shot though!

That's a double rainbow not the simple rainbow and the lightning is also there while the dark clouds
You can emulate a rainbow indoors but you need a mirror.

i get you think you know whats going on although our eyes can't see much of the visible spectrum of what you perceive as light, science will always be incomplete as we are flawed.

Very nice! I don't agree with the theory of reflection in every drop separately though. Then the sky would look like a colorful confetti feast, not with these bow shapes.
For a moment you can see there's another smaller group of color waves inside the actual rainbow (and that's what makes the purple in the rainbow)
Not bad, but I still prefer our triple rainbow from last month. It had two beautifully visible arches and even faintest third one was a little clearer than the second arch in your video, and the entire thing was completely symmetrical to boot.
These kinds of things are what usually prompt me to stop for a moment and imagine just how stumped and/or scared I would be of such simple phenomena if I lived just a few hundred years ago when we had no idea how they worked. Science is awesome.
