Thailand’s annual Songkran water festival kicks off with a splash in Bangkok

- Thai locals and foreign tourists were splashed and sprayed with water in the streets of Bangkok on Friday for the annual Songkran festival, a celebration to ring in the Thai New Year.
From water guns to balloons to buckets, attendees use whatever is available at their disposal to soak friends, family members and random passersby. A symbol of purification and a new beginning, it also marks the beginning of Thailand’s rainy spring season.
“Normally, this month is very hot, but when we have the Songkran festival, it’s really refreshing and relaxed,” said Songkran participant Pittsanupat, who was also selling water and accessories to festivalgoers.
The five-day festival was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in December 2023.

@@kickkapu7621 and south asia like India and sri lankan. In case you didn't know these festivals originated in india, Songkran comes from the word sankranti and in south asia it's also known by different names like bihu, bizu, sangrai,Vaisakhi etc.

Water battleground take place at almost everywhere in Bangkok. The smiley warriors from around the world carry weapons to kill the heat from the air. No sound from guns and missiles but from laughting.
