Teaching can be very rewarding , but it can ruin your own diving unless your very careful to schedule in time for your '' own '' dives. Not every dive is a teaching dive , but its very rare I dont get out of the water after a dive and haven't learned something new.

Yes Tom, you are so right! When you become a Diving Instructor make sure you find the time to keep fun diving yourself!
I remember working for a year without doing that and when I did my own fun dive again it was soooo amazing.
Then again I also love taking care of people while I am diving... so I guess I like both :)
      Have a great day buddy!

I leaned that pretty fast. My last 30 dives where Courses and I finally got time to do a dive with a good friend. I just started diving doubles and never got to test how long I can go with them. Finally I found out I can go over 2hours and up :D I make sure I find time to Dive private without courses,

Hi Marcel, great video....I just completed my Divemaster in Roatan and am considering doing my IDC/MSDT. I am about to retire in my 'real job' and would like to spend my retirement (or what ever that looks like) Scuba diving and introducing others to this great world under the sea. I am 58 years old.....my question to you is, I often see many young folks doing thier IDC as thier initial career, is there room in the industry for an 'old guy' to work in this industry? I have often seen many young folks with great diving skills but very lacking in other areas....ie dedication, helping eachother in the dive shop vs individualism, adjusting thier teaching techniques to thier students vs regergitating the manuals etc....I was amazed at the lack of help for others when i did my DM. The instructors didnt help eachother get prepared for the dives (gearsetup, tanks etc), they only focused on thier divers...I would go in and get my dives prepared, then help others to get thier stuff in order., I was the only person to help everyone (yes i am Canadian:))..is this normal operations? ps i dont know how many times i asked questions regarding the shop operations and many times i recieved the response 'I dont know'...so I had to figure it out myself....I found this quite wierd as I has spent 3 months doing my DM and many of the instructors were there for years....must be a generational thing...lol

Hey. Great comment. I hope you are doing well. How did your IDC went? Are you working already? I'm going to do DM in January next year and IDC after that probably. Wonder how it all went for you. Too bad Marcel didn't respond to your message (he promised to answer them all). I guess what you are describing is going on on Koh Tao too 😂😂

Don't kid yourself, your monthly paycheck will be very small and tips 😂😂😂😂 Eighty percent of the money will go to the shop owner! Just look at the instructor's gear...most of it is threadbare 😂😂😂
