Arcane Season 1, Episode 9! This episode was intense from beginning to end! There was so much hope, and of course it was dashed by the end. So worried about what season 2 will bring! Not sure who (if any) survived that explosion, but I'm fairly certain its gonna mean war no matter what😔
Thank you again for watching, and see you in season 2! Any low volume is because of strict copyright! Please like and subscribe for more! Full episodes of Arcane are currently streaming on Netflix.

Ref Sevika and Silco: "I wonder what he did to gain so much loyalty from her". She's primarily loyal to "the cause", as soon as someone fails it, she dumps them, like she did to Vander. Silco was getting perilously close to losing her - she sees Jinx distracting him. "Were you tempted?" "Not for a worm like him, but he won't be the last". That's not a no - it's a warning to him.

You're completely right : Jinx can't be Powder anymore. The people she killed, the trauma she had, her insecurities, all those things can't disappear. Jinx also doesn't want to be Powder any more because she became what she wanted : she's strong, nobody bullies her (except Sevika but it's obvious Jinx could kill her if she wanted) and her gadgets work. She sees Powder as weak, as a failure.
Jinx and Silco are such an interesting duo : their relationship is completely bonkers but it works because they are broken people. Silco is the dad Jinx always wanted : someone who would always protect her, someone who would never let her down and someone who would love her whatever she did. Silco refusing Jayce offer is a death sentence : either Sevika or the chembarons would kill him. But he doesn't care, the only think that truly counts for him is Jinx. That's the meaning behind his monologue at Vander's statue : he finally understands why Vander gave up his dream. Like Vander, Silco has someone in his life that's more important than what he fought for all his life and he's making the same choice Vander did. "It all makes sense now, brother".

Silco tries to shoot vi because she is hurting her. She means well, but the names she's yelling are good memories for Vi but for jinx they are her demons.
You can see a new demon appear each time she says a name. Jinx even says stop. Silco tells jinx not to listen to her.
At the statue he says is there anything so undoing as a daughter. Loving jinx has undone all his dreams of Zaun.

Daughters were Vanders undoing. Jinx was Silco's. Perhaps Mel would have been Ambessa's undoing if she hadn't sent her away. Little Ren was part of Marcus's.

All the hard, dirty, and dangerous work like mining and heavy industry that make Piltover's prosperity possible are done in Zaun. Independence means that now they have to trade with Zaun at market rates instead of just having the work done at cut rates in Zaun.

    • @Hohum37
      @Hohum37 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

Or, the Chembarons set the wages, and were making bank by not paying their workers well. We simply don't know.
Also, on the face of it, independence for Zaun is great, right? Because self determination is a good thing.
With Silco in charge? The guy who was already de-facto in charge, and flooded the place with shimmer, a violence inducing addictive drug which causes deformities - he treats his own people like dirt. I'm pretty sure he despises the weak, and basically wants "A seat at the table" for himself. "You had respect, but that was never enough for you."

The irony in that Silco finally understood why Vander decided to betray him. Silco was offered the one thing he wanted above all else, but at the price of the only thing he truly loved.

Thank you so much for your reactions to Arcane, C. I am also greatly enjoying your journey through Naruto as well. As for why the council was so upset about losing the Undercity to independence is because they rely on the citizens down their for cheap, hard labor. Mostly in the mines, where it is incredibly hazardous. Without Zaun being a part of Piltover, they would no longer have direct say over how little pay miners could be given for their work, and ultimately it would likely dig into their overflowing pocketbooks. But I definitely look forward to watching Season 2 with you when it comes out. And huge congrats on being so close to 2k subscribers!

Not to mention that they're using the whole of Zaun as a refuse heap, just throwing down all the dangerous industrial runoff. Can't really do that if everybody has equal rights.

If you remember, Synged told Viktor that the variant of shimmer he gave him, would help him survive the "violent transition". Sky didn't have any of the shimmer that Viktor had, so she was not protected from the hex core.

'Why her and not Viktor?' So when Viktor attempted the experiment the second time he did not use Shimmer like he did the first time as the vial was empty. When Sky ran in and embraced Viktor she acted as the catalyst that Shimmer was in his first transformation.

Why do they need the Undercity? Keep labor that can be exploited for greater profits. They are the ones that work the mines which is the lifeblood of the economy of the topside. Without that cheap labor their financial standing amongst the other elite nation falters greatly. It is pretty much slave labor in their eyes.

I am happy you stated that Silco accepted her for who she was fully. In episode I believe 5 Silco says to Jinx, 'You have to let Powder die. Jinx is perfect.' In the final episode Silco states, 'You are perfect,' as he understands she has now fully embraced Jinx.

Why does the council need the undercity? Well, I don't know about the rest of the council, but Caitlyn's mom owns a mining company that mines Hexite crystals from nearby Shurima (that's where Jayce gets the raw materials for his Hextech projects). She probably mines the fissures in Zaun too, usually with cheap Zaun labor. She probably would want to at least renegotiate contracts/rights before moving into an agreement like that.

I feel like you are the only reactor I have seen who understands - Vi "cares" for Powder, but in reality, she just cares to get things to the way they were back then. To "reach her" as in "to make her go back to who she was". She doesn't understand that to the only way to get her sister back is to forgive Silco and make a compromise. She can't try to destroy him, it won't bring Powder back. Quite the opposite, taking away the only person who cared for her and loved her all those years Vi was gone is not going to fix anything. Just break their "family" all over again. But she is not even willing to consider it. Hence she loses her sister. Life is not simple. You can't do black and whites. Sometimes you have to sacrifice for the people you love. And Vi just... doesn't want to. Or can't. Hence Greek tragedy in 3 acts.
End yes, Silco is human, as is everybody else in the show - that's why it's so great. And the funny thing is - we might hate his extermism, but _he would have actually have done it_. If not for his humanity - if not for Jinx - he would have won the Underground its freedom. The first 3 episodes, the setting of oppression - that would all be gone. What direction they would have moved in is another question, but Silco was actually right, and Vander was wrong - the goal WAS reachable. He almost had it.

  • @Arkayjiya
    @Arkayjiya 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think the timeline of the show is very "unfair" to Vi. Vi never had an issue with Powder changing. She didn't understand how Powder changed yet because of course she didn't, she never had the time to learn to know Jinx again, and it wouldn't have gone painlessly but I don't think she would have had much issue to adapt given the opportunity. She can help Jinx by bringing her stability without rejecting the changes Jinx went through.
And the reason I think it would have been possible is that Jinx is wrong: Vi didn't make Jinx. There's a reason the show open and close on those shots, it's the beginning and completion of Jinx. The council caused Jinx, and season 1 is about them creating and then being destroyed by their creation. How the council's horrible actions toward the Undercity fostered their own destruction.
In the first episode, Powder is already having episodes. She's already showing signs of Jinx (and we see more in Episode 3 *before* everyone dies). Vi has been with both Powder *and* Jinx (even if she didn't call herself that) for years so of course she would be able to adapt since she's already done it. She would make mistakes obviously like she did in act 1, but if they left the city, those mistakes probably wouldn't be as costly as the stakes would be much lower.
But in the show she gets 2 minutes with Jinx in Ep 6 that end before Jinx is able to process (even though she tries when she tell everyone to shut up) , then 10 seconds in Ep 7 when they can't talk and Jinx immediately shoots at her causing her to have to leave, and finally those few minutes in Episode 9 where she does manage to make some progress until it's all nullified by Silco's actions.

I think the fundamental problem between Vi and Jinx, is that Jinx is really bad at communicating what she is thinking and feeling; and Vi is really bad at considering other people's perspectives. Jinx couldn't explain to Vi how she had changed or why, and Vi couldn't see what Jinx was trying to tell her.
The entire "tea party" scene is basically Jinx begging Vi, the only way she can think of, to just see and accept her as Jinx, and let go of the memory of Powder; but because she's so bad at communicating, it comes across as her being crazy and threatening. Meanwhile, Vi is so caught up in what she wants: getting Powder back the way she remembers her, that she doesn't see the signs, that Jinx is desperately trying to reach out to her.

I'm not sure they would actually get their independence. Yes, the council voted for it, but the deal was that Silco would turn Jinx in in return, and that wasn't going to happen. So it might have come to naught in the end anyway.

It's interesting that people latch on to the idea that Vi wants her sister to somehow roll back to her ten year old self. It's Jinx that brings this choice up. She labels the chairs, she asks who Vi wants her to be. Vi has been calling her Powder in the few minutes they have had together, because as far as she knows, that's her name.
Presenting the choice is probably driven my Jinx's own mental health issues.
When they first reunite in episode 6...
Jinx "Things changed when you left. I changed"
Vi. "I know Pow-pow. I know. You did what you had to do to survive. Me too. It's okay."
She realises her sister will have changed over the years. She's obviously shocked by how violent and tormented she has become though. She still doesn't reject her. Even after she's fired a gatling gun at her for no reason Vi can understand.
The next two lines are presented differently to any other dialogue in the show: Fade to black. No music. A little ambient sound:
    Jinx "Are we still sisters?"
Vi "Nothing is ever going to change that"

    • @LadyDoomsinger

Jinx didn't jinx anything. Jinx is the jinx - and the Council brought it on themselves; through their oppression of the Undercity, through their failure to act, through their corruption, and through their refusal to even consider dealing with the Undercity until Jayce literally forced them to. Peace was never going to happen, the Council was too slow to act, the damage had already been done, and Jinx was the consequence of their failure.
Even if Silco had lived, either he wouldn't have handed Jinx over, and it would've been war anyway - OR if he had given her up, Jinx would've felt so betrayed she'd go ballistic and lash out at everybody, probably starting a war just the same. Remember, she'd already made the weapon - it was ready to go before she even kidnapped Vi and Silco - the only thing holding her back from using it, was the hope of reconciling with Vi.
"Weapons can't be unmade, and they're always used," the moment Jinx finished the weapon, the Council lost it's chance to bargain.

Jinx scribbled and doodled over everything in Silco's office. Ashtray's, mugs, little pictures here and there. Just like a kid who draws a picture for their parents and they put it up on the fridge, or they decorate something at school and give it as a gift.
And Silco kept every single one, proudly on display in the very space in which he did his important business where everyone would see it all. "My daughter made that especially for me. I love it. Don't like it? Fuck off, then."
He was a bastard, a ruthless monster. But there are two things that matter more to me than that.
He truly wanted the undercity to be free and prosperous so its people didn't have to suffer anymore. He was willing to commit atrocities to get it, but what he wanted was still a pure thing. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions...
And he truly loved Jinx even more than that dream of his people's freedom. It wasn't the healthiest kind of love, given both their problems. But it was entirely sincere, and probably would've been a good thing if their world actually had proper therapy and medications (which it doesn't, at all).
