Steven BANNED the Exploiters in Alpha 2! | Ashes of Creation

- Steven finally updated the Ashes community with suspending/banning players from the Alpha 2 play test due to exploiting/bug abusing in Ashes of Creation. Now, we all know we are supposed to find bugs and exploits in the game cause THIS IS A TEST however, those players did those exploits and bug abuses so much (100s of times over for hours and hours) to get a competitive advantage in the game. Breaking the ToS and tainting the data from this test is not good for the players or Intrepid. Really glad they finally addressed it and got those players out of the test. Was it enough to scare exploiters in the future? Well, let's get into it!

What is Ashes of Creation?

I am happy they did something regarding the exploits that were happening at the start of phase II. Were they enough? I don't think so but what are your thoughts? Nowhere near enough. This will not deter these toxic people at all.
The 83 account resets are no doubt players that funneled funds / gear to alts on their account thus the only way to undo the exploiting was a complete reset of their accounts.
Bottom line is that until Wednesday players still have no idea what IS and IS NOT an exploit in Steven's eyes. Only then will players see who is NOT banned and know what is allowed.
Multiple PI players who have been caught on video exploiting the height bug are still roaming around Vyra. Funny how Steven is in that guild’s Discord.
Just say the guild name. Why are you hiding it? Is it Enveus? EpH? NOVA?

I fear that if nothing is truly done to win over the active tester-player base, then it's going to be a scenario in which it's a battle of "Exploiter Vs. Exploiter" leaving every non-abuser in the dust as well as alienating them from the Alpha. If that happens, i think testers are going to fall off considerably, leaving behind only abusers.
I duped once and reported it, it has since been fixed I enchanted a green copper energy spell book and had both the original and enchanted spell books in my innovatory
And that's what your supposed to do. There were people who probably did what you did but many many times over thinking they would get away with it. That's a problem but thanks for reporting your bug Frosty =)

same here. Finding Bugs and Exploits is NOT the same thing as "Exploiting", you know, when you report them and move on.
"Once an Exploiter always an Exploiter". It takes a Life altering Event to change people like that, which RARELY EVER happens.
idea... have heard of other games doing this: Exploiters are finding exploits (some say to justify it). Banish those caught exploiting to the "EXPLOITERS ONLY" server...
Personal opinion, I believe that the number was so low, and duping was not specifically mentioned because they most likely know who is doing it, and are watching these accounts closely to 1. figure out how they are doing it 2. who is accepting or asking for these items and 3. determining the punishments/ preparing all the accounts associated for said punishment. Heres to hoping.
I will say it again, p2w did not kill EVE, it was the devs thinking the guys in-game they were playing with were "their friends" and letting them go without an action when they broke TOS.
When you invest x amount of $$ in a game, you are still accountable for your behavior!! I am a kickstarter, and I sure take care of mine.
People are mad at exploiters because they truly think it's morally wrong or because they know that this "alpha" is the actual tentative release
My opinion is that this was great for the anti-toxic chat stuff that was going on. It was pathetically weak against cheaters and will not deter any of them from doing it again the moment they get back in. I'm sitting here looking at the server and seeing Yokkai retaining his mayorship when he has been repeatedly caught blatantly exploiting, meaning he has neither been suspended nor banned. This means being PI makes you immune to real discipline. They paid their way to that position. Hence PI = P2W. If adjustments don't happen tot he server itself as well, the cheaters and their guilds will have not lost any of the massive benefits they gained through their behavior. Any "3 strikes you're out rule" is a direct contradiction to everything Steven has been talking up for months. As of now, this looks soft af and is extremely disappointing. There is a slight chance that the rest of the adjustments that he referenced being done by Tuesday will be enough to tip the scales, but for now? Weak. Weak af. EDIT: Steven specifically stated in one of his streams that the elevation thing is an exploit. He stated as much in Phase 1 with the whole EPH thing. Very clearly stated. there is no question here. People are falling for the cheater's spin campaign. Sadge.
It was not enough, in my opinion. But I do understand it. This is the official warning for everyone that it will not be tolerated in the future. I ecpevt much harsher penalties going forward.
If there's so many bugs and types of bugs you have to have tiers of exploit punishment levels, like at that point can you even blame the players?

There has been a huge need for serious criteria clarification since the beginning. He need only say, find it, report it and do not repeat it. Be very clear. He seems to be dancing on a line at the moment.
griefing is not an exploit, it’s just being a butthead and is not illegal.
I think they did the right thing at the appropriate level.
I never heard anything about dupes this phase. It was all exploits to level/gear faster that i had heard. We will see when all the actions have been taken if those people in vids exploiting are still around.

Sorta feel mixed on this. This will happen again and again throughout alpha weather that be geometry exploits (jumping back and fourth on things), busted items, Op builds and talents, Op boost pulls. In my personal opinion it is Intrepid's job to show they can fix the systems enabling the exploits. For example if you look into the wow community they have a saying "exploit early, exploit often". Granted this is a bit toxic, there can be alot of grey area about what is legal or not. Is partying up and afking boosting? Is pulling a ton of mobs and then using aoe and slows to get an insane amount of xp intended or not? For the normal player this can be very unclear.
I think they need to keep the definition of exploit a bit generic. If they start listing examples, that sets a precedent that some people will interpret as "anything not explicitly mentioned is OK" and suddenly the couple of examples becomes an exhaustive list, and that is difficult to manage.
My 2 cents on this is that this is blend and weak. Multiple guild on The EU side have send in proof about certain individuals on different occasions. They are still happily grieving around right now. On the topic of grieving i feel like they only went for the exploits and are kinda accepting the toxic Riot/Blizz mentality

Assuming the scale of accounts in Alpha those numbers feel way off. And the punishments are way too gentle. Assuming they have the number of testers they state they should be fine with harsher punishments.
My friend just got his account banned for RMT (not AoC). He is 2/3 ways back on a new character in a few days using RMT again.
Hope Steven "sharpens" his ban hammer before full release.
Nothing wrong with finding the bug, the problem comes when you dupe to get ahead. You report it because soon it going to be known eventually. So it’s stupid.i kind of want to climb in, but these games are genuinely almost impossible to catchup with higher player. That worries me.
do you think theyre planning to let testers keep their characters on launch? with the way they are policing this issue i feel its possible

I feel like Steven is really Bad about his "sales weasel verbiage" practices. I also "feel like" he'd be the "Rules Lawyer" in TTRPGs. LOL
But, yeah, only hate was outright banned.
Meanwhile Exploiters are pretty much "contrite when caught", until "tempted" again. It's NEVER their fault.
But IMHO, this is not enough.
After This, "First Time Every Time" is what should happen.

Banning people in an alpha for exploiting or abusing bugs .. is kinda of stupid if you don't want bugs and exploits being abused then release a full game without bugs 😂.. suspension for not reporting said bug sounds more reasonable
no way is this enough. This does nothing they come back and see if they can try a new one.
But this is alpha. Why the fk are they banning people who are exploiting? That is the whole point of Alphas. Why is this being teeated like it's a released game? Yeh this Steven guy is extremely sus. Also, you idiots gettingad at exploiters during alphas are also morons. The exploiters are the real heroes that will make the game better if the devs cared about stability. Most of the alphas "testers" probably hasn't done shit to report any issues.

Making a ton of assumptions. How do you know his friends were the ones exploiting. Cmon man, don't spread lies. Don't over speculate. Just report the news of it and move on. You are now also walking a silly line.

But it is obvious you shouldn't be doing it? In real life, if you withdraw money from the bank and you continuously get 100 more than you should with each new transaction due to an error, you know it's wrong and you should report it.
Are you trying to say it's the bank's fault and should keep abusing the error?
These people know they are abusing an error, and they deserve a permanent ban from alpha two, Steven and his team was very lenient.
