Really solid points and very accurate as to how the game plays currently. Looking forward to positive changes when it comes to TTK, class balance and gear tuning.
Had so much fun in that scrim! -Geminichase - ranger in amethyst. Was 22 during these fights! Exciting to be alongside more PvP at 25. See ya after the server 2 day patch ⭐️
DLSS is gonna be required for AoC. Its pretty much required for throne and liberty which has the same scale of fights as AoC will. Interested to see how it will handle 200 v 200 and larger fights.
@ZaybakTV, great video and awesome take on the current state of the game in PvP regards. Since i've no lifed the game since P2 started (3-4 waiting, can't blame myself bout that :D) and also one of the few fighters in my highly competative PvP guild, here are some thoughts and tips regarding fighters. I'll start with a few things regarding bugs that most people use on purpose or unintentionally, imbalanced systems: 1. Currently different weapon skill trees stack. In both combo weapon attack modifiers and weapon finisher effect. This devalues a bit the big status effect and playing off each other system has and I hope get patched soon, although more important systems are prio atm. Bards take advantage the most out of this since they get % more multiplier with each debuff on target with their scepter combo a the moment (7k+ damage in 3s from a support class is just stupid). 2. All CCs (both hard and soft) having a threshold of being applied 2 times after which the target is immune to them for 10s is absurd and needs revision. This is especially prelevant for slows. There needs to be either less diminishing returns for soft CC or at least seperate if from hard CC. Currently root/slow are on the same DR timer. 3. Damage from everyone, especially with +6 and above enchanted gear is for sure insane and every class would probably need 10-15% at least nerf. Your video released shortly before patch notes were announced which gave mages massive nerfs, so they are making progress on the balance side. Continueing on with the brief class discussion you had: 1. Mages are king of AoE damage and in large scale fights they are one of the 2 main initiators and play makers, along with Ranger's with their Vine Field/Root ability setting up AoE. In small skirmishes both classes get a bit outshined due to their limited single target CC capabilities. (hard to land roots on a single enemy and sleep having a cast time). 2. Bards and Tanks you're absolutely spot on. Bards are insanely OP now and Tanks are a very well designed/balanced class. 3. Fighters have an insane sustained damage pressure, which currently makes them the 2nd best after mages in 1v1/2s and small skirmishes. In large scale battles are main objective is giving CC/disable evasion via Battle Cry to the group and either peeling for backline or picking off overextended side lines/flanking. Example: Battle Cry in your group (which nets you at least 30 or so momentum) and poke with longbow combo attacks. If you see someone overextending or a great initiation from Ranger/Mages, you can jump in the backline and sleep a healer and go on another to nuke them down. You'll have AT LEAST 60+ momentum in such a situation which lets you pull a trip/maim/lethal blow combo and use Berserk to get 5-6s of CC immunity and reset the combo, netting a few kills in this time. The base archetypes are fairly well made, however, the multiclass system could make or break the fighter for large scale combat. We are absolutely fine in small scale/caravan/1v1 or 1v2 fights. Long post so thank you to whoever goes through it and if you got any feedback on it, I'm open to discuss. AoC Hype!
I'm playing a fighter and 100% relate to the range meta and melee doldrums, when doing scrims fighter has to plink with a bow until its time to dive in and mop up or pick someone off who got separated from the group. In very small groups fighter can shine but in anything medium to large they are severely disadvantaged, you get in range to do dmg and the entire enemy group nukes you before you can combo.
@hexknives6352 I personally would like to see gear at 35-40% of player power. But my opinion is kind of worthless, because tailoring to my ganking/small-scale style would just kill the game.
yeah ive been playing a fighter on the alpha and yeah combats feeling great just needs the pvp ttk toned down and we've got some chefs kiss pvp on our hands
survivability seems to come primarily from levels, like gear doesnt give enough armour/hp whatsoever. getting 40 health from an item when you're at 4k just from being level 20 something is just kinda silly. "Melees" are just rangers without abilities. Fighters should have a proper hamstring as you mentioned, but honestly they should probably have a speed buff like rangers. intrepid should remove the Penetration stat from the weapon trees. it's basically a required pick anyway so it doesnt add to build variety and it's also 20% armor pen flat.
2:54 "Time to Kill gets faster and faster" yes - the rarity scaling issues in P2 have been replaced by enchanted gear race, and with similar results. You can stack your class's damage stats, whatever that would be STR, DEX or INT. Too insane levels, so in decent 25 gear, you would be expected to have lets say 90 INT or STR, with enchanted gear, scrolls and pots you can hit double, triple the number. There is the question of "diminishing returns" to consider, but from what I have seen, the damage boost is "substantial" so its hard to talk about balance. I consider talk of competitive pvp a bit of a joke. Defensive stats don't do much. Its too easy to stack penetration and damage stats. On the top of that we have some fairly serious balancing issues and bugs affecting class archetypes.
25 lvl bard here, your damage comes from the resonance stacks you get by using your abilities, but also...multiple bugs (like applying finisher effects from un-equipped weapons....), but also questionable design decisions with certain weapons like wands and books. So if your R stacks are up, you can be really bursty, and I hope some dmg values adjustments are done soon, especially for stuff like wands etc. Clerics are insanely OP in group pvp in large numbers. Clerics being a pure healer class is in my opinion a mistake also, as it makes their heals too OP and the class itself rather flat. I would take some of the healer classes from Return of Reckoning ANY day over the Ashes cleric. Cleric needs some nerfs in terms of healing power, ESPECIALLY in group play. I have the same sentiment about Ashes tank, RoR tanks sh...all over the Ashes tank design with variety of playstyles and a sense of power. Mages are extremely OP in terms of damage, but somewhat hindered by their stun break being broken. We know nerfs are coming for mage soon, but I honestly don't think that is going to be enough for group content. Too much burst and AoE.
I only started in Phase 2, I’m a Cleric and haven’t lost a single 1v1 yet Im presuming from what you say it’s only going to get harder for me due to everyone’s damage output getting larger as time goes on Cleric currently just out heals any incoming damage
So that was you. I saw you grinding one of the islands next to carph a while back and considered poking you. Yea, i agree with everything you said. Defensive stats don't scale the same as offensive stats and the ttk is way too low. I think i'd rather they double everyone's hp instead of halving damage so the numbers don't change too much. The phase 2 pre-testing was a lot of fun because we were force to play with shit gear. Some of our mages have enchanted up level 10 gear and what they do is disgusting. They just melt people. Most of them have so much pen that your defensive stats don't matter, and there is no way to get enough health with how poorly con scales. Everyone knows fighters need tweaks. Fighters in my guild were asked to switch to either tank or ranger. I feel like they are in an ok place when it comes to 1v1s and small scale but they really need some tweaks so they perform better in raid v raid. They just get focused and are out performed by range classes. I'm assuming that rogues are just going to be better fighters when they release, and after that, hopefully they go back and rework fighter so it performs better.
I haven’t play it yet. Mb if they lower the price… but it seems that they’ve got Archeage battle system and perfected it. This game looks like Archeage on steroids
Wish they'd reduce the range you can see nameplates. And I hope nameplates don't stick out when trying to line of sight someone or when you are hiding behind a structure.
I agree, the fighter in large scale pvp is more or less useless and the thing about fighter going in and killing someone isn't a viable strategy until you have built enough momentum to remove/make yourself immune to cc while doing so. In small scale pvp 1v1s all the way up to 8v8s it can see a bit more play, but a skilled fighter vs a skilled any other class it's an uphill battle. I myself have killed lvl 25s (including bards) as my shitty lvl 20 fighter, but that is purely just a skill gap between myself the opponent. On equal footing, it's a tough fight that can be one sided, and getting kited is a viable strat to use vs fighter when fighting any mage, ranger and bard. I think what fighter needs to be more useful is a cooldown of somekind that doesn't rely on ramp up, but is more immediate utility. Berserk as cool as it is, it's too reliant on ramp-up and longevity of a fight and for that reason its utility is significantly diminished the shorter the TTK is. The CC immunity should be removed from Berserk and added to something like blood infusion or just a separate cooldown entirely. Being tied to Berserk makes it really bad imo and forces you to use Berserk a lot earlier than you would initially want to in a fight and leads to very limited use of Berserk's more offensive aspects. The TTK right now is too fast, it may not as bad as pre-gear nerf, but it's till pretty bad imo. Hopefully when they start implementing balance changes, they look more at the TTK and maybe tone down bards a bit, their damage with just auto attack is a bit insane currently while also able to kite and heal. They are a little absurd right now imo.
Hey brother, thanks for the vid. I was thinkin about gettin into this. I heard you say the game ran decently well during the 40v40, minus some expected FPS fluctuations. How's your FPS normally? I have a midrange PC right now from like 3 years ago. Was thinking of buying into AoC, but thought it might be pointless until I upgraded my PC, because I get kind of triggered by games running bad, or seeing lots of 50/60 FPS (or lower) areas. I got spoiled on running some games 120/140FPS, and now it's really hard to go back. I don't care about playing on low settings though. What do you think, how's the game just run for you normally when you're out and about, outside of the 40v40?
What are you using to record your gameplay? For some reason, some of my recordings aren't coming out looking super great. I think this might be why some people think the game looks bad, when it is actually really nice looking in game.
Is there any thought involved in pvp? It looked like you were just doing whack-a-mole with your abilities keeping every single one on CD -- popping the next one to stick back up.
You mention that fighter and tank have problems with kiting, and locking down a target. Yet you also say that there should be a global decrease in pvp dmg. Burst dmg is the only way to beat someone kiting you. So increasing time to kill would only make things worse, and make it better for people who can kite. Even more so when you can’t lock a ranged player kiting down…
Most of the kiting in my opinion is coming from limited resource things like Stamina and movement cooldowns. The issue is that the TTK is so low that the fight never lasts long enough for the limited nature of these resources to be felt. By the time a mage blows all his cooldowns and stamina the fight is long over.
The slow when auto attacking feels horrible in pvp. Especially on ranged. And rangers have no defensive cooldowns (I guess it s the case for several classes but hey, mages have one..)
dlss doesnt even work right now just for you to know, idk what your people with those ( amazing graphic cards) are telling you, i have a 4090 and if i put dlss on i have lower fps then off.
Rangers are bad in 1v1 but In group PVP they excel. Fighters are cracked in 1v1 but this game is mostly group PvP. An actual good tank Imo will only lose to a Bard....because Bard.
pffff ZERG mmorgp damn ,...CASTERS OP ..a grind zerg fest ..a game where solo is not wanted ..is not solo firendly...u need to like some hands and feet of this girlyman like leader of private sftare .. pff tht girly man is this new schizofrenics and paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaranoids ..tht destroy other fun ..this is his whole 2k guild scope ..to ruin games ..BIG guilds will ruin the game , I wait DUNNE mmorpg ..at least i dont need to kiss someone feet to be succesful is solo friendly
I'm convinced people that have this take haven't actually played the game. I'm not sure if it's just a case of the game not looking good with limited bitrate / small TH-cam screens...but I never hear this complaint from actual players.
I only started in Phase 2, I’m a Cleric and haven’t lost a single 1v1 yet Im presuming from what you say it’s only going to get harder for me due to everyone’s damage output getting larger as time goes on Cleric currently just out heals any incoming damage

I swear they originally said gear would only amount to around 40% of player power in PvP. This is what go me so excited as a ganker.
it would be better if 50% gear 50% skill. and not matter about level.

Bard has resonance passive which adds dps done right. It’s actually really strong, maybe too much so.

Great vid! Maybe you can do a leveling guide/pvp build and rotation guide for fighter?
survivability seems to come primarily from levels, like gear doesnt give enough armour/hp whatsoever. getting 40 health from an item when you're at 4k just from being level 20 something is just kinda silly.

i think bard is perf balanced u have to build stacks to one shot and u also have to spec into that why punish players for speccing into small scale

I use OBS to record. Ashes is a game that looks much better when you actually play it. Small phone screens and low video bitrates don't do it justice.
Agreed. Hate to be that guy but unless changes are made, I’m going Bard.
i agree the time to kill is WAY too fast
Is there any thought involved in pvp? It looked like you were just doing whack-a-mole with your abilities keeping every single one on CD -- popping the next one to stick back up.
Nah there's a lot more to it than that. Lots of depth especially when you consider the ability effect combos and other classes.
at 3:45 the guy charges away and then teleports behind you... is that lag??
Probably or some sort of client server correction due to lag on his end.
