Great review! And at 9:55 you show my experience as well. I don't need a pair of pliars to EDC so I don't like most multi-tools. I use scissors a lot for tags and other things. Spyderco is usually a quality brand I can trust, and having scissors this poorly designed is a big letdown.
I have gotten a few recommendations in tools with scissors. But so far i have not found any scissors which do better than the victorinox scissors. The ones i showed in the vic sd video i have now sharpened. But those open to 120 degrees. I like spyderco knives too…but i assume they did what Leatherman did around 2016: firer their QC department.
@@SpartanJohnsit’s annoying because I use scissors a lot. Victorinox are definitely the standard. I used to have a Leatherman Micra that I really liked but it fell off my keychain. So mani multitools focus on pliers.
FYI the scissors on the pliers-based keychain multitool called the Otacle P1 are good. Seem to cut everything well. Sold by the Olight flashlight brand.
@@K.M925 They were about the same price when I got mine -- roughly 25 bucks. About a dollar cheaper for the NexTool on the version with the knife. The knife-less Nextool is a few bucks lower than that. (I don't shop on AliExpress -- it may be half off on there.) So I went with the Otacle because I preferred the scales and fit and finish.
@@SpartanJohns Only problem with the scissors IMHO is the little tab to deploy them can break your fingernail, but I've learned to come at it from a different angle to prevent that. Also, while the spring is strong, if it breaks that's it because there's not much of a warranty.
Interesting, i think i will just stick to my keychain victorinox for now. I'm sure sharpening the scissors might help as you have suggested but as i learned from Engineer’s Perspective youtube channel, the sharpness isnt really the main cutting mechanism of scissors, its the angle of the two sides in comparison to one another so that correct pressure is applied between them. I am not sure how adjustable this is with these tools but i guess the sides could be bent a bit, though that seems quite a precise and difficult task maybe. You mentioned sharpening AND setting up the scissors, i wondered if this is what you were talking about or something else. In any event, i enjoyed the video.
This is what i meant. The scissors of the sd, when new, have a bit more aggression to them. You can sharpen them to get that back. However tightening the pin and bending the blades is something i am not into trying out. What i found out is that even when you use the scissors of the sd for a long time, even after they lose the initial aggression they still cut better than most other scissors.
@SpartanJohns ah, ok, yes that makes sense, thanks for the clarification. Also, that is a really good point about the longevity of the vic scissors, definitely mirrors my experience when I think about it
I'm going to buy a knife and would really appreciate your take on Victorinox Forester. Especially the blade and the locking mechanism. Is it good for bushcraft? And can the blade withstand moderate abuse?
I had the Forester. Great for bushcraft! The saw is superb. As for abuse…depends on what you mean. As it is a folder…if you use it as such it will last you a long time. If you try to split wood with it(batoning)..that would be a bad idea. It might withstand it, it might not. But if you use it to cut wood, carve it, make notches, make feathersticks, cut rope, food, packages, cardboard…the blade will do an excelent job. I thin out the grinds on my vics. So the cut better. This is also how they hold an edge much better. But not if you abuse it, pry with it or put shock into the ecuation(batoning, chopping)

I will have a look at it. Thanks for suggesting it
@franticflintstone7999 If you buy a nextool mini sailor, it is the same product without olight brand at half the price.
yes. I looked into them and noticed that. I also like the fact that the nextool comes in 2 versions. Will definitely look into them
