@@TheRottyRanch if i have children under 10 years doberman is better then a rottweiler as a pet companion. Which one is more affectionate and maybe less energy drive or can be more laid back? Any suggestions?

      @@nycas2192 that’s hard.
Dobermans typically the same temperament with a sharper outlook.

Thank you for giving truthful and basic advice for potential Rott Pawrents. This is very important for the breed. All animals are a direct reflection of their Owner’s attention and training. Any breed of dog can be problematic. Once again it is DIRECTLY related to the pawrenting and training. For too long, Rotts(pits, dob, corso, etc) have been judged harshly due to laziness and or being not informed. Once again thank you. I am sure you are super proud of your pack. Your hard work and dedication shows! Kudos👍🏼

Love your channel and your love for Rottweilers. I'm on my second. My wife and I rescued a female Rottie from the pound years ago and she was the best darn dog I've ever been around. Now we have a 1 year old male and he is absolutely amazing as well. He is so friendly and fun. Loves people and we just got back from the dog park. He got along with every person and dog. I love most dogs but I'm very partial to Rottweilers. They are highly intelligent, very friendly towards nice people, excellent around kids, extremely easy to train, loyal to the bitter end and if they have to go into protection mode, they MOST CERTAINLY will. IMO they are the epitome of what a dog should be. Thank you so much for showing how amazing Rottweilers are. So many uneducated people out there think they're evil and always aggressive. When Rottweilers have great homes with great owners, they are one of the most versatile dogs on the planet. Loving, friendly, fun, goofy and just huge Teddy Bears.

Not an owner or ever have been myself but for some reason recently I have been drawn to Rotties. They are handsome and the exhibition of a macho dog behaving well is a salute to the breed. I have to say it’s been about a year now I’ve become really into rotties, mostly at forst purely by being so suprised and how docile they can be if trained well , I was shocked and that led on to more and more studying them , they really are special. I loved this video , you were kind and giving us all your knowledge but like you said you were not just going to be nicey nicey for the hell of it bcos it’s serious. A lot of it is common sense.
In my opinion if one of your first questions when getting a dog is how long can I get away with leaving it alone you probably shouldn’t bother.

Thanks so much for your transparency with regards to this incredible breed! I look forward to adopting one to round out our pack...(but I still have so many questions...how are they as puppies, how can you tell a good breeder from a bad one, is it worth the risk of getting one from a shelter, how is their health, etc...). Love your channel- thanks for what you do! I personally do not think a Rottweiler is a good first dog. Though a rot was my dream dog for so long, it’s my fourth dog as an adult. And it’s a whole different ballgame!! But two reasons I feel it’s better to start with a different big dog. One, at least you have some big dog experience. A rot is much more work, but you have some knowledge and experience, which is trial and error for sure with any dog. Two, I strongly believe it’s good to overlap a rot puppy with a trained older dog. My big dog that I already had is a Goldendoodle, and such a sweet breed!! And it’s been a lifesaver to have her for my rot. They play so much and it’s been perfect for helping keep my rot busy and having a sweet big dog to wrestle and play with. She’s been a huge enhancement to my 8 month old rot’s life. Luckily even tho my Goldendoodle is 9, she’s healthy and active and loves to play tough but knows how to keep it all play. She’s so sweet, so they never fight. Lifesaver to us! I’m SO glad I did it this way.

Great video. I do have to say one thing. You said during this time of covid with people home from work / school we should be giving our dogs a job to do or giving as much attention as possible. I believe we should still be distancing our animals from time to time because we don’t want them to get used to always being next to you and then having mild to severe separation anxiety when we return to work and won’t be there for 8 hours. Just a thought I’d put out there.

We've had 4, and they all died of cancer (lymphoma, tumors, etc.). We now have an 8 month old Rott puppy, who is adorable and sweet, BUT she is a total challenge. Just one example: she often eats her own poop, as well as our 13 year old Border Collie's (often as he's pooping.... UGH!)! We feed her high quality dry and wet (canned) food, so we're still trying to figure out why she eats poop. We get her lots of Benebone and Himalayan cheese chews, but she still rips apart our upholstery on the furniture. She gets plenty of walks and exercise, and still engages in this behavior. We would never give her away, but are willing to work with her, as we adore her. Her antics and demeanor are so sweet, and we are head over heels in love with her!

    Rotts remind me of Labs.
    I had a Lab for 16 years ( lived a long life...RIP).
My brother has a Rott so I'm a Dog Uncle...LOL. They are very loving, great companions and smart, but do need a firm owner. Labs are the same. Both breeds are absolute spazzes that require a lot of exercise.
I believe Exercise is key in managing them. Also, you do need to spend time training them. They are fast learners but without adequate time, they won't learn.
If you love dogs, a Rott will be great!

They are wonderful beings created by God as very awesome companions. Treat & teach them well because they will be what they are taught. Love them, period!!! 💕🐾💕

I got my Rottweiler 30 days ago when he was 8 weeks old and he’s been the smartest and most delightful dog I’ve own so far. He’s a big mama boy, calm, smart, obedient. He loves the farm life but also super happy and chilled in the warmth of his basket. He is so ‘chunky’ and feels amazing to touch! Strangely he growls when he’s on my laps being pet, and he’s the one who always asks for it. It’s like he’s in heaven and enjoys all the pets (I can tell he loves the scratching and massage) but intense growling comes out of his mouth without showing teeth..: it’s the weirdest thing. He used to do this when being picked up but not so much now. I used to punish him for growling but it’s not like he’s growling although he is. It’s so strange! I stopped punishing him and just accept the growling as I don’t believe this is aggression but maybe someone here knows better? I’ll look forward to your video!

And we had socialized him with a lot of our other family members but he always get overly excited and starts biting and growling when he’s around them or even after they leave. He is a very smart pup and very loving. I was wondering if you can give me advice on how to stop that growling and the harder biting.

Hi there, just recently started to come across your videos and I love them! I have a female Rottweiler she is 1 year and 4 months. She is a sweetheart attached to my hip. It’s only me with her and my little Pomeranian. She does well with me hand feeding her food, I taught her that as a puppy, however, at around 8 months I started to give her dehydrated cow trachea it’s a pretty good treat size for her and I noticed if my niece sits by her while she’s chewing it up she growls and then when I tried to take it away she growled at me. I guess I didn’t think this would be an issue, how would I be able to correct this? I pulled her up to a sitting position by collar and bent down and took away treat. She does this only when she has a decent size chewing treat. She doesn’t growl with her toys when they’re taken away. Thank you in advance!

    • @TheRottyRanch
      @TheRottyRanch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Pet her while she’s chewing on it and get her used to the fact that you’re the alpha.
Sounds like some sort of “food aggression”.
After she’s used to you petting her while chewing on it, then work on teaching that you Don’t allow her to eat while you’re directly petting her. It’s a sign of respect from them to you.

I would say a Rottie generally isn't suitable for a first time dog owner. Some may be easier than others but as an owner of 3 male Rotties over the past 25 years they are not for everyone. Rotties will test you, disobey you and continue to so. You need to be consistent to the point of being obsessed with it. You need to remain calm and stern, but treat them fairly. Some rotties are very aloof also and don't want cuddles and if you have one like this you need to respect it, regardless of how cuddly looking he is

Hello. I have an 11 month Rotty named spencer and I relate to what you are saying. I do work all day 5 times a week and sometimes I dont get enough time to spend with Spencer however Im lucky he has a small compound to play and I get him enough toys and a trainer who sees him at least 3 times a week. However at the end of the day he is my family member and my responsibility. I give him as much time as possible during weekends and spend as much time as i can squeeze with him outdoors. However i find that his energy at times a lot. While i like this...is there a way i can find some balance. I mean he only knows 2 energy levels- 0 when asleep or eating and 100 when he is, well, doing everything else! Does this sound familiar?

over a decade ago i had a rottie, when he was about 7 or 8 months old, I took him to a near by park in the middle of the day when all the kids were in school to so some off leash training. Unknown to me was a bike rider coming up on the path from behind me, but my rottie saw him and charged him. Luckily no one was hurt, the bike rider was able to jump off his bike safely and my rottie ended up crashing into the front wheel. Other than being a bit shaken everyone was alright. However from that day on my rottie gets rather angry with bike riders, motor cycles, skater boarders, mopeds, scooters, and so forth. Fortunately i never left him off leash unless at home, ever again. Having said that i don't recommend rotties as first time breed. In general

So my question is: since I will be a first time owner of a Rottweiler soon, would he be a good fit, considering he or she would spend 100% of the time just about with me? Yes. I love tje thought of the dog being with you 100> of the time, just remember it will be tough the few first puppy years with how much energy and excercise and training they need, now the older stages, your dog will be the happiest pup ever, however in later stage, you may have issues getting her/him in and out of the truck.

I wished my sis have seen this before having a Rottweiler for their very first dog ... She was a first time dog owner... Her children (age 13 and 14) asked for a Rott...They live in an apartment, never bring it outside for walks nor play with it to exhaust all its energy...Even her son who supposed to be "pet lover" never paid attention to Rambo unless he was scolded that he have to... Rottie only got to play for 30mins for a whole day... He was only at his cage... They will bring him out to take a pic as if they really love playing with him... But Rottie
was a very sweet pup ... Until they send it to training at the very young age not one year old yet... When he got back he still got the same treatment... No training, playing nor enough attention... He would snarl, growl or show his teeth to my sis, her son and daughter and even kids... Me and my 4 years old brother was fine tho... He would let us pet him and be near him except for feeding time... Now they were blaming the dog for being like that and calling him a bad name like devil or mf.... Now they got 2 Labradors... They still live in an apartment... Still in the cages... Never got the training, playing and attention the dogs needed... Then they got 2 pugs... Same situations...
