  • In the premiere episode of "Working with Photoetch" I show you how to install photoetched control panels in the 1:32 scale Viper Mk 2 from Moebius Models. This PE set is designed for easy lighting, or can be built as a non-lit version.
    Future episodes will show you how to bend photoetch, anneal it, and many other more advanced techniques.

    I have several of the Paragrafix etch kits & they are gorgeous! This is certainly a guy who cares enough about his fellow modelers to give us a great little video! Thanks!

    A small chisel is also a great tool for cleaning the plastic. Good series. Kasper

    I have a phot etched and resin kit for a United States Coast Guard Jay hawk helicopter. In assembling the basket in PE. Should I solder or use CA to hold it together?

      I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that part. I would guess that CA would be better. You definitely need to use CA to attach it to the resin.

    Where did you get the glass you use to cut your photoetch on? It looks it has some bumpers to protect your hands.

    • @ParaGrafixModeling
      @ParaGrafixModeling  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't remember the exact store (it's been over 10 years), but it's a glass cutting board from someplace like Target or Bed Bath & Beyond, or maybe even Benny's (a defunct local discount chain) or Big Lots.
      The rubber corners are really just there to keep the board from moving around, not for any kind of protection. You can use any flat, solid surface like a piece of floor tile.
      I actually use Xuron Professional Photoetch Scissors now instead of the Xacto blade.

    Nice video, thank you. I would like to ask: can I use Micro Metal Foil Adhesive as a replacement of superglue? Thank you very much.

    • @ParaGrafixModeling
      @ParaGrafixModeling  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Milos. It really depends on what type of parts you're attaching.
      If you are attaching a flat piece of photoetch to a flat piece of plastic (eg. for a control panel), then yes the Micro Metal Foil Adhesive works great.
      If you're trying to secure a folded piece of photoetch etch together, though, you're better off with super glue ... or soldering. (Note to self: get to work on that soldering video!)

    Was wondering what you might, recommend for lighting the photo-etch with backlight decal, I'm currently working on this model, and now at the stage where i need to come up with how im lighting it, currently a toss up between some fiber optic and one central LED. i'm shure ill get there but, some advice would be nice.

    Yes, I will be making more photoetch videos - I've just been up to my eyeballs actually designing photoetch that I haven't had any time to do the other videos that I'm planning.

    Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I'm working on the scripts for the upcoming episodes, and hope to begin posting the week after next.
    OliviasDaddy1: Yes, the parts are acid etch brass. I picked up the cutting board at Target for about $5 - I'm sure a similar glass cutting board could be picked up at a Big Lots or dollar store for even less.
    Cheers,
    Paulbo

    Hey will you guys be making any parts for the new Zvezda Star Destroyer? It's a great kit but could definitely use extra detail in certain areas.

    Before you paint etch make sure you use a etch primer, liquid or aerosol products work then you can paint onto the etch. Probably featured in another video so ignore me ha ha

    i bought a $20 xacto knife from a store, but when i went to replace the blade i found them to be super expensive, so i just bought knockoff xacto blades off ebay, $4 for 30 and they last 90% as long as normal ones

    • @ParaGrafixModeling
      @ParaGrafixModeling  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like Excel blades - they seem to last longer than Xactos and I get 100 packs for about $16. The pack I have now is finally running low after about 6 years of use.

    what dremel do you use?

    • @ParaGrafixModeling
      @ParaGrafixModeling  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a "standard" Dremel ... I.e. one that I bought when they only had one model rotary tool (other than the battery powered one). Of course, almost nothing is compatible with it now other than the bits. I'm going to have to do some major refurbishment on my drill press to take care of the rust on the frustrum because the new press won't fit my old machine.
      I'm afraid I don't have a suggestion if you're looking to purchase a new Dremel.

    Sorry I haven't responded 2wirelink - for some reason when I attempt to post I get an error message. You can purchase the photetch at the ParaGrafix web site. For some reason I'm not allowed to post the site address, but it's ParaGrafix(dot)biz.

    "I'm going to leave out the painting because you already know how to do that" - negates reason why I clicked on the video. Pity.

      There are, literally, thousands of videos out there showing how to paint model kits. 99.9% of them by people better at painting than I am. It is best to get information from the experts.

      Do you paint the part before or after gluing the PE? Does CA glue work for PE to painted plastic?

    • @darkwood777
      @darkwood777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I came here specifically to learn how to prime and paint, and it wasn't even covered! Crazy.

    • @darkwood777
      @darkwood777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Painting brass is totally different from painting plastic and requires different prep of the surface. You are supposedly the expert here.
