it is criminal that Ian Crichton is not held in the same esteem as all the other great guitarists we know. His work with Saga is so consistently good over the lifespan of the band. He helps thicken up the key leads by playing what they play. His solo on this song is one of my favourites. uses the whole fretboard. Doesn't go a million notes a second ( even though he could) builds the solo lyrically , fits the mood of the song, then doubles the key lines going out. Never in any top ten polls, let alone magazine covers. Seen him multiple times and never fails to blow me way with his performance. The whole band has been so good for so long, they're kind of taken for granted.
It's true. I think they have underestimated Crichton and have not given him the place he deserves, among the best guitarists, not only of the 80's, but of all time. He has very good technique, very good rhythm, speed and creativity; in addition to being one of the band's former leaders.
Esa canción me recuerda mucho de mi niñez. Es un clásico que siempre que la escucho es como la primera vez. En mi país hasta la legislatura les hizo un reconocimiento por la gran fama que tienen acá en Puerto Rico.
How in the World did this group not become more well known and famous? So bloody good. I don't remember how I discovered them back in University; I'm so glad I did
From what I remember, back in the 80s they were somewhat popular in Canada, not so much in the U.S but had a huge following in West Germany. Not really sure why particularly, but the West Germans were crazy about them. Weird.
At that time I was practisin "Fullkontact Karate" and me and my friends where hired to be "security-guards" in Lund (Sweden)....A fantasic concert!!!!!
One of the best songs ever performed by Saga, this band brought something new with their vision, there is not even one band that sounds like Saga, i saw them live twice and met 4 members of the band in person, it was in 2006 at Rock of Ages Festival, Saga were the headliners of the second day, a few hours before the show they did a meet and greet and so i met them, the show was fantastic with fireworks in the air at the end of the show, it was a true celebration between the band and their fans, thanks for sharing.
I am born in '58, in my early teenager age I got hooked to symphonic rock music. Saga dropped in there, i think around '76, and the band flabbergasted me for a long time.Initially, i loved the music mainly because of the guitarists input, his licks are maybe the best i ever heard, aside from David Gilmour in PF. But you know, Saga wouldn't be Saga without the rest of its performers. The singer, the bassist, the keyboardist, the drummer.... They were just one perfect combination.... Saga was a band, once you discovered it, to keep it in your heart.
Born 1965. Have to agree with your comment Rolf. Very well stated. Saga was my first real experience with this genre in 1981. After that it was Depeche Mode and Kraft Werk etc....but Saga was my first. I still have the Saga Live cassette for a keepsake. My first real girlfriend bought it for me. Sadly, i never saw them live.

Amazing. This was when they still played each note on the keyboard instead of the later preference of simply changing the pitch in a programed sequence.
I saw this band in a bar in 1979 in Canada - they were great and they just got better. They deserve more recognition and fame than what they got - sad!
This album's full of Moog synthesizers. This 3rd LP by Saga was their first to have Jim Gilmour as the main keyboardist. The first keyboard you see as this video opens is the Yamaha CS80, which at 220 pounds makes it a real King Kong to both pick it up and keep it in tune at the same time.

Terje, well said sir! Same here. Always popped in a Saga cassette driving home from college in the early 80's to visit my girlfriend (who is now my wife). And, now reliving it on TH-cam. Fantastic!
What a great underrated band, I first seen or heard of them back in the good ol' days of MTV with their video off of the World's Apart album which I bought on cassette, I believe it was the Wind Him Up video. Did not know they had so many other albums. After seeing them on MTV for a short while, seemed like they disappeared, now I have to rediscover them again. Glad to know there is much more music from them out there!
This to me is one of the greatest songs of my lifetime. Came out when I was 14, I'm now 57

Well said Jim. When I first saw this on MTV I went nuts being classically trained. Peace Bro!
Well said. I’m not a guitarist, but to me, Crichton’s playing has elements of Eddie Van Halen and Steve Howe of Yes. And I love this solo.
His very short solo in the outro of "What's It Gonna Be" (from the album) is understated brilliance.
Frank Zappa has such a melodic voice with Saga
Unfassbar geile Musik 💪🏼😍

@@paulcarfantan6688 Yeah, the entire band basically moved to Germany, except for Steve Negus who stayed in Canada.
At that time I was practisin "Fullkontact Karate" and me and my friends where hired to be "security-guards" in Lund (Sweden)....A fantasic concert!!!!!
I love this song, Saga is one of my favorite bands, greetings from Las Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
I have loved Saga since their first album. Thanks for sharing this crazy good music!
Michael Sadler should get more recognition than he does for that incredible voice.
Saga, Rush & Triumph are Canada's gift to the music world!
Earl Johnson You sir are absolutely correct !
+Earl Johnson I would put Tom Cochrane , Kim Mitchell ahead of saga and triumph even Big Sugar are better
+Earl Johnson Is this channel gay friendly?
spacedoginnebraska
OK, so you are gay friendly???
+Earl Johnson you forgot
about April Wine...:)
Holy cow. I was living under a rock... What an awesome song, and makes me proud to be a Canadian even more!

Puerto Rico love Saga🇵🇷❤
One of the best songs ever performed by Saga, this band brought something new with their vision, there is not even one band that sounds like Saga, i saw them live twice and met 4 members of the band in person, it was in 2006 at Rock of Ages Festival, Saga were the headliners of the second day, a few hours before the show they did a meet and greet and so i met them, the show was fantastic with fireworks in the air at the end of the show, it was a true celebration between the band and their fans, thanks for sharing.
Je suis scotché, je ne connaissais pas cette perle, quel riff
one of best from Saga !
Saga , one of the best sound sound magicans ever !!
Their signature tune!
Saga was a band, once you discovered it, to keep it in your heart.
Born eleven years later - very similar experience :-)
+TheUnclerickie I saw them live, they rocked the house
The lyrics of this song are so strange, do you know what this song is about?

Quedao en el 82 al coliseo, primera vez en mi vida que vi láseres… fenomenal
Saw them in concert back in 1982 as the opening act for Pat Benatar, became a fan after that. 🙂
Interesting combo. Missed them in 1982, but saw both separately in 1983 and 84. Pat and the Saga boys, great freaking music.
Such an amazing song. And such an underrated band.

Reminds me of Styx older synth based compositions from the late 70's, I always liked that sound.

future
Symphonic rock very rare music
IT Was when i Was
A teenager
Michael should have kept rocking the mustache! Awesome!!!
one of the greatest bands to ever come out of Canada!
Saga ist für mich einer der besten Rockgruppen der Welt
Saga, Rush and The Tragically Hip are my top 3 Canadian bands. They're just so excellent.
Love the guitar solo ever and all the beautiful song.
Kudos to the keyboard player who has to play those arpeggios for as long as he did!!
Probably the most under rated keyboard player in rock history
The one and only Jim Gilmour. (No relation to David)
Do it on a Mini Moog (early model, a piano is soft compared). My local hero did. Well he is damned good.
It's definitely an endurance test...I used to play piano...what he did was nothing short of a miracle...;)
Yeah...serious finger cramps...
Listened to this during hurricane 2017, now Tropical Storm Sally, AWESOME
Thank you so much for posting a good version of this great song.
Si una de las cosas que hay que caracteriza a Canadá,es su música de los 80s y 90s( me super encanta el ambiente de Canadá y su forma de vida.....Viva Canadá 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Saga. Een van de beste band's van de 80 's
Awesome song. Love the guitar solo mid song. Just close my eyes. One of my favorite bands!!!!
One of the best songs ever.
Was blown away when I saw on MTV..

Yes, this seemed "next level" for sure.
QUEEN UND SAGA absolute Weltklasse
everything saga does makes musical sense they are my ultimate favourite band
Holy smokes! This is awesome. I just stumbled on this today! Wow! I'm ALL IN!
I remember when MTV just started. I was 11 years old passed out on the couch .. I woke up in the middle of the night and this video was on. What impressed me was the musicianship. At that time I was just getting into Genesis. Thanks MTV
Golden times , stereos and Saturday mtv concerts.
Was introduced to Saga in grade 7 by a friend in Oshawa. No turning back after that. Lifetime fan !
They've got the ultimate monster array of incredible analog synths...
I see a few Polymoogs, a Yamaha CS80, a Moog Source and some Minimoogs.
Thats the 80's , forever grandios, Saga the best
we are admirers of SAGA from Sweden!!! Thanks for this very good music!!!! You play very good, malla and Lenis
Tjena landsfrände :) Har precis upptäckt SAGA, vet du möjlitvis vad texten i denna låt handlar om? Hittar ingen förklaring nånstans på internet...
AMAZING SONG! ABSOLUTLEY LOVE IT!!!!
the best Version on You Tube !
Cuando la música valía la pena! 2021 me das algo bueno?? -.-
the voices and drums guitar so magic. I LOVE THIS MAN. BEATIFULL SONG. FROM PANAMA CITY.
Very catchy songs every part of the band works well together. I had no idea they have like 20 albums and still perform today.
Harleys and Canadian music bands, Saga ,April wine ,were my favs back in 70s -80s and still is . AFFA
Jim Gilmour = crazy awesome keyboard player. Most keyboard players would use a sequencer for that arpeggio. He plays it by hand to this day.
g-minor appreg. not too difficult :)
Yeah he's a great player. I never like using sequencers...what's the point of playing it of the machines gonna do the work eh?
Plays it using his left hand, as well...I've played this song, and your left hand is tired AF after this!
Daniel S that‘s exactly what I think!
Im trying to learn this song and picked out the keyboard bits if anyone wants to try it,
Descending broken chords keys:
2X
D Bb A F (Gm9/F)
D Bb G F (Gm7)
2X
D Bb G Eb (Ebmaj7)
C A G Eb (Cm6/Eb)
Hurry and dont be late bit... Block chord harmonies:
Gm

When I first saw this video on early MTV I was hooked on prog rock. Even before Dream Theater came around.
SAGA TOP OF THE WORLD !!!!!
Such an urgency...many feign it...this seems real, so real.
Amazing. This was when they still played each note on the keyboard instead of the later preference of simply changing the pitch in a programed sequence.
A master piece of eighties ....
Reborn back to the best ! Eigthies thanks.
I saw this band in a bar in 1979 in Canada - they were great and they just got better. They deserve more recognition and fame than what they got - sad!
Thank u VH1 for introducing me to dis song(and band)!!!! The guy on the keyboard is toooooooo good, i hope i can do that in my lifetime.
Huge,successful hit in Puerto Rico
🇵🇷 boricua con buen gusto saludos desde toa alta

One of the best rock band ever. I watch them in a concert in 1985, it was amazing...
Everything's right with that Song. I especially love them changing their instruments!
Awesome 80s 1980
This album's full of Moog synthesizers. This 3rd LP by Saga was their first to have Jim Gilmour as the main keyboardist. The first keyboard you see as this video opens is the Yamaha CS80, which at 220 pounds makes it a real King Kong to both pick it up and keep it in tune at the same time.
Look at him running there's so far to go,
He's very short of breath
And he'd said don't be late
Just don't be late
With his parcel tucked tight under his arm
He's sure he's passed half way
And he'd said don't be late
Just don't be late.
DID YOU DO EVERYTHING YOU'RE TOLD
THE INSTRUCTION YOU HAD WAS OLD
I wasn't sure if I'd hear you
I'm glad you're still allright
IT'S ALL BEEN ARRANGED FOR TEN
THE STREETS SHOULD BE CLEAR BY THEN
I've done all that you told me
I'm sure that they will wait
THEIR TIMING WAS MADE QUITE CLEAR
IF WE'RE LATE THEY WILL NOT APPEAR
They don't know, they don't know
They don't know how far we've had to go
CAN YOU PICK UP THIS SLOWING PACE
YOU'RE RUNNING A LOSING RACE
No ! Soon we'll see them
Then you'll know
That I have not delayed, he said
[Chorus]
Hurry and don't be late
You'd better hurry you might be late
Just hurry and don't be late
You'd better hurry you may be late
IF WE'RE LATE I WILL NOT SURVIVE
THEY WILL KEEP ME ALIVE
It's not too far now
And I can only wish you luck friend
I'M SORRY I GO ALONE
THIS METAL IS A COLD HOME
I can see they're waiting
A few more steps and you'll be there, he said
[Chorus]
Just hurry and don't be late
You'd better hurry you may be late

Thanks you very very much for lyrics this song! !👍
Will always be a part of my life
Terje, well said sir! Same here. Always popped in a Saga cassette driving home from college in the early 80's to visit my girlfriend (who is now my wife). And, now reliving it on TH-cam. Fantastic!
This is my greatest favourite song from their. Sensationally exciting and throbbing instrumentation and progressive sound!
Thank you very much!
Throbbing…not my first choice of adjectives. 😂
In the beginning of this song maybe to hear the throbbing instrumentation! Sorry, if You don't hear it!
Simply.......... Awesome!!!!!!
I was fortunate enough to see them live back in the early 1980s. I can’t recall the headliner. Their sound is beautiful! The guitarist is phenomenal.
The most underrated singer ever
What a great underrated band, I first seen or heard of them back in the good ol' days of MTV with their video off of the World's Apart album which I bought on cassette, I believe it was the Wind Him Up video. Did not know they had so many other albums. After seeing them on MTV for a short while, seemed like they disappeared, now I have to rediscover them again. Glad to know there is much more music from them out there!
In the conflation of memories of this period for me, it's Genesis The Lamb, Rush Exit Stage Left, these dudes, CFNY and a whole shit-ton of D&D.
If you haven't seen the Saga vids on TH-cam from the 2012 concert ... you should. A truly amazing band
Saga❤️❤️❤️don’t be late ma chanson préférée 🥰
Autumn 2020 and still listening to this great song!
