12 seconds in and I was just stunned by your intro. It was straight to the point and had close ups of the model in really great non studio lighting. I love it. You are so underrated. Keep doing these fantastic intros

Yeah! It is absolutely massive. Very striking in person. I don’t think the fact that it has more technic pieces is an issue, but I do think people should be aware of it going in.

I can't see this set being around very long, 6 months max. Dune is very love or hate, so I can't see that we will get other Dune sets in the future. Love the mini figures, and i don't mind Technic sets as I like the challenge they sometimes bring. I can see this set as being a future, I wish i had that set. Maybe a future investment set for those who do that it is different, and their won't be anything like it ever made again.
Interesting. I think this set has a chance to do relatively well. It’s price is okay for what you get and LEGO really went all out. This set is ambitious for sure, but I do believe LEGO will keep doing these kinds of ‘risky’ sets. Obviously the timing of this release coupled with the new film next month will also help.

Nice one! I’d love to know how your experience was with the build. I’m a novice when it comes to Technic and my fingertips were numb at the end of this build. Well worth it tough.

I love the set, admittly I am very much a Lego beginner, just a few easy star wars sets but this it's Dune! Regardless of the diffculty spike I had to get this. Building did take a while but one thing that struck me is that the technic mechanics reminded me of a lot of the Gunpla stuff I have built where you create these complex movement systems out of just parts. Lots of seperate parts. I don't mind the exposed studs or technic stuff as I accept thats well its a lego set, all the functionallity is the reason I was sold on it and it delivers on the play experices in spades.
Now off to inspect some Spice harvesters.

@@DarkAnimalStudios it was alot of fun to build and I think irl it looks better than on pictures, also I replaced most of the red and the yellow parts with black pieces, looks really good
I have this set haven't touched it yet I'm waiting, I want to order some pieces so everything that can and should've been black will be.
If I may ask, what was the total cost for the replacement pieces?
@@DarkAnimalStudios Order was $44 before tax for 115 pieces for 3 different pins 2 different axles and Techic bush. The piece that will kill you is Technic (Axle 1L with Pin with Friction Ridges) Lego Part# 43093 the cheapest I could find was $3 each yes I said each. I saw them as high as $8-$9 dollars each.
I bought all parts from Brick link. That's just for the wings and feet (Landing gear) pins. Hope this helps. Sort the pieces by used on Bricklink it will save you a lot of money. New you could be looking at a cart total close to what the set cost $100 to $120 or more.
Honestly Kynes should have been left out in favor of rabaan or stilgar, both being much more prevalent in the next movie as Well as being some major players in the first movie.
Yeah I was wondering who they could have left out, but Liet has such an epic scene in the movie. I would love a sandworm diorama for the second film with some of the missing characters
@@DarkAnimalStudios for me, its also cause in the books Kynes had a much more fitting role as the emporers planetologist. Where it was a man who didnt look fremen at all. He looked closer an atreides. So finding out he was part of the sietch was much more of a “shocker” and showed, that people had assimilated into fremen culture before Paul and Jessica. Also fits a lot more with the fact, that Chani played by zendaya who is mixed race. Also kinda forgot about Kynes in the movie up until after the Harkonnen attack, when i first Watched the movie. Like compared to the baron, who only has 4 scenes with dialogue, you remember him the entire way through from the first second. He is also the villain, so Thats a given though
No word about the supid technic achses in red and yellow instead of black or brown? Otherwise great set and review!
I mentioned not liking the red and blue pins, but yeah I’ve seen so many reviews commenting on the switch to more appropriate colours…don’t think it’s happening sadly. But I agree, it would have made this set perfect. Thanks for watching!
Harkonnen Ornithopter (they are quite similar but only have three pairs of wings, load of weapons and different tail) as a set for Dune Part Two, with Feyd, Rabban, Stilgar, Alia Atreides, Irulan and Emperor minifigures.... Only how to reach out to Mike Psiaki with this suggestion??
After the somewhat mixed reception of this set I wonder if they will attempt something like this again. I was also thinking about getting a set of the older ornithopter that they escape with later in the film
@@DarkAnimalStudios I think the Harkonnen ornithopter would be more interesting from the mechanical standpoint, as it has three pairs of single wings, rather than two pairs of double wings, like the Atreides one. The small Liet/Freemen/bush ornithopter that Paul and Jessica escape in later has a single pair of double wings, which would essentially be a very similar mechanism as the one in the Atreides variant, just halved. Doing three pairs of single wings could also make easier to hide all the "unsightly" Technic stuff that seems to be the major complaint of most critics, as it would eliminate the linkage between paired wings. And finally the Harkonnen variant also has a distinctive tail shape, with sort of "trigger" feature that would make for a natural actuator for the wing flap mechanism.
And the mixed reception baffles me. At first I've seen mostly raving reviews with which I tend to agree with, but lately so many of them focus on the exposed Technic pieces and the perceived ugliness of it... Say whatever you will, Technic has had a colour code for its elements for years, it honestly is unfeasible to think they would start producing all of them in black just for this one set. Not even for all Technic using adult themed sets, as building with all black pins and axles would be a nightmare. I know how generally confusing and requiring constant checking of the instructions early Technic was with its all black axles.
Yeah, In a way I get the Technic pushback, we’re just not used to a more Technic skewed set in the Icons range. I’m not a technic builder so it was tough to be so focused haha, but I also felt like the technic bits is what made this set so good…I also understand the colour codes, but it stands out like crazy against the black. Thanks for your insight into the Ornithopters, my thinking was the Bush one is smaller and a bit less risky, but I hear you.
@@DarkAnimalStudios You're welcome. I know another official ornithopter would be a long shot, but with the Part Two of Dune coming out, well I think it would put a nice bow on that and, with the experience of designing the first one, another one has all the chance of being more streamlined and adress the chief issues people have, and I'd love to see more minifigures of the villains and chief players from the second part of the movie.
However, I'm pretty certain that a Harkonnen ornithopter MOC will pop up on Rebrickable.
Seems there is certain desire for a Sandworm set but, personally, that would get little interest from me. I'm not against something like that coming out, of course, just not for me.
So, this set is for free, right?

While I respectfully disagree, I appreciate the feedback and will look at adding the price on the info screen perhaps. But generally I will not focus on the cost when reviewing the sets, but rather the builds themselves :)
