It had been nearly 10 years since I last played through FFX and boy, I have an even greater appreciation for what it tackles and how wonderfully it plays. Next up will finally be a Ys game, it'll be The Oath in Felghana and I'm pretty excited to play it. Thanks guys!
I've been on the fence about Oath In Felghana... and the older YS games because they're insanely hard. I played a bit of the PC Engine version of YS 3 and reached a point where the game just became impossible to progress for me. Also I don't know what to think about the whole Adol only thing, based on what I played of the PC version it seems like every YS game before YS SEVEN is a completely different game with completely different mechanics.
OK so before I press play can I ask is this a review or is it really a retrospective or analysis because I'm super sick of people mistakenly labeling things as reviews and ruining the experience for me. Haven't played FFX all I know about it is a Polynesian theme and there's a sport. I want to watch this video but am being cautious. EDIT: tried to wait for a reply but lasted 2 hours 😂. Was looking forward to hearing what you had to say but 2:48 you say play it first. Damn man, love your content but it's gotta be said that if you have to tell the audience to play the thing before watching your review then it is not a review. If your gonna trick my like this in future can you at least put a disclaimer at the top of the video before I'm invested? Or preferably not call it a review? Looking forward to the ys video.
That's fair - this one certainly falls more under the category of a retrospective than a review. Appreciate it man; though, I will say I take umbrage with the "trick" comment. This imples that it was intentional and it certainly wasn't.
@@HighLevelReviews oh man. I know you weren't intentionally trying to be misleading. I meant it in a tongue and cheek way sadly we don't have designated fonts for tone. Just showing how it can be interpreted, as a tactic to get views. If someone like myself googled a review pondering the switch port and a retrospective is among them, people could get the wrong idea and label your content as click baity (it ain't). The trick was purely to bring attention to this and the compounding issue of being invested in what you have to say before receiving the warning to play it first. I think it was effective in making its point but apologies for the underhanded tactic. I wish you the best. Your content is quality.
Great review, I'm glad to have found your channel in ResonantArc Twitter replies. I absolutely love the story, characters and world of FF X. But since I finished it last week for a Final Fantasy Marathon on my channel, I can also point that it has the worst collection of minigames of the entire FF franchise. Particularly the chocobo catcher, in which you can only change the direction pressing to the sides, with an uncontrollable camera, invisible walls that bounce your chocobo back into the birds that have homing capabilities, while trying to catch balloons with a poor depth perception and facing an opponent that can block your path and push you in the bird's path. I can't see someone playing that minigame (or the ones that precede it) purely for fun. What happened to the people that created Triple Triad in FF 8 and the bike minigame in FF 7?
First played this back in 2004, after playing the psx trilogy. My 12 year old brain was not ready for the epic and tear jerking story of ffx. Till this day it still holds up really well. Everything from the story, character, music, gameplay and graphics it holds up exceptional well.
I'm playing it again and trying to grind for the super-bosses, and revisiting previous locations just makes me want to start the game from scratch. The Tidus laugh scene is still one of my favorite in all forms of media despite the memery. Also, Tidus and Yuna in Macalania? Yes. Your review is much appreciated.
I remember hating this game probably 17 years ago when I first played it. It was wildly different from 6, 7, and 9 which were my favorite games at the time. Mostly I remember that I had rented it from our local Hollywood Video, got to that godforsaken Bevelle Temple trial and just returning it after probably 4 frustrating hours. I went back and played it years later only to have my mind absolutely blown. It took FFVI's spot as the best in the series in my heart and has stayed there ever since.
This game was so dope man, it was my first intro into FF and still my most favorite FF game in the franchise. I was still playing this game when the PS3 and multiplayer online games were the new hype. I logged at least 300+ hours on this game and then some for the remastered version. The soundtracks brings back good memories of my childhood. Dope review man
Great review! I just finished a complete replay of X and X-2 and loved it. The story and world is so interesting. Just have to pretend the audio drama never existed.
After playing most FF, FFX is still the best Final Fantasy game for me ! My favorite one featuring my favorite theme in the entire series (To Zanarkand) 😍.
I really did struggle to get through this game but the music kept me going and I'm proud I completed the game cause my skills had improve so much. I probably wouldn't have any issues if I played it again.
FFX was probably the last truly unique FF experience I can remember. 12 was fine, but I feel like it was the weakest Ivalice entry. 13 was where I felt like Square was losing their creative gumption, and 15 was rather underwhelming. The FF7 remake was great, but I consider it more of the same. As far as more JRP's to review, I think the Arc the Lad series would be interesting, along with Alundra, Galerians, or the earlier Tales Of games like Destiny/Eternia.
I used to like this game as a kid but nowadays I just think Square-Enix have milked it to death. I don't get why it received a sequel and that audiobook made a mockery out of the game, then I hear them wanting to make a X-3... no please don't Square-Enix!!! They should just let this game end already, a X-3 would be like giving this game the modern WOW treatment which would be terrible. I just think that the sequals and especially the audiobook ruined this game beyond repair, I can never see it the same way because of it, that audiobook left a shitstain on this game that will tarnish it forever.
Kind of late to the party, but would you consider this a good first FF game? if not, where would you recommend me to start? Ive been pondering this for a while now and I can't seem to choose as this series, more than any others, has such a vast ammount of favorites among the community Having a single third party(one that I trust the opinion of) choosing for me might make things easier for me lol
This is a question I've pondered for a bit. I love ff9 and because it's primary aim was to operate as a love letter to the series, I'd probably end up recommending it as a great entry point. 10 wouldn't be bad but I still feel you'd have a smoother, less divisive feel for the series with 9.
@@supdude982 oh i loooooove the moguri mod 100%. my review will be the default steam version (since i can't expect the moguri mod to be representative of most people's experience with it) but still...gotta experience that mod, it's gorgeous.
I loved this game when it originally came out, but over the years I've started to dislike the plot and characters quite a bit. It's not that the plot itself is bad, but changing the dialogue to match VA's personalities along with trying to match with the character model's mouth movements caused a lot of issues and amateurish sounding writing. Personally I would have preferred if they not worry about lip sync and delivered lines more naturally, but you know tons of people would have whined about that, even though it was the norm with voice acted RPGs at the time. I didn't mind the Cloisters so much back in the day, but in my most recent playthrough earlier this year, I couldn't wait to be done with them. Blitzball would be okay if it wasn't such a grind to unlock Wakka's ultimate weapon. Or was it an Overdrive? Can't remember because I didn't want to play that much blitzball. Aside from those gripes, combat is definitely the best in the series for me and the one reason I replay the game. Battles are as fast or slow as you want them to be, there's a decent amount of strategy, and I love how you can customize your Overdrive Gauge to charge a certain way. Plus controlling Aeons is a really cool feature. I was really quite bummed when I played X-2 and then XII and then XIII and realized that they would never revisit this fantastic combat system again. My most recent playthrough was with the PS4 remaster. Loved most of the changes to it. Being able to finally try out the Expert Sphere Grid was great, and I enjoyed most of the newly arranged tracks. One thing I didn't care for was the Dark Aeons. Tried going back to Besaid to get the last Sphere for Auron, and ran into Dark Valefor. It was clear after getting annihilated within 8 seconds that I would probably have to do like 20 hours of grinding to even stand a chance against him.
Nah the only bad thing about FF X is 100% the game, everything else are nitpicks. "Cringy"? FF X Cringy? People still don't understand the laugh scene after 20 years?
This "game" is so bad it's involuntarily comical. It's a very poorly-written visual novel disguised as a videogame. You occasionally press buttons here and there, but 99% of the time you're just reading a book written by a Japanese videogame designer who has no idea how to write. It looks like it was written by a demented 8-year-old.

To me the downfall began with this title.

I haven't. What is it? I think I've heard of it but never checked it out.
