So I guess I'll keep working by myself...the strong will survive 🤠

    The flange is machined and perfect. The pipe is 99% always egg shaped especially if it seamed pipe which starts out as plate.

      As some one who manufactures rolled tube . This is correct. Sub arc welding it also is tuff on how round it stays. I am working with a 9 ft dia of 3/16 and it almost collapses on its self.

    I have found that using a speedy cut disc works the best on a root pass, it takes care of lack of penetration and suck backs when cutting thru the root pass, it puts a new facing on the bevel also.

    i’ve never seen someone runs 1/8th so hot with such success. if it were me that motherf****** rod would fall right apart or burst into flames. i don’t understand. awesome 👏

  • @cowpow16
    @cowpow16 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I usually do tacks top and bottom if its rolled. Then I roll the pipe 90 degrees and make sure the flange is square in bot x and y axis. Seems some ppl don't know and get cut out repairs. Hope this helps someone

    Almost bending the rod. The flex. Nice tip when its tight turn the amps up. And to wiggle the rod im guessing to not get the rod stuck.

    • @anotherrandomtexan25
      @anotherrandomtexan25 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Alil bit that but when I do it it's to help the bead form on both sides of the bevel, the weld would usually want to "stick" to one side or the other and doing the side to side motion I've noticed really helps it to stay uniform. Had an old pipe welder tell me that and before would whip and pause but wouldn't always come out the best, started running like it with side to side and it really helped me!

    • @ZAEGAINS
      @ZAEGAINS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anotherrandomtexan25 yes also for me running to root it would stick and i had low amps bc the gap was 3/32 and i had a 1/16 land. So i found while dragging i would kinda wiggle it so it wouldn’t get stuck

  • @amirlach
    @amirlach 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Some welders would put a bridge tack on top when it was lined up. Then open the bottom to desired gap, tack the bottom. Then grind the small non pen tack on top. Larger diameter like this would be tacked at 4 and 6 before grinding the top tack. What this did was pin the flange or fitting in position for the second tack.
    It's hard to hold a larger fitting in position with a floating gap. The bridge tack pulls the bottom open slightly making it easy to gap. Once the bottom is firmly tacked in one or two spots. Grind out the bridge, which served to hold the high low in place. Then gap the top the same as the rest and you should be squared up.
    When I first seen it done I thought it was time consuming, but after doing it that way. Found it Saved fitup time.

    • @TheWeldProfessor
      @TheWeldProfessor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t wanna take any bigger of a gap to keep the square I just thinned it after the two tack and soaked it in on the other side this side was just a lil tight I don’t bridge tack and I don’t take big fits I’d rather thin then step

    Another fine video professor! I don't weld pipe but would love to have a go at some one just for fun. This morning I have welded a plate into a Rover 75 car that had a hole in it's inner wheel arch. Bean tin thickness of metal welded with Mig using bean tin Mig wire, in a large tent, on a 20degree slope on a customers driveway. You see, you guys in the States get all the fun jobs! keep em coming young man, I learn something from your videos that I can apply to some of my jobs too! Top regards, Jon in North Yorkshire, England.
    P.S. My guess for how many ripples around the pipe, 762.

      @@jadams1722 the fact you called it trash welding, i dont consider any pipewelding process trash, and his bead was soaked in pretty nice, it would pass from what i could see in that video and any of those codes, even sour code here in canada you can have minimal defect and will depend on pipe size, people often assume pipeline is more forgiving , but in all my years we have our z662 code which is pretty lax, but the client always adds to the code, i just tested to z662 on 42" but with all.the add ons from the client it was pretty much the same as our sour code which is pretty much zero bead defect but we could still have so much every foot, maybe i misunderstood you or just threw me off calling it trash welding!
