      yay! I hope it works well for you. I think I like the first way I did it best (following the cj's instructions first), cause if it turns out well right away, I don't have to mess with the brass scrubby. But if it doesn't turn out well, I can easily fix it. win-win!

    And no worries about the scrubby scratching the glass? The patina looks great btw.

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass

      No, I haven't noticed any scratching on the glass. A lot of stained glass shops sell these brass scrubbies as "patina buddies." You just want to rub lightly with them though anyways. I did a test on one of my Iridescent pieces of glass, rubbing as hard as I could, and no scratches appeared.

    Just beautiful! Do you have any tips on using black or copper patina on tinned wire? I can often get the patina to look good on a suncatcher but the tinned wire embellishments turn out a mess. Love your videos!

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass

      So I believe tinned wire is tinned with lead-free solder (don't quote me on that, but I swear I read that somewhere), and I've never had good luck patinating it. If I'm turning a piece copper, I use straight copper wire (no tinning), if I'm patinating a piece black, I either re-tin the tinned copper wire, or just tin my own copper wire.

    Beautiful! I couldn’t wait for this video to come out! I do think using the toothbrush instead of the cotton ball may have someth8ng to do with it also.

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass

      Interestingly, I've used the toothbrush initially before, and it sort of splashed the patina around causing little dark spots, but when I do toothbrush/patina/cj's together, it's fine. I've just about given up trying to figure out all the different variables 😅. At least I've found a method I'm 100% comfortable with - that makes me happy.

  • @SatoriDance

    I would think the brass scrubby is more abrasive than the toothbrush so it probably cleaned the surface more thoroughly? I'll have to try using the scrubby and soap for the cleanup before court patina and see how it goes 🤔

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass

      Definitely! I've also seen people use those brass wire brushes, but those freak me out, cause they look so harsh. lol

    excited to try cj's flux remover. I've been using kwik clean and I'm not getting great results. I do use lead free solder though so maybe that's why.
    I noticed your patina doesn't go dark first! I have to scrub mine in before it lightens up.
    Also can I use steel wool instead of brass or is it something about the brass?
    What does scrubbing flux remover do though? shouldn't it chemically neutralize the flux without scrubbing?
    Going to try your method tomorrow (soldering day)! Thank you!

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass

      You can use steel wool, I just find steel wool to be too messy, cause it sheds.
      Are you talking about when I scrub the flux remover with the toothbrush? You want to scrub it around with a brush, sponge, or cloth just to get any sticky flux residue off.
      Good luck trying this method, I hope it works for lead-free solder! 🤞🏻

    Does it have to be CJ's flux remover? Don't think we can get that in aus. I usually just scrub with dish soap and water, would that work just as well do you think?

    • @SamanthaAshleyGlass

      @@nickihuber-smith2329 you can certainly try it. I haven't experimented with other cleaning agents, but I think the important part is that the soap is cleaning while applying the patina.

      I'm not sure, I've used both hot and cold water with similar results. I've never had my patina turn black, but I have seen a TH-cam video of someone who's copper turned black, but they were able to turn it back to copper by buffing with the wax.
