You're welcome! Not with a creation like this but we recommend checking out the Reset Views button: th-cam.com/video/V9zT2WFkahE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=OneNumber-TableauExperts
Thank you for this! It was very helpful! I have the reset button created and working, but when I click it the first time, it does nothing and is highlighted blue. When I click it the second time, it resets the filters and the highlighting is removed. Any ideas?
Hey! The blue highlighter is annoying... it's there because Tableau sees the reset button as a worksheet, rather than a button. So here's a way around that! www.flerlagetwins.com/2020/07/14-use-cases-for-transparent-shapes.html?m=1
This is great! I would like to click the reset button and have nothing selected instead of everything selected. Why does clicking 'Exclude all values' not achieve this? And how do I achieve this?
Hey - good question. Technically, we're resetting the filter fields, rather than the filter action. You could definitely get Tableau to achieve this with a filter action by interacting with the sheet itself (you click on a state, it filters to the state, you click on your same state again, and the sheet disappears). But this reset button isn't great at that because it's a button that is build just to reset the filter menus, rather than the sheets themselves. So if you want everything to disappear, you could try to use DZV to achieve this, perhaps. Here's an example: th-cam.com/video/350YmFuRqrE/w-d-xo.html
Hi John! Thanks for checking this video out. Unfortunately, this approach won't clear worksheet selections. However, we've got a video dropping on Wednesday about the "Reset View" button that should help with your question!
I've been watching and enjoying all of your videos. This is a great feature, however, it doesn't seem to work on Wildcard filters. It clears everything else, but doesn't touch the wildcard filter. Any solution to clear ALL filters (including the wildcard filter)? Thanks!
Hey! The only way you can reset a wildcard filter with a button is with an extension. They're trickier because you want to specify that a blank value goes into the wildcard filter. It's technically not resetting it. So that's a shortcoming of this method I'm afraid! Tableau doesn't have a native way to do this, so we're limited by the available features.
@@onenumbertableau Thank you for the response! I appreciate the additional information. I found an extension for a filter reset, but it also was limited and unable to reset the wildcard filter. I'll keep looking and keep watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
Great video, thank you! What to do in a situations where I have a filter that flips between two graphs (e.g.: sales by week/ by period). I have Parameter (by week/ by period) Worksheet selection filter, and fields that go into it. I've tried everything but none of it resets this type of filter. Is there any way to do it? I'd appreciate any pointers, thanks!
Hey - you won't be able to reset the parameter selection using the reset filters button. Then, the reset filters button works best with dimensions. Measures can be buggy... so if you're trying to reset the measures using this, it might be choppy! But your end-users could use the reset dashboard button if they're viewing it on Tableau Cloud.
I think if you use a transparent hex code color, it won't show the blue highlight after being selected. That doesn't really change the fact that it is selected, but at least it looks a little better: www.flerlagetwins.com/2021/10/introducing-transparent-color-hex-code.html Otherwise, I'd probably direct people to the Revert/Reset button on Tableau Server and Tableau Public.
@@onenumbertableau Thanks so much for the response I’ll have a look. I noticed another way is to use custom shapes. For some reason it doesn’t show the ugly blue highlight when using custom shapes.
Hmm that's a good question! By default, I don't think this will work as I explained it in the video. But you could set up a second filter action for the filter you want to return to a particular value and perhaps you could indicate what value it should be in the Filter Action menu?
Hi, I have created a worksheet named "Filter by Prefix" and added COURSE_PREFIX( which is a calculated field) to be true in the filter section. In the dashboard I have followed exact same steps and created a RESET button. After clicking the RESET button, the filter COURSE_PREFIX in the worksheet " Filter by Prefix" is changing back to "ALL". Can you please tell me what to do?
Hey! Good question - have you tried editing the filter action and removing the COURSE_PREFIX field from the "fields to filter" at the bottom of the action? Maybe that could help!
Hello! How can I remove the filters when, for example, the map is also a filter? That is, the map filters the dashboard, but I want to reset the filters, including the map that is also a filter.
Hey! The key here would be to show the action filter (from the map) instead of adding a second dimension-filter for the map. You could click on a sheet that's being filtered by the map, hit the dropdown, go to filters, and select the action filter linked to the map. It should display as a normal filter. Then you might be able to link up the reset button to this field! Let us know if it works!
Hey! As far as we've seen, this could be because there are multiple fields that you could select (like multiple date fields). Alternatively, it could just be because there are fields in the view that aren't linked to the reset filter!
WAs facing the same issue. The solution, incase anyone needs it is to go to a sheet fight click filters that say all using this data source and then click on selected worksheets. You need to deselect the 'reset all filters' sheet from there. It should work. :)
Hi, want to divide single bar in 4 equal half such as 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. And display count of measures falling in each part. Is it possible to make such viz? ( the size of all 4 parts should remain constant, only the Text value of measure will change)
Hi there, I don't understand why you left "Keep filtered values" selected in the "Target Sheets" box. Don't you want to toggle to "Show all values" to reset the filters? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the purpose of the "Clearing the selection will:" options. Can you clarify? Thanks! Target Sheets Clearing the selection will: -Keep filtered values -Show all values -Exclude all values
Hey! Good question! It's because the filtering is happening when we click the button and not afterwards. So after we deselect the button (click on the button again), we want Tableau to keep all the restored values we've just specified. You could probably select "show all values" and it would still work. But that's the short answer!
@@onenumbertableau Hey! Thanks for answering. My reset button wasn't resetting the filters. I already fixed it and it was tricky. I had to right-click on each of the filters, then go to "Apply to Worksheets", then click on "Selected Worksheets", and then unselect the "Reset Button" worksheet.
