    Well done Blake. Am pleased to be one of your 100,000 subscribers. I was going to get one of those Diety mics. You’ve talked me out of it.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The mic is great for traditional cameras but currently not for smartphones. Works fine but you don’t get the advantage of the dual front & rear mics - hopefully they’ll create an adapter that will make it work though!

  • @firstranger7282
    @firstranger7282 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    What you need to make it great with smartphones is Saramonic SR-C2000 cable for iPhone or SR-C2001 cable for iPad/Android.
    Both cables are stereo and plug-n-play too. Which means the moment you plug it in Filmic Pro will switch to external mic.

    • @iphoneographers

      Have heard of those but haven’t tried one. Will check it out, thanks!

      I bought the Saramonic SR-C2000 3.5mm TRS to Lightning Adapter Cable and I can confirm that it works with the Deity D4 DUO and both mics work! Thank you for this comment! My only issue now is trying to figure out how to separate the audio into two files

    • @RajhaneJAking
      @RajhaneJAking 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iphoneographers Because of both your comments, I actually bought both and tested to see if it would work and it DID! Thank you both. I just need help figuring out how to separate the audio file into two files so I can get the front and back mic into different files instead of one file

      Thanks so much for this comment. I had my heart set on this mic to use with my phone but then I got sad when I saw this review and thought, surely there must be an adapter. But perhaps because it's such a surprisingly uncommon use-case, none of the usb-c dongles seemed to clearly advertised whether they can handle stereo audio input. You saved me so much hassle. Just tried mine and can confirm that it works. Thank you again!

    There is a workaround with the smartphone situation. I plug my RODE VideoMicro into the Deity HD-TX. It will allow you to record with the front and back capsule. It’s ultra portable, and budget friendly with great, ultra low noise preamps. The whole setup would cost about $350. Not bad, considering my Sennheiser 416 cost me $1,000😒😂

    I might be wrong but it should be dual mono (single front + single back) and the stereo is front capsule only.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that’s right and the reason there were quotes around “Stereo” and “Mono” as wasn’t sure what the name of the switches were (this is a pre-release mic with no instructions). Will say the front capsule didn’t seem like stereo though. Planning some more testing and comparing to other similar mics.

    • @DimplePoji
      @DimplePoji 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iphoneographers that's hard to figure out with no instructions. I would thought the single is mono without the instructions

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interestingly too the front mic isn’t true stereo as I’ve since learned. It does record two tracks, but their identical (just panned left & right) and so really it’s more what I’d typically call dual mono. Either way it’s got some cool functionality and would probably recommend using it with both mics (front + rear) most of the time anyway. 👍🏻

  • @ScottyInVancouver

    for iPhone what cable need for deity? Also, can you use Rode wireless go for front mic and just rotate the deity front mic to person behind the camera ?

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TRS to TRRS with a Lightning adapter. Currently there’s no way with a phone to get discrete tracks (without using a go between device).

    • @ScottyInVancouver
      @ScottyInVancouver 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      iPhoneographers so with Rode wireless Go would be great combination then?

      Don’t know about Rode, but wouldn’t be surprised if they release a V2 that allows for two mic recording into one receiver. That’s the trend now with Comica and Hollyland LARK 150 (btw, these are very good - did a video on them, too).

    I couldn't get it to work at all with my Samsung Note 10+, even with the Samsung DAC adapter and TRS-TRRS cable. I tried it with my last phone (LG G7), which still has a headphone jack. Both channels work this way.

    Oh, thank you soooo much!! I do tend to grab my note9 too often for impromptu vids. It's good to know this may not work! I'm not sure if it will work with my budget ThiEye T5e action camera then either? I'll stick with the mics I have now then. This really helped!
    I may consider it for the future for my camera, but for now, it's not necessary then.

    I'd rather use a multi input preamp. Currently have the Centrance R4R with two XLR inputs, gain control, built in recorder and headphone preamp for monitoring incoming sound before it goes to its source. The preamp is really clean making it ideal for setup with midrange mic. It's also portable and can be used for attaching to person with lav mic making it a cheaper way to get "wireless" sound and just add in sound in post later. Personally, I'd rather go that route than this mic trying to be an all in one but not able to get the basics down with a smartphone.

    • @iphoneographers
      @iphoneographers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that’s a good way to go. More gear involved so it really just depends on what you’re trying to do.
