I have this one and several other Kukris from Cold Steel. They have made them in various sizes and weights. Every one is a master piece for its individual price. They have several kinds that are very affordable. I think one of the Cold Steel Kukris is only $30. You won't believe the practicality until you have one in your hand. No one beats Cold Steel.
Watching your video was like a religious experience for me. The sheer beauty of that CS SMIII Gurkha Kukri had my jaw dropped, talking to myself of its perfection in everyway. The thickness of the spine, the lustre, the razor edge,sheer bliss to behold. I had spent a yr seeking the best knife in the world,it led me to this kukri, no! sk5 will NOT do, this video made that clear. My same research led me to the G10EspadaXL as the best folder, which I now own.The SM3 GK WILL be MINE! Gr8 vid bro :)
Hello, Maybe you should do a ten years after video. I'd be interested to see how the knife is holding up. I have a recon tanto from 1997 in carbo V. It's still an awesome knife and I use it all the time hunting and camping.
I recently parted with this beauty, got an offer that i couldn't refuse. Traded for 2 busse knifes, FMV8 AND FMV14! Didn't know SMIII kukri got so expensive that i got 2 new busse knifes for it. Still own quite a few CS blades and absolutely love them, still think they are the best knifes for money today.
thank you! one for $30 was kukri machete im sure and its made out of 1055 carbon steel, comes with not so sharp but nice utility edge, which you can find some torture test videos on it and it held up amazingly! for $200 it has to be sk-5 steel version which is really great lot thicker than 1055 carbon one and comes razor sharp, one i have is $400 SMIII sandwiched steel from Japan, it has stupid sharp convexed edge and this kind of grind has less friction when you cut with it so its very smooth
The Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri is next on my list of knives to buy but it probably won't be the San Mai version. Strictly a cost issue. The Nepalese knives are very nice looking but since you can't know what the steel is for sure, I consider them to be display knives. If you intend to put your blade to work, go with the Cold Steel. The web is full of videos showing these knives taking a real beating in the real world and they hold up very well. They are also an awesome self defense weapon.
I have to admit, I've always wanted to get Cold Steel's Gurka Kukri and Natchez Bowie for a long time. When I saw your videos on both of them, I got jealous of you. But now I have them both and I couldn't be happier. Awesome vids brother, keep up the good work👍👍
You are so lucky. My only seller here in my strict country only left with the kurkri plus o1 steel version. I do have the recon tanto both san mai 3 and cpm 3v...simply awesome beauty of metals and they are damn SHARP!!
Over here, for the 2 recon tantos, i got my san mai at around 15usd cheaper than the cpm 3v. So when i purchased the kukri, i was actually looking for san mai version but as a novice to steel, i got to research another steel which is O1 steel. Although most probably i wont even use these blades, u know its kinda guys thing like women love bags lol
Nice knife. I've commented on Natchez Bowie in VG1 vs Kukri VG1. I own Natchez Bowie VG1 and can honestly say the grip on my Bowie has multiple hand position as the Kukri VG1 can only be held in one grip thus increasing the chances of being beaten in a knife fight. The Natchez Bowie is by far the ULTIMATE FIGHTING KNIFE. PERIOD!
@Aynarchist True, but the SK5 has a hollow grind whereas the SMIII comes with a convex edge which bites deeper when chopping in and doesn't get stuck as often as the SK5 versions. I mean it's only a subtle difference, as they're both incredible weapons.
Well i had a chance to hold both versions in my hand and decide, it was no brainer for me because SMIII has convexed edge which is far better than any grind, easier to sharpen in the field. for me it was worth every penny, still is my favorite knife i have!
@Jascias First off, true bladesmiths will never refer to a convex grind as a rolled edge (a rolled edge is what occurs when the edge is misaligned through use). It does have everything to do with the VG-1 core; and a convex edge is much more resistant to chipping than a flat beveled edge. Steel ductility and toughness determines if an edge will chip; you can beat properly tempered L6 and S7 on metal all day, but it will never chip, especially with a convex edge.
@89alreadytaken Hi again. Congrats on the tiger claw knife. Should be amazing in a tactical situation. Right now I am eyeing a Rajah 2. Thinking of having the Fitzen serration done on it.
@Aynarchist Very nice. Fallkniven make some awesome blades, very wise choice. As far as picking up a slack belt grinder, I know some guys get good deals on blanks in bulk and making a ton but it's not really my cuppa. I personally prefer the enjoyment of collecting and utilizing my blades over watching sparks fly, but to each his own ; ) Hope you find some good deals and enjoy your time in beautiful Sweden m8.
well one of my friend who just made it to Marine Recon carries this for Combat/Utility he said it stands up pretty damn well i had to parafrase that because what he said took about a paragraph of 4letter words hopefully when i get out of bootcamp i can make it to recon
Hello, how is the blade going now. Particularly the handle. I have the cold steel recon tanto for 25 year's and trail master for 8 yrs. I've never had any issues, but I was wondering how your blade is going now.
@bobjoemagee i used it on trees ones and not even a scratch on it! it shaves hair like it did before. i think i'm gonna keep this on my side and use my cold steel shovel to do choping and digging from now on. if big animal tries to attack then ill use this on natchez :)
is it worth paying 2-3x more for the san mai steel? i don't want to fork out $500 for san mai steel if i can get the SK-5 version for $180 and it's not much worse...
@recurveninja yes i was surprised too! all cs knives i have they have v edge, double beveled edge or chisel edge but amazingly this is convexed edge and this knife is sharper than not only any knife i own(including natchez bowie) but any knife i held in my hands i often think that all of them are not made this sharp!
Man that thing is beautiful. Nice cutting too. I really really want to pick one of these up but damn they're expensive. By chance have you seen or had any experience with the CS gurkha kukri plus in O1 steel?
@hobbitg3 Priceless! ; ) It is the .500 S&W Magnum of edged/melee weapons, and I mean ALL edged/melee weapons, including swords. Its' capabilities are well documented and second to none. If Wolverine didn't have claws he'd wield this ; )
I don't know how the cold steel makes khukuri. But in Nepal it's made by hand not machine. People in Nepal cut off pigs with Khukuri just in a single swing even other animals like buffalo.. Check it out on youtube..
@blacktarherione well thing called camping is good idea!!! i have this or natchez bowie for meat only, for chopping wood and for digging i have CS shovel and it works like a charm!!!
@Jascias Nothing stainless is good for a heavy chopper; but VG-1 is particularly brittle for a stainless even at mid HRC. I find that VG-1 is significantly more brittle than S30V, due to S30V's higher molybdenum content, as well as a high vanadium content (which VG-1 lacks). Cold Steel's SK-5 blades make much better survival knives, particularly in wood processing; they are also in the realm of acceptability when it comes to pricing. But 'best knife money can buy', you can bet it won't be a CS.
If you find the that San Mia kukri interesting , you should learn about the man that gave cold steel the measurement for it . He is the American Bando grandmaster .!
@WW2Fanatic1000 no issues with any cold steel i have!... specially this one is amazing!!! san mai iii is holding up amazingly!!! i think i will not buy any other steel than smiii

I agree, for the money you can't beat cold steel blades.
Way to give that XL Espada its little cameo role! all gorgeous knifes, you must have real taste.

@@lexousa I don't think CS makes the Kukri in SMIII anymore.
@@pasta759 I know, that's why dude paid almost 1k for it, Absolutely loved smiii kukri but, for that kind of money i couldn't say no.
@@lexousa it's still a great video. And your passion for the knife was awesome. Hope you are safe and well during these crazy times. Cheers
yea buddy slo mo makes everything look great!that is one beautiful knife.

Thanks Lex, I've been using Kuk's for over thirty years now and I rate the San Mai 3 as one of the best blades to get swinging with. ;)
Indeed it is :) thanks for watching!
It looks pretty cool and I'm getting a twin set
10" and the sheath goes on your back.
Pretty sweet!
the VG1-San Mai III Kukri is out standing thanx for the video man , i got alot of cold steel knife
but still didnt got the kukri
Excellent comparison dude to the ones from Nepal. Thanks for sharing.
Great Review; I was practically drooling over the blade. Thanks!

STOP TEASING ME, I CANT TAKE IT ANY MORE. its too good. i will get one soon. good video

dx694life glad to hear that! they are gorgeous blades!

What U know bout this blade shortsweed 😊
u wont regret :) its gonna be little hard to cross that barrier to put this beauty to work but after that its just great!
@Aynarchist True, but the SK5 has a hollow grind whereas the SMIII comes with a convex edge which bites deeper when chopping in and doesn't get stuck as often as the SK5 versions. I mean it's only a subtle difference, as they're both incredible weapons.
I have the SK5 version. Awesome! I love it. If you don't have one get one.
san mai iii is a nice balance of strength and flexibility , there was diffently thought in the construction of that metal.
The handle is still solid after 12 years?
Sold it and it never really saw extreme use, so I can't give you useful answer.
I love how the third blade epicly echoes when he sinks it into the table. THE KUKRI HAS SPOKEN!
Well i had a chance to hold both versions in my hand and decide, it was no brainer for me because SMIII has convexed edge which is far better than any grind, easier to sharpen in the field. for me it was worth every penny, still is my favorite knife i have!

That is insanely sharp
very nice man.one day.

Muy buenas hojas 👍

you dont have to spend lot of time to find videos about cold steel knifes getting used out in the woods or other places... CS makes amazing blades!
Sweet blade! How do you sharpen the edge bro?
Hello, how is the blade going now. Particularly the handle. I have the cold steel recon tanto for 25 year's and trail master for 8 yrs. I've never had any issues, but I was wondering how your blade is going now.
Still going strong, :)
@TheBlacksmithJosh ok thing is every tool has its purpose and what do you want to use this knife for?
very good i have one and a trail master san mai too!
nice video, thank you for that.
the kukris from nepal are pretty good.
You are some really lucky man
@aTellerOfTruths very cool! u are teller of truth ;)
@bobjoemagee i used it on trees ones and not even a scratch on it! it shaves hair like it did before. i think i'm gonna keep this on my side and use my cold steel shovel to do choping and digging from now on. if big animal tries to attack then ill use this on natchez :)
How are you planning to carry it? vertical on your hip? if you are planning to scarry it at all that is :)
is it worth paying 2-3x more for the san mai steel? i don't want to fork out $500 for san mai steel if i can get the SK-5 version for $180 and it's not much worse...
@worldmann900 what is your main use for kukri that cs could not handle it?
@recurveninja yes i was surprised too! all cs knives i have they have v edge, double beveled edge or chisel edge but amazingly this is convexed edge and this knife is sharper than not only any knife i own(including natchez bowie) but any knife i held in my hands i often think that all of them are not made this sharp!
Great song use in the slow motion cutting portion of your video. What is the name of that song?
Mr Scruff - Get a Move On
Would you mind sharing the name of the song in this video?
Thanks for the review.
it holds up fine! lot easier to sharpen it in extreme conditions because it has convexed grind
Man that thing is beautiful. Nice cutting too. I really really want to pick one of these up but damn they're expensive. By chance have you seen or had any experience with the CS gurkha kukri plus in O1 steel?
Awesome video, bro! I want one of these SOOO bad! Nice blade! And what's the folding Kukri that you have there? What brand/make/model? Thanks!
cold steel rajah II
@OurChaosInMotion thank u for an awesome comment :)
Yeah, like I said, it was probably just a bunch of anti cold steel jerks from some forum somewhere. lol I'll order one, thanks for the reply.
That's some SICK jug slicing!! I subbed and I want that blade!! Haha
Vell done !! ✌😎
A plus blade no matter what steel Cold Steel uses, that Nepalis one is garbage.
wow the san mai 3 is really expensive man! lucky you
@uddoss thank u for your comment. i appreciate that very much!!!
which came sharper this or your nachaz bowie.
at 10:09 the kukri on the top i just purchased one like that from ebay it has a bit of surface rust what can i do to get it back to original condition
@kawala006 yea its an awesome knife!!! you will NOT go wrong!!!
@thiizzman510 well do u own any other shotgun? if yes than get kukri because it is the best blade on the market!!!
@lexousa Really? That's incredibly sharp for a convex.
@WW2Fanatic1000 no its not full tang and you can find this for 350+ship on ebay or some other website!
@20tom09gt spyderco tri-angle sharpmaker is awesome sharpener!!! i use it and i'm very happy with it!
@worldmann900 so you have SMIII kukri or sk5?
@xXCampbell10Xx natchez is sharp but kukri is scary sharp!!! i have seen many knifes and this is the sharpest i have ever seen!!!
@carlyle0229 mostly 1095 spring steel! with convex edge grind
Coldsteel is very goods
@AmmonIsTheWhat that is a pretty good compliment for this knife :)...
I MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!
What is the handle construction? Is it full tang?
@jigariguruli xo chito!!! :)
Hi,
What is the name on the song played in the end please.
Thanks
@HiCapacity holding up great! :)
@worldmann900 then its was not san mai because san mai version is convexed like original kukris!
@warriorofsteel01 im very happy with this one!
Found one very similar to this one at the giftsFromNepal store that sold some genuine handmade ones, pretty neat. Came across lots of fakes online.
Shit this is the knife I looking for and thank you with the review man you gave me the full details
@TaskForceSixTwoSix thanks bud!
@carlyle0229 it is bit pricey and you have to get whatever appeals you :)... you have to like a knife design wise to enjoy it 100%
@worldmann900 flat?, convexed? edge type.
@MrTroubleSnake thanks... mouse pad and sand paper :)
@AntebellumOg yes indeed it can... with no effort!!!
how do you sharpen it ??
Was thinking of the SK-5 steel model. I don't see the advantage of the San Mai steel for the money, I could be wrong.
@akkadej thank you!!!
@lexousa Me neither but I have some in the drawer just in case! ;)
@Jascias Nothing stainless is good for a heavy chopper; but VG-1 is particularly brittle for a stainless even at mid HRC. But 'best knife money can buy', you can bet it won't be a CS.
I am waiting on mine--carbon steel--three more days to wait--It's killing me--lol
Lots of fake ones online, I purchased mine - one just like this at a website called giftsfromnepal, was pretty pleased with the overall experience.
Its lighter than you expected because it is not the local or the original nepalese khukri.
Which one was that razor sharp one
Cold steel kukri is sharpest!
@recurveninja actually smiii kukri is convexed edge! :) not sk5
@capcon6 thank you!
@teknofil007 thank you very much!
