Maybe try to land with your fifth metatarsal first, and then displace the force and deformation towards your first metatarsal until you have to propulse again with your first and second metatarsals to start the next stride. I had this exact problem when I first started running barefoot and I made the mistake of always landing with the first and second metatarsals first. The little toes of the foot work in a similar fashion to a double wishbone suspension.
