The old "mental health programs" are one of the few things in life that legitimately terrify me. My criminal justice teachers loved having me in class, because any time one of the other students brought up pleading insanity as an easy way out, I would immediately go pale, and then they would have me explain why that was a terrible idea. Even with all that, you still managed to relax me as well as freak me out a little. 10/10 Would spooky again. :D
+Jackknife I'm in a psychology master's program and we discuss that subject too often. The insanity defense is only a good idea if the defendant legitimately has a serious issue. Even Antisocial personality disorder isn't really a good reason because its so difficult to even see an ounce of improvement and most times the patients don't want treatment anyway. Its often sad because some people who are sick often actually know right from wrong but are psychotic and the courts won't allow them to use the insanity defense when they could actually use it to get help.
+Siobhan O'Connell All very true. The idea is to get the right people the right help/rehabilitation. And IF you don't actually have a mental disorder but somehow manage to convince the court appointed analyst that you DO, congratulations! You now have a permanent misdiagnosis, and the medication and "therapy" (read as experimentation depending on time period) that they use will probably mess with your brain chemistry to the extent of CREATING a mental disorder. All in all, the insanity defense has been severely misrepresented by the media. :D I missed talking shop like this.
I remember my Child Psychopathology class had a big discussion about Andrea Yates and we basically came to the conclusion that her husband should have been jailed because he encouraged/coerced her into stopping her medication even though he had been explicitly told she had chronic psychosis with violent thoughts as well as didn't make sure she had someone helping her take care of the kids at the time. He had also been told she should not have anymore children after like the third of the five in order to prevent Post-Partum Psychosis and he instead stopping allowing her to have birth control.
+Siobhan O'Connell In the very least he should have been charged either as an accessory or with negligent homicide in the first place for aiding in creating that environment. It's hard to create precedent for things like that though. Paternalism is a dangerous line to walk. I always imagine how angry/defeated the police who work on those types of cases feel.

As someone who has been in and out of Pysch wards since I was five and has been diagnosed with BPD, BP type 2, OCD, ADHD and an On and off eating disorders. This is a really good represention of what it is like to have a serious mental illness good job like for real I dont ever say that but thos is really well done . 💚💚💚💚💚

+megamike15 Maybe the nurse didn't want to escalate the situation. Thought that the patient would get bored or get distracted so she thought she'd just go with it until then but then the patient took it a step further with the straitjacket.
i figured the nurse was incapacitated somehow from the get go.
