In the instance where Norwegians use TROR, in English we would use BELIEVE.

exactly!! That's easier to remember actually. Synes -- think; Tro -- believe.

Finally someone that can explain tiny differences to me. I’m currently learning Norwegian and I’m German, so I picked the general things up pretty fast, but when I ask my friends „why do you say it like this and not like that?“ they usually just stare at me because they’ve never thought about it 😂 jeg skal se på alle dine videoer nå fordi jeg tror du har en kjempekult kanal 🙌🏻 i hope that was correct and ha det bra!

Hi! I'm just a native speaker and no teacher, but I would also like to add that the verb "tror" can also be used to express convinced beliefs, for example religious ones. You often combine it with the prepositions "på" or "at".
"Hun tror på Gud." = She believes in God.
"Jeg tror på det Martin fortalte meg." = I believe in what Martin told me.
"Du tror (på)* meg, sant?" = You believe me, right?
"Jeg tror (at)* han snakker sant." = I think/believe he speaks the truth."
"Han har troen på deg." = Literally "He has the belief in you". Means you believe in someone and their abilities.
*in these cases, using på/at is optional.
Flott video, Karense :) Har ei vennine frå Amerika som skal komme å besøkje meg i Bergen no i sommar, og videoane dine har hjelpt ho mykje! Ho brukar dei til å lære seg litt norsk før ho kjem hit :)

In german, we have "glauben" (believe) for tror and "finden" (in this case it means "to be of the opinion, that") for synes. I'm just glad norwegian and german are very closely related to each other, so I already know many concepts, because they are just the same in german. Too bad that there seem to be so few online courses that teach norwegian from german. It's quite a challenge to learn it from english, because I constantly have to translate concepts into german on my own. "Well, how would we say this in german..."
But on the other hand, it helps me to get involved with norwegian. I have to think about the meaning and discover something new about my own language nearly every day.

I believe there is a similar difference between "I think" and "I believe" in English, but it's not as strong. Both can imply doubt, and both can be used to express an opinion. Hmm...
