If you are a chad, radar Memetaur enjoyer, Brisbane is slightly different but not necessarily worse or better. Go for it 100%.
Its way safer playing Brisbane cos you have longer range torps and radar.

Brisbane is pretty good even without division. Great torps, HE, radar, Hydro. ASW on subs, superheal, good AA. Wooster has better DPM but it does not have 16 torps on 13.5km...

I'm writing at 1.09 of the video but I have to say something now. He just said Brisbane has decent AA. I have my Brisbane at a 100 AA rating with continuous damage so strong that it's 400 more than my second best ship Almirante grau which I got to a 99 rating. If Brisbane is only decent then no ships have good AA. I don't have the numbers in front of me but what he should have said is Brisbanes AA is fucking legendary.
The fact that live in the city of Brisbane, makes it so much more satisfying that its a pretty good ship
When I started playing the game I loved the Edinburgh as that's my home city.
I grew up in Brisbane and now live at the Gold Coast. The Brisbane was an insta buy.

There is still a balance, in my opinion, of having strong AA cruisers without it being a total no-fly zone... but it should at least be able to stop a multi-plane attack, or follow-up attack aircraft.
Most players are not good enough for the Brisbane, and I am sad to see them on my team, because I know they will blow up fast.

I'd like to see Spotting/Dog Fighting Planes in the que that can't actually attack ships.. but could spot and kill other planes.
I am a CL main but still struggling with Brisbane. I was never good with radar Mino so that explains a lot. Worcester is one of my best ships but she is a lot more durable than Brisbane. I have Worcester built for AA and she can defend herself but I haven't tried this yet on Brisbane. Still really like her but yeah, I lack the situational awareness to be in open water with her.
I've gotten good with it recently. It feels stronger in ranked, but the main thing is trigger discipline and good torp aim/positioning.
Try not to be open water spotted at all when BBs are about. Much like Mino, it's very vulnerable and not particularly fast.
I'm a cruiser guy myself with a addiction to light cruisers as well, but Brisbane is not a really good ship in my opinion. Sure, you can have a lot of impact with that radar but in the end i want high damage numbers and i really can't aim with torpedoes so a lot of potential is lost when i play this ship xD
Yeah I main CLs a fair amount, I've got all the T10 CLs I believe. But Brisbane for me was really disappointing, I got it because I love radar Minotaur and hoped it would play similarly but I've found Brisbane plays closer to a yodo with 12km radar. If you're not hitting torps the damage is really underwhelming, plus the longer reloads make leading harder, and as mentioned above you can't play open water against BBs easily because of the 16mm armour, unlike San Martin, Colbert or Plymouth which have trolly citadels and shrug off BB AP most of the time.

The way I would put it: AA defense is pretty good, but more than offset by vulnerability to damage from strikes.
The issue with brisbane is the bulk of it's AA damage is within 4km. I run an AA build brisbane and I shred planes with the continuous damage constantly except russian cv. Though I do lose some dpm, the dpm on the ship is honestly not good enough to matter too much. Otherwise, I agree with everything else you have said.
I play the Brisbane with an almost full AA build. Let the carriers try, I have always enjoyed the results so far.

I have more than enough coal to get this boat, but I feel that you have to be really good in the radar Mino in order to do well in the Brisbane. I never do well in the radar Mino, so I won´t be getting this boat.
It’s not like every ship ever put to sea had great or even good AA. I don’t understand why there’s so much complaining about CVs, whether I’m playing one I find my air groups get slaughtered so easily and when I’m up against them I don’t typically struggle like all the content creators seem to talk about. Once in a while I take some ridiculous damage, especially ridiculous though is AP bombers hitting a DD for 3/4 hp. Idk I can’t think of a single game that’s perfectly balanced so I guess I don’t get as frustrated by this stuff because I don’t have the illusion that it’s something achievable.
One thing I was really dissapointed with Brisbane was that the torps are not the British style that can be fired singly. Makes no sense given other commonwealth vessels have that capability and that historically commonwealth ships were essentially Brit ships - up until the 70s or 80s in the case of the RAN.

Brisbane is what the tech tree Commonwealth line should have been. Full glass cannon, no armour, no smoke, superheal, stealth torps and 12km radar from T8. Biggest feast or famine line in the game.
Instead we got the good ole' overmatch food - no spotting - no game impact combo that WG seems to want every cruiser player to suck up.

There is no armor on this ship. It's made of paper and hits like a wet noodle.
Not that popular in cbs tbh, it would eat citadels from every cruiser & the BB, with 2 bbs in upcoming season cruisers will feel alot less threatening.
You misunderstand how busted it can be to radar at 11 kms and just get lit up without being able to spot back, the torpedoes are nothing to scoff at either single fire and 13.5kms of range

Napoli is better right now. Yesterday I did around 180k demage in randoms and 100k was from secondaries (I run full secondary build)..it is very strong. But Brisbane is also very good ship.
I think Napoli has a much lower skill floor. You will not regret Napoli.
I mention this because I have several objectively good ships which I haven't learned well enough to make them work.

Brisbane has the same weakness that every cruiser. Even if angled, it can takes really hard citadel from BB and heavycruiser. And its shots being rather straight, it cannot be played behind an island like pussy jinan.

Here we are again. Complaining about CVs in a ship with the best AA for its tier. PQ you shot down 51 planes vs the Nakhimov and 42 vs the Malta. In the Nakhimov game, You were the focus because your entire team never crossed the F or E line until the end of the match. Nakhimov has slow planes that take time getting around the map. You were up front and center and the closest target. You have the best range on both of your sets of AA guns (6.9km for long and 4km for mid), with the highest mid range damage of the tier of any cruiser at tier X. I am so tired of you constantly saying that every good AA ship you review doesn't have good AA. As far as I can tell, if you can wipe or almost wipe a whole squad, even after they attack, the ship has good AA.
RTS had a lot of problems, namely how 1 CV can 100 to 0 any ship, AA damage was random and inconsistent (i.e. AA ships could do low damage rolls constantly whereas a ship with shit AA could shoot down whole squadrons randomly), the skill floor for playing CVs was so astronomically high that if your team had a CV noob and faced a veteran Saipan player, they would de-plane your teams CV in the first 5 minutes, leaving you with a completely useless, dead weight teammate.
That is not good game balance.
Every player from the RTS days likes to put on those rose tinted glasses because CVs were a rarity. A whole ship class that was so hard to learn to play, that no one played it. So no one had to deal with them most of the time. And the ones that did, would single handedly win the entire game by dev-striking one ship at a time, de-planed or ever sniped the enemy CV, and spotted the entire goddamn map, so the match was usually over quickly.
I can at least commend that you mention the way to deal with CVs: mitigate their attack runs as much as possible. I would add that if you keep the focus of CV for a whole match, you waste their most precious resource: time. If 1 CV wastes their time on 1 ship for a whole match, they are not doing other things, like spotting other sides of the map, striking easier targets, striking low health targets, resetting caps, etc. Yeah it's not fun to be badgered by a CV for a whole match, and I would argue that if you get an AA defense expert medal, you should get a good deal of XP and credits. Still, you have to remember that this is a team based game: if one of the most powerful ship classes can't kill 1 cruiser for a whole match, they committed nothing to the match other than waste planes.
I can also commend that you realize that pushing up and being aggressive leads to you getting focused in the passive high tier meta. High tier meta problems aside (which is a whole can of worms that I won't get into), Island camping is very very risky these days, and rarely a good strategy unless the enemy team comp allows for it. It's far better to realize that the strategy you try doesn't work and have to learn to adjust and adapt to be a better player. Can't say the same about a lot of players, who just want the same old boring gameplay loop and never want things to change and just want to do the same strategies, not realizing that one strategy will not always work in a strategic game like World of Warships.
Lastly, I do not think we should return to the age of no fly zone ships. It is not balanced no matter what way you try and put it. Technically, no ship in the game has the power to fend off an entire strike wave anyways. That's by game balance and design: there is at least a chance for a CV to get one attack off on a lone ship. This is why CVs target flanks with light amount of ships: the more ships around a target ship, the more flak and AA damage you take at one time. You attack one ship, you only have one ship worth of flak you need to dodge, and one ship worth of AA dps you have to worry about ticking down your flight's hp.
Plus a thing on plane regen: most CVs regen about 1 to 0.5 planes per minute. So realistically they can get 20 to 10 extra planes per match of one squadron type. They generally have a third of a squad on deck, so if you wipe a fresh squad, they have to rotate to another squadron type or send out like, 5 planes instead of 9. There are obviously exceptions to to this, as ships like Kaga, Enterprise, and Malta have faster plane regen and larger reserves, but generally, the high end par is 20 extra planes per a full lived match (20 minutes) of each squadron type. Besides this, the new USN support carriers DO have infinite planes in the form of tactical squadrons, they're just on really long cooldowns (~2 minutes), but these support carriers ordnance already do less damage the most strike carriers plus do not have the benefit of being guaranteed a strike due to the attack flight being the entire attack flight like russian carriers planes, so the more planes shot down on the initial attack the less damage the attack will do with no potential for follow up due to it being a one and done strike.
If you REALLY want a no fly zone ship, play Halland, Smalland, Friesland, Groningen or Ragnar. Those have cruiser levels of AA without the drawback of having air detection linked to their long range AA range. So that way you can surprise an unsuspecting CV that is flying by only to essentially step on what I like to call "An AA seamine", since that's what it feels like. Plus these ships have no citadels, are very small targets, very maneuverable, and have repair party to trade any damage they take. Cruisers do not have any of these advantages (bar having more HP and repair partry), and it's why cruisers are not the queens of AA anymore. Some of the super-ship cruisers maybe, but until then, everything I just mentioned makes the pan euro DDs the best AA ships in the game by the game's balance and current rules.
TLDR: Brisbane has really good AA for its tier and class, and PQ is as always, rambling about how RTS CVs were somehow good, when they were horribly unbalanced and were changed for the better. If you want AA ships, play high tier Pan euro DDs because the game's design makes them the best AA ships in the game.
Also, sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of PQ constantly complaining about CVs and saying things that are not true about CVs and their mechanics, especially since he never plays them for extended periods of time yet likes to complain about them, clearly not knowing anything about how they play. I'm sorry, but I believe that if you really want to rant about something, CVs, Submarines, whatever, at least play them for an extended period of time to get both sides of the argument.

tldr: it's completely irrelevant if he took out any planes, because it had absolutely no effect on the cv's ability to drop him for full damage.
@matsab7930 Lmao, dude, I'm a cruiser main. I know enough about CVs to work around them. It's called adapting to the game, which I made a point that not everyone wants to do in this game, apparently. I can still argue that planes shot down should reward defending ships more, but still, you just have to realize that you cannot 100% not take damage from a CV 100% of the time, and at best mitigate damage by making yourself a harder target to hit and wasting their time. Besides maybe Malta AP carpet bombers, most CV ordnance is pretty easy to dodge, especially in a nimble cruiser like Brisbane. Unless a CV gets a good angle and or gets good RNG, CV ordnance does little damage if most of it misses.

Sure, dodging works great, but you’re ignoring arguably the biggest problems with cv’s for ships like Brisbane; negating the entire advantage the ship has, it’s concealment.
The cv will perma-spot you, and more importantly force you to turn to dodge their strike, which will then deal reasonable, but not insane damage. This is okay. What is not okay, is that in order to dodge the strike you have been forced to turn broadside to 5 surface ships, and will be dev struck by one of them if you’re not lucky.
The unavoidable crossfires, complete removal of concealment as a ship characteristic, negation of positioning and zero ability to interact with the ship itself or otherwise punish it for mistakes (even through shooting down planes) is what makes the class unfun to play against and fundamentally unbalanced.
@matsab7930 I actually agree with you on this front. Ever since they linked long-range AA to your minimum air spotting, it really sealed the deal of Pan Euro DDs being the best AA ships. I'd also love to see more manual control of AA, such as directing flak yourself to increase the actual defense of your ship instead of simply maneuvering and pressing buttons so my AA is magically stronger I won't lie: the interaction needs to be improved.
Still, I'd still argue to play around being spotted by aircraft. If a CV is keen on running your flank and constantly spotting you, then you just have to play more conservatively and know that taking risks under CV pressure will be risky. It's pretty much like any other ship that has a good stat that is hard countered by a ship that so happens to be on the enemy team, such as radar. Having good AA certainly helps, but you have to play more defensive. Learning to adapt and overcome hard counters I'd argue makes the better player.
I am adamant that some of the upcoming CV changes will help, but balancing a powerful class like CVs is tricky. I am not saying CVs are fine either, but I'm simply arguing to learn how they work now and adapt to them and the current meta as a whole.

@@jimbo1637 Well I think russian radar ships are way better. At least BBs have no overmatch on most parts of Stalin, Moskva, Petro. But they can devstrike you bow in in des moines or salem cos they overmatch your whole ship.
