@jgizzy If you want to become a technician that is really the best way. Try and focus on your electrical and emissions as that will get you the highest paying jobs. I wish you the best of luck and thanks for the comment, I'm glad to have you as a subscriber, makes me feel kind of tingly inside.
@ndiboomer The only reason that is an issue right now is because of that Civic parked behind it, normally it's not there and I would have plenty of room to work. That one gets an engine next so it will go away soon. Thanks for the comment.
@StevenJamesJ Yea, I used to be like that believe it or not but I got older and realized that there were other things that were real problems, car stuff doesn't bother me because in the end I know I'll win, there are very few other things in my life I feel that way about.
@pberglin Don't be too hard on him I think it was just a poor choice of words, I see where he was coming from though. You can't please everyone. Thanks for your comment.
@nizmojoeblows If it's fuel injected it will actually warm up quicker if you drive it, engines really don't like to idle for long periods and in a way it wastes gas. If it's that cold for log periods of time you might consider a block heater as they are great for cold weather like that.
@fordtruckin365 Yea I'd leave the trans and transfer case in the truck, I was replacing the trans on this one that's why I did it this way on this one. Good luck and thanks for your comment.
@Michiganborn1969 Yea it was close but it worked. The injection system you describe has been used for a few years on GM vehicles if I remember correctly.
@vipermech Didn't have another boot clamp handy and it seemed easier to leave it assembled. With a job like this you make choices, I'm not saying you way would not have been better I was just trying to be efficient even though it cost me some extra effort installing the transfer case.
@Vanuatoo The sealant sealed just fin and the only reason I would see where it might leak is if someone removed the transfer case. If it does leak I'm happy to remove it and put a gasket in, it just wasn't available that day.
@findtmoon I'm totally OK with it as long as it constructive not accusatory. The reason I took the intake off for the install was per suggestion by some of the viewers. I realize that I'm not the be all end all and I'm just fine with that so benefiting from the wisdom of my viewers is just fine with me.
@qaz3000 I think your referring to a block heater which you may find on cars and trucks in cold climates. The cold makes things thick and less likely to move correctly, also batteries don't work as well when they are cold so between those 2 things it's hard to get a car started from stone cold to running again.
@staffsgtbigboo Cause I'd rather find a new shop that I can put a lift into. Also, I normally don't have another car behind the car that I'm working on making things more difficult. Thanks for the suggestion though.
All I can say is WOW! When you were putting the engine back in still on the cherry picker I was watching REAL close that your picker was going to hit the jack stand. Glad to see that it worked out for you. Btw, on my intake gasket project I learned something new on the way. I don't have fuel rail instead I have somthing called spider injectors. Loved your quote about being the master of the machine. Was inspiring.
@3wheeler016 I have some but it's a pain to use since I don't use it often so I save it for things like resealing diffs and stuff, the honda bond was easy to grab so I did. Thanks for the suggestion and comment.
@acttacus That is good to know because I looked for the adjuster under the steering wheel and by the trans and didn't find it, the shift cable on this truck runs along the frame rail and then up by the gas tank so I really couldn't see anywhere for the adjustment where I looked. I'll be sure to look tomorrow though as I'm fixing the exhaust and going over it before I send it on it's way. Thanks for the tip.
Way to go, Eric. I gotta say, I in NO WAY enjoy watching you struggle with this or that, ....but it does help me to know that I'm not alone in there being SOMETHING going on that holds me up with MOST swaps, lol. Sounds great, ....but yes, first thing I thought, first start, before you got there, was "ooops, exhaust collector not tight", lol. Have a great weekend, Eric, Mark
@Warkhan Are you serious? Lets put it this way if a customer has an issue with my work I take care of it and I don't consider what I did cutting corners.
@philosifur1 I do plan to make that video but it will have to wait for a bit I have some other projects to finish first. Feel no shame for being an ETCG subscriber, everybody's doin it.
@touchymuffin97 With enough money and time you can do just about anything. The thing with 'modern' engine swaps is that you need to consider if your computer will run the new engine correctly, sometimes you have to change the computer and wiring harness to get that to work.
@aodhanof90 I just bought a couple of cheep ones from harbor freight. Being as cheep as they are it's easy to replace them if there is a problem. They've held up well so far.
@chillincruisin That sounds like a drive line issue. You may have a drive shaft that is bent our out of balance. It could also be an issue with lubrication in the rear end. Give those things a look and see what you find.
So I realize this was nine years ago, but I'm just now seeing these. I've seen a lot of your newer vids, but I just did this same swap with a couple friends. Only difference is that there's was 2wd so it was a little bit easier. They gave me the old engine to rebuild and my research on it brought me here. Before I got to this one, I was thinking "why didn't he take the intake manifold off?" Anyway, you've come a long way since then and I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for what you do.
In the last video comments i said silicone is fine at the transfer case when reassembling. I've done it many times this way and no comebacks. Actually just did one last week. It was fun to watch you struggle with it but I don't understand why you didn't remove the driveshaft. It just slides out after you remove the boot clamp. The cats do come out from undernieth. You have to remove the trans crossmember and front driveshaft. Job well done again..
@EricTheCarGuy - I do not want to see the pricetag on those two catalytic converters - I'm guessing the whole section was bought from the dealership? I'm going to take another guess that you get jobber rates on parts and supplies - if you need exhaust componants - try looking at fle-online. com (Full Line Exhaust). They have excellent rates and don't rape you on shipping. I sourced all my componants from there for my MX6 exhaust including a Magnaflow/Carsound cat for $65. Great rates for OEM too
Oustanding! I am proud of you Eric for sticking with it, especially when it came to that torque converter! Loved the choice of music, nice touch! Thanks for the hard work, and taking time to video it and share it with us!
Eric was excited about 10k subs back then. He has 800k subs now. Damn, this guy had come along way. Started watching when he did the heater core flush video. Keep up the good work. 😆
I was replacing the transmission and transfer case on my 48 Ford, so I bought a transmission jack to make things a bit easier. Well, the one I bought was a cheapy and it really wasn't strong enough. The transmission went in ok, but the transfer case is much heavier in this case. I had the transfer case nearly into position when the scissor-style jack just started to fold over. I tried stopping the 200+ Lbs with my hand and it just pinned my hand to the floor....fun times.
Great videos Eric, love em. Watching you wrestle with the transfer case reminds me of the time I changed the clutch in my 1978 Econoline. It was in my driveway in the late fall. The weather was terrible and I was laying on a blue tarp under the truck holding the transmission up while a couple of guys were above trying to guide and install bolts. A gust of wind shifted and the freezing rain/snow dam that had formed in the blue tarp let go and suddenly yours truly was laying in ice water. Fun!
I'm 22 and just finished swapping out a 302 for a 351 in my 91 ford pick up not even a week ago.. really wish I saw your videos before I did it! maybe wouldnt have run into as many headaches lol great job!
@tinydx95t2 Yea a few people suggested the intake thing and it worked great. I'd like to get my hands on some more new stuff myself. Thanks for the comment.
@joe2mercs Yea for some reason I chose the hard way but it worked out and I'm happy to be past it. I'm not saying I'm above bad language but I try to be like Yoda in situations like that and remember that I will win in the end and that usually gets me through. Thanks for the comment.
They should give you a show on the discovery channel, velocity or speed. You do great quality work and it is explained in such a way that beginners trying to get into mechanics, such as myself, can really learn the basics and then some. Thanks for the great videos! Also I have this engine in my truck, very cool to see how it all fits together.
Oh Eric!! I Applaud the effort with the transfer case under the car like that. I recently was in the same situation with a 110lb diff in my MKIV supra. Its scary under there!!!! Good job!
@fordfan855 Glad you liked the video I enjoyed making it, even the tough parts. There are times where I could use a hand but I have all of you watching to keep me company and that is awesome. Thanks for the comment.
@itneverwasme The PS works I just had to rev the engine to get it to start circulating, same thing on the last GM I worked on, works fine now though. I do plan on doing a Part 4 covering what happened to cylinder #6 in a few weeks. Thanks for your comment.
i really can't believe that you're doing this by yourself. i saw you get the transfer case out in another video. there's no way i'd try to do this on my own, but i guess you gotta do what you gotta do.
@axenz1 Well I don't have water in the shop for one. I tried to remove the old gasket but it would come off in one piece. I think it worked out though.
@TR4zest You know it's really great when people 'get it' like you did in this comment. You may not realize it but you described the very philosophy of ETCG, thanks.
@lspaul92 I've actually had viewers send me pics of the body off of the frame to get to the engine on those. Thanks for the tips and for your comments I really appreciate your insight.
@jgizzy If you want to become a technician that is really the best way. Try and focus on your electrical and emissions as that will get you the highest paying jobs. I wish you the best of luck and thanks for the comment, I'm glad to have you as a subscriber, makes me feel kind of tingly inside.

@TheTexasCoder Glad you liked it and my music.
I knew you'd triumph in the end. It looks and sounds great. i can't believe you found an engine with so few miles on it. Nicely done!
@peelout40 No, I like to make up words that don't make any sense when I get to that point, makes me feel better. Thanks for the comment.
@woodworks9 It already has but you have to make due where you can. Thanks for the comment.
@COD5252 That sounds like a good one, I'll add it to the list. Thanks for the suggestion.
@nizmojoeblows If it's fuel injected it will actually warm up quicker if you drive it, engines really don't like to idle for long periods and in a way it wastes gas. If it's that cold for log periods of time you might consider a block heater as they are great for cold weather like that.
@cruddiestcrudever This is actually the same platform the LS1's are based on, lots of people love them.
@groutaone Yea we fought for a bit but she gave up in the end. Thanks for stopping by and giving it a view.
@vipermech Didn't have another boot clamp handy and it seemed easier to leave it assembled. With a job like this you make choices, I'm not saying you way would not have been better I was just trying to be efficient even though it cost me some extra effort installing the transfer case.

@IronPriest82 It's not for everyone that's for sure, at least watching my videos you get to see all the fun your missing. :)
@staffsgtbigboo Cause I'd rather find a new shop that I can put a lift into. Also, I normally don't have another car behind the car that I'm working on making things more difficult. Thanks for the suggestion though.
@danielc365 The new engine does not effect the mileage, altering the mileage in ANY way is not legal.
@view5556 You won't find it in the store because I made it. :) Thanks for your comments.
@AFrattz1 No, to be honest I don't think I'll be in this shop too much longer.
@xsenceo89x Indeed it is. Thanks for the comment.
@1IdeaAhead Sony HDR-SR11 and HDR-SR8, both work great.
@3wheeler016 I have some but it's a pain to use since I don't use it often so I save it for things like resealing diffs and stuff, the honda bond was easy to grab so I did. Thanks for the suggestion and comment.
@1elAguila Yea 4x4 can be a challenge. I'm glad that Dodge wasn't 4x4. Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it.
@ad356 Actually they do that on these large displacement engines to keep the emissions in compliance, simple doesn't always work unfortunately.
@bennyboyhead Not really but I don't mind I have all of you watching and that's company enough.
@Warkhan I'm cool, you did raise an important issue but perhaps it's how you worded it that appeared confrontational.
@RamblinAround Ouch. Yea there really is no substitute for good quality tools. Hope your OK.
@mh89780 Good luck with that. I liked taking things apart too but the key is to get them back together and working again.
@imachefmang Snugged it up yesterday morning and is running great. Thanks for the comment.
@AngryGunNerd Been doing it for a while and I'm used to it like so may others that do what I do. Remember, you are it's master.
Have a great weekend, Eric,

@gordogreen Not me.

@philosifur1 I do plan to make that video but it will have to wait for a bit I have some other projects to finish first. Feel no shame for being an ETCG subscriber, everybody's doin it.
@wigsplittin26 Awesome comment, thank you very much.
@fixinggrace Thanks for that comment I really appreciate it.
@findtmoon Your 100% right I should have, I got away with it this time but in the future I'll be more careful. Thanks for the comment.
@ghtowagon I have one but I like simplicity where I can find it. Thanks for the suggestion and the comment.
@Mr91GTS Yea it wasn't fun but it's over now.
@eleeter Thanks for the comment, I was getting some flack for the RTV but I'm glad many agree.
@roro560v8 Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.
@chillincruisin That sounds like a drive line issue. You may have a drive shaft that is bent our out of balance. It could also be an issue with lubrication in the rear end. Give those things a look and see what you find.
@thegreyghost1950 Don't know, the owner bought it. Aside from that I have a policy of not discussing pricing.
@mrjost55 I don't do this work all the time and to be honest I really don't mind working alone. In fact I have all of you watching.
@RamblinAround Yea that was a spot of good fortune for sure.
@uncleboring I almost think I've heard something like that in the past, thanks for sharing and for your comment.
@GeometryWars I will, thanks for the comment.
@Kennykid2002 Those are negative thoughts and therefore unproductive, too much work to do to focus on that.
@EricWaterTruck Indeed it was.
So I realize this was nine years ago, but I'm just now seeing these. I've seen a lot of your newer vids, but I just did this same swap with a couple friends. @foxdmulder Great idea. I know what I did was the hard way but it's what time allowed. Thanks for the comment.
@hwfixiturself For me it comes up with Eric Clapton and I'm OK with that.
@ZionzSavior Yea you don't want to drop those things on your head, it would hurt.
In the last video comments i said silicone is fine at the transfer case when reassembling. I've done it many times this way and no comebacks. Actually just did one last week. @uncleboring Yea they are. I've also used cereal boxes for gaskets in the past too.
@Michiganborn1969 Probably, remember my videos are also lessons in what not to do sometimes as my mistakes can be other peoples gain.
Oustanding! I am proud of you Eric for sticking with it, especially when it came to that torque converter! Loved the choice of music, nice touch! Thanks for the hard work, and taking time to video it and share it with us!
@Sorcerer1984 Awesome, thanks for the input.
@BHownsall That would be cool but I have a hard time seeing what I do here on YT as a TV show but stranger things have happened.
@sklzlm Yea some days are better than others. Thanks very much for your comment.
10,000 subscribers then 3 short years later 400,000. amazing job!!!! That number alone shows how much of an impact this guy has made.
And another year later, it's almost 711K!
+acoow astonishing really lol
@dericn The next engine will be that darn Civic so I shouldn't have that problem again anytime soon.
Eric was excited about 10k subs back then. He has 800k subs now. Damn, this guy had come along way. Started watching when he did the heater core flush video. Keep up the good work. 😆
@Bushougoma No the diff would not clear even with the intake removed, still had to pry past it even with it dropped down.
I was replacing the transmission and transfer case on my 48 Ford, so I bought a transmission jack to make things a bit easier. Well, the one I bought was a cheapy and it really wasn't strong enough. @jboydmv90 110 miles, did they forget to put oil in it?
@mh89780 Not too bad after I removed the intake.
@starlite528 Thanks for that comment, I really appreciate it.
@djdirtytazz With a job like this it's a given. Thanks for the comment.
@TheArson7 They make great pizza just up the street, it's a good place to get out of the cold for a bit too.
Great videos Eric, love em. Watching you wrestle with the transfer case reminds me of the time I changed the clutch in my 1978 Econoline. It was in my driveway in the late fall. @student10008 I don't remember but I think 58.
Some good tips here Eric, I thought the weight of the transfer case was going to get the better of you but you gotRdone, nice video
@joe2mercs Yea for some reason I chose the hard way but it worked out and I'm happy to be past it. I'm not saying I'm above bad language but I try to be like Yoda in situations like that and remember that I will win in the end and that usually gets me through. Thanks for the comment.

@sev1214 Yes but not right away I have other projects to complete first.
eric great job amigo i just did one on a ford escape and is a lot work on the 4x4 car.
take care amigo
@lspaul92 I've actually had viewers send me pics of the body off of the frame to get to the engine on those. Thanks for the tips and for your comments I really appreciate your insight.
@Hondatech26 I appreciate that, they were just trying to keep me honest I think. Can't please everybody.
man you just man handled that tcase up in there! when i changed the tcase in my jeep, i needed 2 guys and a jack!
@dumapies Oh wait, I think that's something that I did, sorry it's been a while since I made this video.
@stuffedchicken420 I would have used one but I couldn't get one in a timely manner so I improvised, so far so good.
