Your smiling face and advice is such a boost and encouragement to me I cannot put it into words. I am only 5 days out of surgery and you have been like an angel to me.

thanks Laura. As someone who is about to have the operation, your videos have taken away a lot of the mystery and thus a lot of the anxiety and fear. i hope you know how much this means to me. Ron

Thank you so much for these videos. My brother is 16 and just had surgery today for his crohns and we were just told he will need an ostomy. Seeing how happy you are and willing to help others is awesome. Thanks

Colostomy here. Much thicker stool than you have with the ileostomy. I have found that pouring a little warm water in the bag loosens things up well enough to get it out without much trouble. Then I rinse with more warm water before closing it. I have tried the sitting backwards or on the back of the seat but for me the best way has been to simply squat or lean over the bowl.

As an overweight person, it's difficult to sit on toilet to empty my ostomy. Also, having bad knees makes it difficult to always be able to kneel in front of toilet. So I pour water in mine to loosen everything up and then I empty it into a small container (used ONLY for this, of course) and when I'm finished, I empty the container into the toilet.

Jackie Rager I do this too. I put a small amount of water in my container, makes it easier to dump.

The video was a great explanation, thank you! Even though mine is a UR-ostomy, and have had it a couple years, I will try your first sitting technique to help eliminate splashing.

I'm making a vlog about it right now with my boyfriend. It'll be up tonight, tomorrow, or the day after! :) Thanks for the question. I've been wanting to do this for a while now. It's a topic I wondered about a lot before I had surgery and I couldn't find much of an answer anywhere!

I used to change every 3 to 4 days. Now I change about every 4-6 days, depending on how well my seal is sticking.

Great! Do you use squirt bottles? I am still using clamp bags as I have discovered that the Velcro bags can leak at the bottom. you have to be careful -there is one small piece of thinner plastic in the folding chain -don't damage that!

I haven't decided yet, but you may have possibly saved my life. I'm recently diagnosed with colon cancer, and deciding between letting cancer run it's course, vs. having an ileostomy. Seeing how comfortable you are with it makes me somewhat less resistant to the idea. How often do you have to empty it?

  • @lorddracul8019
    @lorddracul8019 11 ปีที่แล้ว

I have an ileostomy and it doesn't come out as watery. I'm assuming that after many years my body has adapted to absorb more water through the small intestine since I have no colon. You might want to rinse the bag with a little water after emptying so it doesn't get horribly smelly.

I am becoming a travel agent,
I am planning on groups who travel yearly on say a 7 day or 12 day cruise
Would a Colostomy, Urostomy, Illiostomy Group travling together be a thing
Ostomates would like? If so let me know I will be checking back to see
if Ostomates are interested in a Yearly Ostomates Cruise.
Meeting other ostomates would be helpful dating wise since some
    don't date due to Ostomy.

I have no idea the difference bet ileostomy and colostomy but anyway iam colostomy for 6 years now and for that period of time i figure out how to empty my bag more efficiently and quick as i can. So heres my technique, first i always bring with me a rod w/c mm in diameter and about 10 cm long where i roll up my toilet paper to clean the inner portion of my bag. It is so wasting too much of toilet paper in just rooling up just like that and besides it will not hold much to bring out that sticky solid pof.my rod is made of aluminum i see to it that it will slide easily even when its wet.anyway I bought that rod in a local hardware.so thats all folks im only sharing my experience.good luck guys.god bless us all.dont lost hope.

For closing the bag I find folding the first flap down and then the next two get folded up. It makes a thinner seal.
