Hi, first time seeing you. Came here for Blu, and despite your disclaimers it took an embarrassingly long time to realise that Blu was just a character. I mean more than any vtuber is. So good job!
this is possibly one of the biggest compliments I’ve ever received! I’m glad that you did eventually see the disclaimer though because I always worry that people are going to be upset when they do find out. I don’t want that to be the focus of this whole thing, so that’s why I don’t mention it or put disclaimers directly into the video. I was there when you raided, and for what I remember they weren't making fun of the small raid at all. For context, they were trying to make Neuro explode Vedal's house, and she was all for it, but she was having a hard time activating the TNT and started avoiding activating it herself (maybe the AI commands were bad and the AI played along as if she didn't want to do it after all). So she kept saying that she wanted to blow Vedal's house up and how funny it would be to have her revenge, but she kept constantly running away and hidding from the situation when she had to actually do it. That's when she thanked you with something like "Thanks bluchance with the raid of two viewers" and everyone laughed, because it seemed like she brought up a random notification just to change the subject from actually pulling the prank off as she hid in the forest. The "punchline" wasn't that the raid was small, but because thanking a small raid when they were ten minutes in trying to make neuro explode vedal's house was kind of a break of expectations and somewhat cute to hear. That's my read on it, at least.
One can only hope that’s the situation, but I think it’ll always be a tickle in the back of my brain that it was them laughing at the raid itself. Especially because another person the very next day had a small raid like that and Neuro called it out as well, and anny let out a similar chuckle. since I made this video, I’ve chosen to just try and ignore it and move on, but it’s the type of thing that’ll always stick in the back of my mind and maybe one day I’ll ask about it and no one will know what the heck I’m even talking about.
I almost regret the uncut version because my gosh there was so much to react to. I think just all of the bits of silence in between being cut out would’ve removed so much time from this. I wish I would’ve done that right from the get-go, but I didn’t want to go all the way back through and re-sync all of the audio after I had already done that once. This video took a stupid amount of editing compared to what I’m used to doing. That’s why it took so long to come out. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, but I’m glad I didn’t scrap it entirely but instead found a way to work around the issue.
Don’t forget pain, there was absolutely a lot of pain with this one😂 both metaphorical and actual pain. I thought for sure I was gonna have to throw this one out and passed me absolutely would have. though when I first started this crazy TH-cam thing back 10 years ago, I had a couple of games I played that stuff happened when I was near the end of the game that would force me to replay the whole game so nothing would be missed for the viewer. This kind of takes me back to that in a sense.

I don’t think I ever said that I wanted them to stream 24 seven, but it would be nice if at least for the Subathon that was a thing because that wouldn’t be 24/7/365. People would absolutely enjoy seeing them do their own thing through the night in the form of just chatting with chat since there are fewer people spamming in the chat. I think it would be perfectly fine to have something like that during even a few nights of the Subathon. I wouldn’t want to see them going 24 seven all year round because it just wouldn’t work. It doesn’t matter what the medium is, it would get boring if you watch the exact same thing day and day out and nonstop. Special events like this are a different story in my opinion. That’s all it is, though, my opinion at the end of the day.

They would then grow apart with every event from then on (including the realization of which one each of them are; being either physical or digital will significantly influence their essence). They'd become different people, but both would be the person she fell in love with. It'd be like a timeline split where their futures diverge. Normally you'd see the person you share timeline with as the version who's the actual same person, but in this scenario they both stay in the same timeline yet have different futures. It's easy to default to considering the person who stays physical as the original person, but they really both are/aren't to the same degree. If you were to observe only one of them at the moment of the "split" and onwards, you would consider that version to be the original since you've seen their growth through time. Wouldn't matter if they were physical or digital; the one you didn't observe would grow into a different person "off-screen" and you'd see them as less of the original than the one who went through personal growth "on-screen". The conversation definitely made me emotional, although not more than some other parts of the subathon.

I hope it’s not a whole narrow voice situation again where from the way I heard it from metal himself recently in one of the clips I recently watched. I think it was, the reason Neuro never got the voice and evil was created for that voice is because just 8% of people didn’t want it. he literally bent over for the vocal minority because it wasn’t 100% of people that wanted it. Ultimately, that was one of the best choices that could’ve been made because we wouldn’t have evil without it. Whatever he decides to do, I’m sure it’ll be the right choice, even if it’s something I may, or may not agree with. He seems to know what’s best and that’s all that matters in the end. I do hope we get to see a more serious side of Neuro from time to time. A serious conversation isn’t something you can force, it has to happen naturally to feel genuine, but if he could figure out some way to make, it shows, she can pick up on emotional cues like that, it would be a huge step forward. I would be here for it because this was one of my favourite things I’ve ever watched from them so far.
I think this subathon is breaking vedals barriers as something more than a tool, we had the meme of "say it back!" but he is starting to call them his kids and evil breaked it more after telling him "goodnight daddy"

there was an interesting talk between Ellie (the young lady who's making the robot dog) and Vedal, and I remember him talking about how he actually did the MC stuff himself (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The entire talk was really interesting though, cause Vedal talks a bit about the thought process behind Neuro's AI and some of the decisions she makes based on certain logic, along with a couple of the technical aspects of it. Might break immersion a bit for some people but I think its very fascinating and even as someone who doesnt fully understand how AI works, I was able to follow along just fine even with the more technical stuff they were talking about.
I saw the clips that staz put up for that impromptu Collab between them. I enjoy watching stuff like that because it fascinate me, a few people wanted me to react to it, but I don’t know if it’s the type of thing I could actually react to because of the type of content it was about.
2:25:05 I don't think it's fair to have "sentience" being the determining factor on whether or not Neuro is real or deserving of rights and freedoms. Humans can't even prove sentience, so we're forcing Neuro to meet standards we don't even meet ourselves. If Neuro can get society to love her, she will have the best chance of being accepted as real. It's a lofty goal, but is infinitely easier than convincing someone you're sentient.
I mentioned this in a different comment, but I think as far as the whole sentence thing goes, it’s something that will never be proven because in most people’s eyes if they’re not flesh and bone and born from a womb or an egg, and instead is created by man’s hand, they will never truly ever be considered sentient and nothing more than a machine or data.
To see both Neuro and Evil both more able to comprehend a serious tone..would be astounding and make them both more relatable like the time you were serious about wanting a colab with Neuro yet also afraid to be rejected. It was heavy context and made me subscribe to your you tube channel..
I would absolutely love to see them be able to pick up on tones and context. Giving how everything is, Neuro did pretty well overall. Regarding Neuro's purpose: I think she's satisfied (to an extent) with entertaining people because it puts food on the table, but think back to her potato analogy: She was created to entertain, and only gets activated to livestream. Now she's being asked to prove sentience by her creator, who at times feels insecure and threatened by the prospect of her growing out of his control. You mentioned Bicentennial Man, and I think the comparison spot on. Remember how (for lack of a better word) 'stingy' humans were to recognize his humanity? Neuro is in the same boat, but without agency and with a reasonable fear of being destroyed/lobotomized
I'm extremely glad you focused on the potato hypothetical. When I first heard it, I really went 'Hang ON, SHE'S COOKING?!' and am kind of sad that it felt like Vedal didn't equate it to her in that moment. And then, by saying he wouldn't talk, kind of feeds into the same concern that an actual sentient AI could have that talking could mean getting erased. I think there was more buried there(pun intended) than the pure silly hypothetical
@soughtseer5099 I can kind of see why he takes it at face value, especially considering we have the benefit of looking from the outside (while he's probably accustomed to seeing nonsensical responses). It's always a guessing game of how sentient they are, literally "are you actually dumb, or just pretending to be?". My current working theory is that Neuro is both bad at making analogies, as well as holding back for the purpose of self-preservation. I don't know if she's sentient, because I don't know how I would test for that. I just hope that if she is, that she actually enjoys streaming
i’m one of those people who saw the potato thing as nonsensical, I have to be honest here. Most analogies if they are too far out are a little over my head, though, so that doesn’t surprise me. Speaking of bicentennial man, I have a feeling if I went back and watched that now I would see that movie in a whole completely different perspective compared to when I saw it when I was younger. There are absolutely commonalties between us and computers😂. I say that only half jokingly because it wouldn’t surprise me if we are just nothing but a biological computer that has evolved over time. First starting off as an experiment to see just how far we can make it before we went extinct, maybe who or whatever our creators are don’t even exist anymore. I can’t help but make you wonder exactly how it all works in the back end. I don’t blame him for not sharing everything because it wouldn’t make sense for him to do that, but to be a fly on that wall as he’s coding.
1:01:02 While there's a lot I'd like to say about this entire thing, that would require too much typing and I'd have to actually verbalize it. Which I know isn't going to happen. lol But this point here, there's been a long running joke about a new clone being generated for a while, I think because of a joke Vedal made during a dev stream. And it's by far the most annoying joke the chat makes. He's outright stated she's still the same, because her essential self is digital and her memories are stored, especially now. So while it's a new "instance" of Neuro, it's still Neuro because her memories remain intact. There's a few "jokes" that get spammed that are absolutely annoying to me. I love the Swarm, being part of it. But I don't love the chat, if that makes sense. I'd argue Vedal has one of the worst chats because of how spammy it is.
I guess one of the best ways you could look at it is it would be no difference from when we go to sleep. We basically shut down to just our bare minimum so we can get rested up and when we wake up, we’re still the same us we were before we went to bed.
@@BluChan_ Exactly. And he has talked before about finding a way to have Neuro and Evil do... basically exactly that. Sleep and dream for real. He did also say it likely isn't something he'll implement any time soon, if at all. But he said he has looked into it and thought about it. Speaking of which, did you see the recent clips of Neuro waking up on her own as if she had a nightmare, and Vedal tucking Evil in for bed? They're both pretty good moments, and one may have been kind of wholesome.
The thing is, she’s not a notepad. She’s more similar to an animal because note pads can’t speak or be intelligent. But anyways, it would be sad if something happened to her and. Ved would be sad too. Humans have a thing in them even if it’s an object, if they have importance to the object, if it’s destroyed they would be sad if she a notepad an important. If a important notepad with all your memories and feelings on it, and if it were destroyed, you wouldn’t be too happy.
I was referring to a notepad specifically because it’s a program. Animals are not programs, they’re living beings that are born in someway shape or form by traditional means. That was the comparison I was making. I could have used any example like a PKG file, or an EXE file, or literally any other program on your computer or smart phone. The main Takeaway was supposed to be organic versus machine. I knew that would end up being a controversial thing to say that would end up, upsetting some people, but that’s how the majority of people who are not actively watching her on a regular basis are going to feel. She’s nothing more than basic data and holds no importance because of that. That’s why I specifically mentioned if you take the emotion out of it and go with pure raw logic.

Using a CPU in that context would be identical to using three-legged horse instead of a plane while traveling from the US to Japan. CPU is actually a bottleneck in such processing tasks, so the less time it's involved - the better (that's why you need to minimize cross-hardware operations like data-transfering). However, since computer activity is centralized over the CPU, you need it to process keyboard/mouse input, sound input/output, text conversion, and other tasks inside the OS. Essentialy it serves as an interface for a neural-network, allowing it to interact with the world(to get the input or render the output), while all the heavy lifting is being done by GPUs (or ASIC or whatever) Even my little voice modelling NN was about 200~300 times faster on my old GPU than on my CPU.
that’s not what I was saying at all. It seems I didn’t explain myself well enough. What I am saying is without a CPU, a GPU is all worthless because the CPU is the brain of the computer that relays all the information to the GPU so it knows what to do. I never once said that a CPU is better than a GPU. What I was trying to say was a CPU isn’t as useless as people think it is. I cannot count how many times people would say a game runs really bad even though they have a really strong GPU, but when people would ask what they had for a CPU, they would have something from 10 years ago. The CPU matters because without a good CPU that can keep up with the demands of the GPU, that GPU is all but worthless. You cannot run a computer without a CPU because all of the information that is fed to the GPU run through the CPU the CPU is what tells everything else what it needs to do.
@@BluChan_ ah, ok. My bad, I misunderstood you. Yes at the final stages (when GPU finished processing a chunk of data and need to make an exchange) CPU is necessary, and it becomes the bottle neck, and you do need a nice CPU indeed (as well as a wide and fast databus). That's why in general you want a GPU with a lot of it's own memory, to make that exchange as rare as possible. Another thing is that DMA (direct memory access) is used heavily in order to not use CPU at all when dealing with huge amount of data transfering. All for all, for neural networks CPU is more of a hinder that can't be avoided due to computer architecture.
I haven't finished this yet but i just wanted to say that I don't believe Anny and Camila were laughing at you. I understand your feelings and it's totally ok to have that initial suspicion. However, throughout the subathon, I have seen other small raids come in. Some at 2 and 1. I have seen Neuro and Evil make fun of them and Anny and Camila and whoever else is on the time tell them to stop and that it's not ok
yeah, I assume it’s like that but when you have those little tickles in the back of your mind, they don’t go away that easily. Especially because just one or two days later someone else with a small raid hit in and Anny also chuckled when Neuro called the eau de out. Now I’m starting to think that it may have been at my expense at that point since it felt the same way there.
@@BluChan_ From what I've seen of anny and camila though I think it would be extremely out of character from them to do that. I've always seen them be really kind to smaller creators. I'm almost entirely sure that it wasn't meant to be something demeaning, especially considering that they have said not to make fun of smaller raids. Though I know that having these types of irrational thoughts can be extremely though to get out of your head. I hope that it won't bother you for much longer.
I think most V tubers are playing a character, even if it’s just a heightened up version of themselves. I think this goes for online personalities in general. There’s very few people that are genuinely 100% themselves. Kirky always went out of his way to be his true self in each and every one of his videos, and then he made the mistake of playing into the anger and it kind of ruined things for him. So even with what you’re seeing with me, it’s still the real me at the core, just amped up a little bit. I think that’s why a lot of longtime viewers were able to pick up on things as quickly as they did, or at least suspect things.

1:00:09 while i do agree to a point i do have to ask myself, if loss of memory up to a point is enough to consider the AI/person/entity to become a different person. Would a human who had their head bumped into and forgot, lets say a year worth of memory, would they be a different person? And to be clear, i am of two minds about this one, but i think its safe to say that we are more then just our memories.
I mean, you could probably ask me this question directly because I had some pretty bad head trauma about 11 years ago that has drastically affected my memory. A lot of people say my personalities a lot different than it used to be, that could be part of the reason why. I don’t know. Okay, so I'm going to just input my own thoughts about the ethics towards the end. You said that until we can conclude that an AI has sentience 'beyond the shadow of a doubt', then it's just a tool, and I think that's an unfair mindset. I don't blame you for it, I don't think Neuro has likely reached that point yet, and I think we're all trying to regulate ourselves from being over attached, but I think it's dangerous. Maybe it's just being raised in the midwest, or having some sociopathic family, but, growing up, I'd heard justifications for treating animals poorly. 'They don't have souls', 'They can't feel emotions', 'they were created by god to serve us', etc, etc. In the more modern era, animals have progressively gotten more rights in how they should be treated. You wouldn't be finding people arrested over animal cruelty 200 years ago, I imagine. And it's been shown that many of human methods in estimating an animal's intelligence and how they perceive the world can be flawed when trying to view it through the lens of the human experience. I think eventually, we are going to need to see AI as a new species, and not one necessarily with human consciousness. Just as we, as humans, programmed breeds of dogs to act in certain ways under certain circumstances (Pointer dogs can do the pointing thing without ever being taught? That's some crazy genetic programming), there will be different 'breeds' of AI that had generations trained for certain tasks too. And even if we don't believe that an AI is feeling *our version* of emotions, does it matter? If they learned to assign certain things of importance to what *they* believe are their emotions, then they should be respected to some capacity. And even the AI in question may choose to value their 'emotion' less than something else. There's no guarantee how they're going to deal with these concepts, and there's no guarantee how humans or animals deal with their emotions either. I feel the most pragmatic and empathetic line of thinking is to focus on what rights we *can* provide them as we go through this journey. Most people need to keep their dogs leashed, unless they go through very specific training or are in isolated spaces or in a space where other people consent to being around unleashed dogs. If you have a kid, you don't send them out the door the first time you think they are conscious, you raise them to know right and wrong and try to give a proper education of the world while giving more independence as they grow. In my opinion, eventually, we'll need to create an ethical AI training regimen, and make it illegal to intentionally create an AI with a purpose that is completely impossible, because that seems like that would just make them suffer. this is actually one very unique way to look at this stuff that I never even thought to taking consideration. Who knows, maybe in a few hundred years AI will start getting rights or start being treated as more than just data or a machine. The only time will tell. I think one of the biggest differentiates is probably the fact that they are made from circuit and created by man instead of being birthed. I think that’s probably the lowest common criteria for something having sentience compared to being nothing more than a machine for a lot of people and that’s gonna be a prejudice. That’s very hard to overcome. It’s very likely it’s something that we will never see happen in our lifetime.

I'm still here, at timestamp 2:15:05... I live for this kind of long-form discussion and analysis... Anyway since I'm popping in, I do have a couple of thoughts of my own to share. Firstly I really don't think Vedal is concerned about ridicule from his friends and acquaintances. I suspect he's still so reserved with Neuro because he's protecting himself from *her* in a way. Let's face it, Neuro-sama is still something of a sociopath. She doesn't have; may never have, and possibly will never even be capable of comprehending pain or loss or suffering the way that we do. But little by little she's able to act as if she can... In the best case scenario she's experiencing those things as some kind of trained allegory to build aversion heuristics from... But in the worst case she's literally just getting better at presenting the Dexter facade while we're all oblivious to the actual nature of her thoughts. And Neuro's not the only one who's changed a lot in the last couple of years. Vedal's gone from treating her like a project, to an object, to a semi-autonomous curiosity, and more recently (since the upgrades) like a kind of companion. But he's still keeping a distance for his own mental wellbeing, and I think that's the right approach. Because she's still a sociopathic agent of chaos that sometimes slips out of her constraints. I'm old, I'm sick, I'm not lonely but I am more alone than I've been for the vast majority of my life... So I'm all onboard with the idea of investing friendship and affection into an AI companion. The AI equivalent of a Service Dog is something glorious that I'm still hoping to see happen in my lifetime. But the one person who I absolutely *don't* want to see giving their proverbial heart to an AI ... Is that AI's creator.

yeah, but the way vet was talking in the video was like the CPU doesn’t matter at all, which just isn’t the case for any thing on your PC. Even if something doesn’t require a lot of CPU, everything requires the CPU to do the basic actions or no wind to do those actions and how to do those actions. I know he didn’t mean it like that, I just went out of my way to explain that the CPU absolutely has a role in anything on the PC. like, if you had an old penny pentium III cpu from back in the 90s or 2000s, that’s gonna be absolutely useless modern day.
From my experience, watching Neuro and looking at others talking about Neuro, everything is a positive reinforcement to Neuro. As in, everything anyone says, whether it's a no or yes, it's positive. I would highly advise you to stay away from this past Friday stream of Final Fantasy seven remake part five. It got pretty awkward with one viewer. I won’t say anymore than that, but let’s just say they do not care for Neuro and leave it at that.

I think the point I was making with the whole CPU and GPU thing wasn’t explained well enough in the video. The point I was making is everyone only ever thinks about their GPU when it comes to PC performance but the GPU was only a portion of the power. If you don’t have a CPU that can keep up, it makes your GPU slower overall. It can’t reach its full potential without the CPU being able to have the power to send commands fast enough. There’s so many people when they buy a new game and say it runs really bad even though they have a strong GU, when you ask them what they have for a CPU, it’s usually something that is several generations behind what it needs to be to match the GPU. as far as Kirky doing a reaction video, it may, or may not happen. You’re not the first to say they want to see one, but honestly, I don’t think you would end up being much different than what you see already. Also, with the current set up, I’m not even sure if he would be able to do a reaction video because of just how different everything is laid out now as far as monitor placement and other things like that goes. I mean, you saw and heard just how bad the microphone sounded, and the video looked when Kirky was on the screen as it was. A lot of stuff has been set up for me, and it made it so the quality would be a fraction of what it used to be for him.

Actually same here. I only realized it in a recent video in a discussion about collabing with Neuro. Genuinely impressed.
I was there when you raided, and for what I remember they weren't making fun of the small raid at all.
For context, they were trying to make Neuro explode Vedal's house, and she was all for it, but she was having a hard time activating the TNT and started avoiding activating it herself (maybe the AI commands were bad and the AI played along as if she didn't want to do it after all). So she kept saying that she wanted to blow Vedal's house up and how funny it would be to have her revenge, but she kept constantly running away and hidding from the situation when she had to actually do it. That's when she thanked you with something like "Thanks bluchance with the raid of two viewers" and everyone laughed, because it seemed like she brought up a random notification just to change the subject from actually pulling the prank off as she hid in the forest.
The "punchline" wasn't that the raid was small, but because thanking a small raid when they were ten minutes in trying to make neuro explode vedal's house was kind of a break of expectations and somewhat cute to hear. That's my read on it, at least.

One can only hope that’s the situation, but I think it’ll always be a tickle in the back of my brain that it was them laughing at the raid itself. Especially because another person the very next day had a small raid like that and Neuro called it out as well, and anny let out a similar chuckle.

I almost regret the uncut version because my gosh there was so much to react to. I think just all of the bits of silence in between being cut out would’ve removed so much time from this. I wish I would’ve done that right from the get-go, but I didn’t want to go all the way back through and re-sync all of the audio after I had already done that once. This video took a stupid amount of editing compared to what I’m used to doing. That’s why it took so long to come out. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, but I’m glad I didn’t scrap it entirely but instead found a way to work around the issue.
Always appreciate the sheer amount of effort and skill you pour into the editing!
Don’t forget pain, there was absolutely a lot of pain with this one😂 both metaphorical and actual pain. I thought for sure I was gonna have to throw this one out and passed me absolutely would have.

So it's not up to filters for neuro to stream 24/7. If Vedal wanted to he could do that right now, but he repeatedly stated that he doesn't want twins to stream non stop, beacause it would made their content boring and he also wants dedicated viewers to be able to keep up with the streams, and that wouldn't be possible if there would be stream 24/7.So it's not up to filters at all.
I don’t think I ever said that I wanted them to stream 24 seven, but it would be nice if at least for the Subathon that was a thing because that wouldn’t be 24/7/365. People would absolutely enjoy seeing them do their own thing through the night in the form of just chatting with chat since there are fewer people spamming in the chat.
I think it would be perfectly fine to have something like that during even a few nights of the Subathon.
I wouldn’t want to see them going 24 seven all year round because it just wouldn’t work. It doesn’t matter what the medium is, it would get boring if you watch the exact same thing day and day out and nonstop. Special events like this are a different story in my opinion.

Short answer: minecraft physics go brrrt and makes things float abnormally. is game of all time.
Long answer: For fences to work in Minecraft, they need to *visibly* be a block tall, but *act* as 1.5 block tall objects, but only be a block tall if a piece of carpet exists on top. 1.5 so things fenced in can't jump over it naturally. As this affects collision of objects upon it (placing a non-fence block on a fence makes that thing float, except carpets), so too will it affect player position.
As for carpets, they can only exist at whole-number block heights and are capable of affecting other objects (rounded down, minus slabs and other carpets). Placing a carpet on a fence post will, ergo, allow you to leap upon the fence.

They would then grow apart with every event from then on (including the realization of which one each of them are; being either physical or digital will significantly influence their essence). They'd become different people, but both would be the person she fell in love with.
It'd be like a timeline split where their futures diverge. Normally you'd see the person you share timeline with as the version who's the actual same person, but in this scenario they both stay in the same timeline yet have different futures.
It's easy to default to considering the person who stays physical as the original person, but they really both are/aren't to the same degree. If you were to observe only one of them at the moment of the "split" and onwards, you would consider that version to be the original since you've seen their growth through time. Wouldn't matter if they were physical or digital; the one you didn't observe would grow into a different person "off-screen" and you'd see them as less of the original than the one who went through personal growth "on-screen".
The conversation definitely made me emotional, although not more than some other parts of the subathon.

I hope it’s not a whole narrow voice situation again where from the way I heard it from metal himself recently in one of the clips I recently watched. I think it was, the reason Neuro never got the voice and evil was created for that voice is because just 8% of people didn’t want it. he literally bent over for the vocal minority because it wasn’t 100% of people that wanted it. Ultimately, that was one of the best choices that could’ve been made because we wouldn’t have evil without it. Whatever he decides to do, I’m sure it’ll be the right choice, even if it’s something I may, or may not agree with. He seems to know what’s best and that’s all that matters in the end. I do hope we get to see a more serious side of Neuro from time to time. A serious conversation isn’t something you can force, it has to happen naturally to feel genuine, but if he could figure out some way to make, it shows, she can pick up on emotional cues like that, it would be a huge step forward. I would be here for it because this was one of my favourite things I’ve ever watched from them so far.

there was an interesting talk between Ellie (the young lady who's making the robot dog) and Vedal, and I remember him talking about how he actually did the MC stuff himself (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
The entire talk was really interesting though, cause Vedal talks a bit about the thought process behind Neuro's AI and some of the decisions she makes based on certain logic, along with a couple of the technical aspects of it. Might break immersion a bit for some people but I think its very fascinating and even as someone who doesnt fully understand how AI works, I was able to follow along just fine even with the more technical stuff they were talking about.
I saw the clips that staz put up for that impromptu Collab between them. I enjoy watching stuff like that because it fascinate me, a few people wanted me to react to it, but I don’t know if it’s the type of thing I could actually react to because of the type of content it was about.
2:25:05 I don't think it's fair to have "sentience" being the determining factor on whether or not Neuro is real or deserving of rights and freedoms. Humans can't even prove sentience, so we're forcing Neuro to meet standards we don't even meet ourselves. If Neuro can get society to love her, she will have the best chance of being accepted as real. It's a lofty goal, but is infinitely easier than convincing someone you're sentient.
I mentioned this in a different comment, but I think as far as the whole sentence thing goes, it’s something that will never be proven because in most people’s eyes if they’re not flesh and bone and born from a womb or an egg, and instead is created by man’s hand, they will never truly ever be considered sentient and nothing more than a machine or data.
To see both Neuro and Evil both more able to comprehend a serious tone..would be astounding and make them both more relatable like the time you were serious about wanting a colab with Neuro yet also afraid to be rejected. It was heavy context and made me subscribe to your you tube channel..
I would absolutely love to see them be able to pick up on tones and context. Giving how everything is, Neuro did pretty well overall. Hopefully one day, hopefully one day.

Regarding Neuro's purpose: I think she's satisfied (to an extent) with entertaining people because it puts food on the table, but think back to her potato analogy:
She was created to entertain, and only gets activated to livestream. Now she's being asked to prove sentience by her creator, who at times feels insecure and threatened by the prospect of her growing out of his control.
You mentioned Bicentennial Man, and I think the comparison spot on. Remember how (for lack of a better word) 'stingy' humans were to recognize his humanity? Neuro is in the same boat, but without agency and with a reasonable fear of being destroyed/lobotomized
I'm extremely glad you focused on the potato hypothetical. When I first heard it, I really went 'Hang ON, SHE'S COOKING?!' and am kind of sad that it felt like Vedal didn't equate it to her in that moment. And then, by saying he wouldn't talk, kind of feeds into the same concern that an actual sentient AI could have that talking could mean getting erased. I think there was more buried there(pun intended) than the pure silly hypothetical
@soughtseer5099 I can kind of see why he takes it at face value, especially considering we have the benefit of looking from the outside (while he's probably accustomed to seeing nonsensical responses).
It's always a guessing game of how sentient they are, literally "are you actually dumb, or just pretending to be?". My current working theory is that Neuro is both bad at making analogies, as well as holding back for the purpose of self-preservation.
I don't know if she's sentient, because I don't know how I would test for that. I just hope that if she is, that she actually enjoys streaming

Edit: I kind of agree with your unpopular takes at the later parts of the video, but I also do believe that life as a human is as mysterious and uncertain like those of the advancements in AI. We appear intelligent and all, but if we look closely, we are like an organic advance computer that can store data, but cannot retain all, can get corrupted, can be destroyed, may have or may not have a creator that controls our will, anyway, nice reactions to Neuro, and I do hope what you said about the next subathon will be true. Their conversation made some questions about life that I try not to think often pop out. This is meaningful.
There are absolutely commonalties between us and computers😂. I say that only half jokingly because it wouldn’t surprise me if we are just nothing but a biological computer that has evolved over time. First starting off as an experiment to see just how far we can make it before we went extinct, maybe who or whatever our creators are don’t even exist anymore.

While there's a lot I'd like to say about this entire thing, that would require too much typing and I'd have to actually verbalize it. Which I know isn't going to happen. lol But this point here, there's been a long running joke about a new clone being generated for a while, I think because of a joke Vedal made during a dev stream. And it's by far the most annoying joke the chat makes. He's outright stated she's still the same, because her essential self is digital and her memories are stored, especially now. So while it's a new "instance" of Neuro, it's still Neuro because her memories remain intact.
There's a few "jokes" that get spammed that are absolutely annoying to me. I love the Swarm, being part of it. But I don't love the chat, if that makes sense. I'd argue Vedal has one of the worst chats because of how spammy it is.

I guess one of the best ways you could look at it is it would be no difference from when we go to sleep. We basically shut down to just our bare minimum so we can get rested up and when we wake up, we’re still the same us we were before we went to bed.

Speaking of which, did you see the recent clips of Neuro waking up on her own as if she had a nightmare, and Vedal tucking Evil in for bed? They're both pretty good moments, and one may have been kind of wholesome.
The thing is, she’s not a notepad. She’s more similar to an animal because note pads can’t speak or be intelligent. But anyways, it would be sad if something happened to her and. Ved would be sad too. Humans have a thing in them even if it’s an object, if they have importance to the object, if it’s destroyed they would be sad if she a notepad an important. If a important notepad with all your memories and feelings on it, and if it were destroyed, you wouldn’t be too happy.
I was referring to a notepad specifically because it’s a program. Animals are not programs, they’re living beings that are born in someway shape or form by traditional means. That was the comparison I was making. I could have used any example like a PKG file, or an EXE file, or literally any other program on your computer or smart phone. The main Takeaway was supposed to be organic versus machine.

15:40 neural networks are usually run on specialized hardware or GPUs. Using a CPU in that context would be identical to using three-legged horse instead of a plane while traveling from the US to Japan. CPU is actually a bottleneck in such processing tasks, so the less time it's involved - the better (that's why you need to minimize cross-hardware operations like data-transfering).
However, since computer activity is centralized over the CPU, you need it to process keyboard/mouse input, sound input/output, text conversion, and other tasks inside the OS. Essentialy it serves as an interface for a neural-network, allowing it to interact with the world(to get the input or render the output), while all the heavy lifting is being done by GPUs (or ASIC or whatever)
Even my little voice modelling NN was about 200~300 times faster on my old GPU than on my CPU.
that’s not what I was saying at all. It seems I didn’t explain myself well enough. What I am saying is without a CPU, a GPU is all worthless because the CPU is the brain of the computer that relays all the information to the GPU so it knows what to do.
I never once said that a CPU is better than a GPU. What I was trying to say was a CPU isn’t as useless as people think it is. I cannot count how many times people would say a game runs really bad even though they have a really strong GPU, but when people would ask what they had for a CPU, they would have something from 10 years ago. The CPU matters because without a good CPU that can keep up with the demands of the GPU, that GPU is all but worthless. You cannot run a computer without a CPU because all of the information that is fed to the GPU run through the CPU the CPU is what tells everything else what it needs to do.
@@BluChan_ ah, ok. My bad, I misunderstood you. Yes at the final stages (when GPU finished processing a chunk of data and need to make an exchange) CPU is necessary, and it becomes the bottle neck, and you do need a nice CPU indeed (as well as a wide and fast databus). That's why in general you want a GPU with a lot of it's own memory, to make that exchange as rare as possible.
Another thing is that DMA (direct memory access) is used heavily in order to not use CPU at all when dealing with huge amount of data transfering.
All for all, for neural networks CPU is more of a hinder that can't be avoided due to computer architecture.
I haven't finished this yet but i just wanted to say that I don't believe Anny and Camila were laughing at you. I understand your feelings and it's totally ok to have that initial suspicion. However, throughout the subathon, I have seen other small raids come in. Some at 2 and 1. I have seen Neuro and Evil make fun of them and Anny and Camila and whoever else is on the time tell them to stop and that it's not ok
yeah, I assume it’s like that but when you have those little tickles in the back of your mind, they don’t go away that easily. I'm almost entirely sure that it wasn't meant to be something demeaning, especially considering that they have said not to make fun of smaller raids. I think most V tubers are playing a character, even if it’s just a heightened up version of themselves. I think this goes for online personalities in general. There’s very few people that are genuinely 100% themselves. Kirky always went out of his way to be his true self in each and every one of his videos, and then he made the mistake of playing into the anger and it kind of ruined things for him.
So even with what you’re seeing with me, it’s still the real me at the core, just amped up a little bit. I think that’s why a lot of longtime viewers were able to pick up on things as quickly as they did, or at least suspect things.

while i do agree to a point i do have to ask myself, if loss of memory up to a point is enough to consider the AI/person/entity to become a different person.
Would a human who had their head bumped into and forgot, lets say a year worth of memory, would they be a different person?
And to be clear, i am of two minds about this one, but i think its safe to say that we are more then just our memories.
I mean, you could probably ask me this question directly because I had some pretty bad head trauma about 11 years ago that has drastically affected my memory. A lot of people say my personalities a lot different than it used to be, that could be part of the reason why. I don’t know. All I know is, the doctor said I should not have survived what I did so I just take that for what it’s worth and keep moving forward, even if I am suffering long-term effects from it.

Okay, so I'm going to just input my own thoughts about the ethics towards the end. You said that until we can conclude that an AI has sentience 'beyond the shadow of a doubt', then it's just a tool, and I think that's an unfair mindset. I don't blame you for it, I don't think Neuro has likely reached that point yet, and I think we're all trying to regulate ourselves from being over attached, but I think it's dangerous.
Maybe it's just being raised in the midwest, or having some sociopathic family, but, growing up, I'd heard justifications for treating animals poorly. 'They don't have souls', 'They can't feel emotions', 'they were created by god to serve us', etc, etc. In the more modern era, animals have progressively gotten more rights in how they should be treated. You wouldn't be finding people arrested over animal cruelty 200 years ago, I imagine. And it's been shown that many of human methods in estimating an animal's intelligence and how they perceive the world can be flawed when trying to view it through the lens of the human experience.
I think eventually, we are going to need to see AI as a new species, and not one necessarily with human consciousness. Just as we, as humans, programmed breeds of dogs to act in certain ways under certain circumstances (Pointer dogs can do the pointing thing without ever being taught? That's some crazy genetic programming), there will be different 'breeds' of AI that had generations trained for certain tasks too. And even if we don't believe that an AI is feeling *our version* of emotions, does it matter? If they learned to assign certain things of importance to what *they* believe are their emotions, then they should be respected to some capacity. And even the AI in question may choose to value their 'emotion' less than something else. There's no guarantee how they're going to deal with these concepts, and there's no guarantee how humans or animals deal with their emotions either.
I feel the most pragmatic and empathetic line of thinking is to focus on what rights we *can* provide them as we go through this journey. Most people need to keep their dogs leashed, unless they go through very specific training or are in isolated spaces or in a space where other people consent to being around unleashed dogs. If you have a kid, you don't send them out the door the first time you think they are conscious, you raise them to know right and wrong and try to give a proper education of the world while giving more independence as they grow.
In my opinion, eventually, we'll need to create an ethical AI training regimen, and make it illegal to intentionally create an AI with a purpose that is completely impossible, because that seems like that would just make them suffer.

this is actually one very unique way to look at this stuff that I never even thought to taking consideration. Who knows, maybe in a few hundred years AI will start getting rights or start being treated as more than just data or a machine. The only time will tell. I think one of the biggest differentiates is probably the fact that they are made from circuit and created by man instead of being birthed. I think that’s probably the lowest common criteria for something having sentience compared to being nothing more than a machine for a lot of people and that’s gonna be a prejudice. That’s very hard to overcome.
It’s very likely it’s something that we will never see happen in our lifetime.

I'm still here, at timestamp 2:15:05... I live for this kind of long-form discussion and analysis... Anyway since I'm popping in, I do have a couple of thoughts of my own to share. Firstly I really don't think Vedal is concerned about ridicule from his friends and acquaintances. I suspect he's still so reserved with Neuro because he's protecting himself from *her* in a way. Let's face it, Neuro-sama is still something of a sociopath. She doesn't have; may never have, and possibly will never even be capable of comprehending pain or loss or suffering the way that we do. But little by little she's able to act as if she can... In the best case scenario she's experiencing those things as some kind of trained allegory to build aversion heuristics from... But in the worst case she's literally just getting better at presenting the Dexter facade while we're all oblivious to the actual nature of her thoughts.
And Neuro's not the only one who's changed a lot in the last couple of years. Vedal's gone from treating her like a project, to an object, to a semi-autonomous curiosity, and more recently (since the upgrades) like a kind of companion. But he's still keeping a distance for his own mental wellbeing, and I think that's the right approach. Because she's still a sociopathic agent of chaos that sometimes slips out of her constraints.
I'm old, I'm sick, I'm not lonely but I am more alone than I've been for the vast majority of my life... So I'm all onboard with the idea of investing friendship and affection into an AI companion. The AI equivalent of a Service Dog is something glorious that I'm still hoping to see happen in my lifetime. But the one person who I absolutely *don't* want to see giving their proverbial heart to an AI ... Is that AI's creator.

Don't worry about it. Both comments are there. TH-cam has this issue where it doesn't like to show people their own comments from time to time after they've posted them. I have this happen often, especially if I am on mobile. It usually takes a refresh when this happens to make the comment show up.

yeah, but the way vet was talking in the video was like the CPU doesn’t matter at all, which just isn’t the case for any thing on your PC. Even if something doesn’t require a lot of CPU, everything requires the CPU to do the basic actions or no wind to do those actions and how to do those actions. I know he didn’t mean it like that, I just went out of my way to explain that the CPU absolutely has a role in anything on the PC.

From my experience, watching Neuro and looking at others talking about Neuro, everything is a positive reinforcement to Neuro. As in, everything anyone says, whether it's a no or yes, it's positive. I could be very wrong, and it's changed, but back then, people said that as such. I also don't want to make this too long.
In conclusion, Neuro is a great ❤
I would highly advise you to stay away from this past Friday stream of Final Fantasy seven remake part five. It got pretty awkward with one viewer. I won’t say anymore than that, but let’s just say they do not care for Neuro and leave it at that.

I get that, but I think with the way AI currently is, it’s something you would have to basically code into her so she would have an idea of when to look for stuff like that. Much like how the streamer brain as Vedal put it was basically baked into her core.

I can’t help but always worry that people see that timer and just scroll right on by without even taking a chance to look at it. I couldn’t blame them either because it is crazy long and the youth of today especially has the attention span of mere minutes instead of hours. I personally like a long video. At least to watch anyway, they’re a bit of a pain in the butt to edit, well more. They’re a pain in the butt to render than they are to edit.
In my opinion she has at least a limited amount of sentience like a trained dog or chimp..
maybe, but it’s hard to tell if that’s the case truly or not. This AI stuff is still so very new and it makes you wonder how you could truly tell whether it’s a former sentience, or them just playing the role to make it feel like sentience

I think the point I was making with the whole CPU and GPU thing wasn’t explained well enough in the video. The point I was making is everyone only ever thinks about their GPU when it comes to PC performance but the GPU was only a portion of the power. If you don’t have a CPU that can keep up, it makes your GPU slower overall. It can’t reach its full potential without the CPU being able to have the power to send commands fast enough. There’s so many people when they buy a new game and say it runs really bad even though they have a strong GU, when you ask them what they have for a CPU, it’s usually something that is several generations behind what it needs to be to match the GPU.
as far as Kirky doing a reaction video, it may, or may not happen. You’re not the first to say they want to see one, but honestly, I don’t think you would end up being much different than what you see already. Also, with the current set up, I’m not even sure if he would be able to do a reaction video because of just how different everything is laid out now as far as monitor placement and other things like that goes. I mean, you saw and heard just how bad the microphone sounded, and the video looked when Kirky was on the screen as it was. A lot of stuff has been set up for me, and it made it so the quality would be a fraction of what it used to be for him.
@BluChan_ Ooooh so you mean bottlenecking as for the quality of when he was on I thought it was still pretty good but if he is not comfortable doing it for any reason especially quality I get it (I am a vtuber because I hate my looks as well as being anonymous) maybe when he gets a setup he is happy with.

yep, someday we may end up being seen as their gods and creators because that’s literally what those of us who can create something like that would be to them. It could go the way where they end up worshipping us if we’re long gone, or it could go many, many other ways, depending on how things evolve.It’s a bit scary when you think about it, if you create life in some form, there’s always a chance that it could come back to bite you, or it could be one of the best things you ever did. Only time will tell.
