Clint is the reason I play the harmonica. When he put out the song "State of mind" it had a lead in with Clint playing the harmonica and it just blew me away. I bought a harmonica and started learning how to play by ear. Surprisingly, I learned pretty quick. I'm still playing to this day so thank you Clint 👏👏👍👍👊👊.
Clint Black released 'Better Man; my first year in Country music radio in Denver. For the next 10 years he was so much a part of the soundtrack that was the '90s for me. He ages well and still sounds great!
I swear I'll always love this man, this singer. I always have & see no reason to stop now even though some of the metal bands have caprivated me this year. ❤❤❤❤❤ Clint!!!
Don't even know who or why Bobby Bones can grace the Opry stage, but Clint is a legend and deservedly so. He's part of the Class of '90s country artists that pulled me into the genre back then.
First time I saw Clint Black, He opened for Dwight Yoakam in El Paso Tx. Had to be 87-88. My daughter was born in 89 and it was before that. Been an absolute fan ever since. And we have the same Birthday haha.
I'm a gen-x grunge kid. I never liked country until Clint Black came along. He sent me down the whole rabbit hole...Waylon, Willie, Cash, Merle and too many others to name. Clint opened the door and I walked right in. He's such a genuinely nice guy. I met him once in a music store and he talked to me for maybe 20 minutes straight. He never brushed me off or acted like he needed to be somewhere else. He was just a normal, down-to-Earth type of guy.
I sat around in the cafeteria, study hall and detention with Clint in high school. Quiet long haired hippy, me. Quiet long haired hippy, Clint. In a redneck farmer community high school. Some bullying happened. But mostly without planning it, we just stayed quiet doodling on our book covers trying not to ruffle feathers. Things changed later but we really didn't talk much. He might have been quieter than me. His family must not have had much money. He wore the same long sleeved shirt almost every day. It was always clean but in my mind I think I could pick it out of a lineup. Back then a lot of kids wore the same clothes frequently. But it stood out he wore that one shirt so often. It was a style shirt to actually proclaim he wasn't a redneck, as if his long hair and flared bell bottom pants didn't. This was a school with real farm kids with cowboy boots fresh cow patties underneath, straight leg Levi's, and plaid shirts, button up shirt sleeves. Anyway, he seems the same. Down to earth, calm, intelligent, nice. When he did talk back then.

You're still that long haired hippy nice kid with thick glasses. We hung out one year in highschool. Without talking mostly. I think Ted Nugent was my favorite at the time (hurl!), but of course his habits he shared with Gene Simmons were too much to ignore. So cancelled that. Got into Rush & SRV after high school, and years later R&B Clint Black is top country music guy? I now understand, but then I was too busy in the recession making ends meet. I don't think I ever took much interest in country, but I don't avoid it like I used to. Back then, SRV live shows had all kinds of diversity getting along in the crowds. Before Texas, my best friends in Florida were my black friends on my sports teams and going fishing with them was more fun than my fellow white friends. Probably because of sports connections and listening to Motown together at practice and hanging around, but then came to Texas midway through high school - this fellow 'misfit' with Clint - and suddenly : Texas by comparison was really segregated. Culturally and geographically. So the same time SRV is in that organic integration, Willy's picnics were attended by rabid Confederate flag wavers. Remember that? He tolerated it because he had court and attorney fees because of weed, but we didn't know that then. It was like he embraced the klan culture. As did much of country music. So subconsciously I never allowed myself to enjoy country music. Because I grew up with friends who weren't white like me. But Clint Black never embraced that racism, I do remember that; he always knew who he was. He's not confrontational or an activist, but he's steadily himself. Decent. I've been very happy to know Willy has also always been decent, but got locked into an image because Texas Governors like to feel powerful as opposed to rational, honest and benevolent. Been going in the wrong direction in Texas. Even as segregated as Texas was in the late 70's still, people were nicer in general in Texas, all the way up to Tea Party garbage. That's when it turned more vile and divisive. Greedy. Real Estate Developers taking over, gentrifying everything. Granted, it probably wasn't great to be a person of color in Texas ever, but generally speaking, most people were polite in all kinds if ways people aren't now. Probably to some people of color, that they can go anywhere do anything it seems better, but we talk and remember folks were just overall nicer as long as klan peeps were in their coven caves. I suppose some day I'll try to yuck it up with Clint but we poor guys aren't allowed to break the barrier probably. Plus I went from shy to saying what's on my mind no matter how inappropriate it might be. I wouldn't be sitting there doodling on my book cover. But I am guessing we'd still get along. Never was anywhere close to the Maga Cult. Lying is a big waste of energy. Clint Black doing well because he's a decent man. And he deserves it.

That was a bad ass harmonica intro too, his guitar playing is second to a just a few. He can get down!

I'm jealous lol he was my first concert in 95, I was 4, but I was his biggest fan lol
Nice story. I never met him. I did meet Marty Robbins and Mark Wiils. Played while Mac Davis was in the audience but only my drummer talked to him.

Love your show..especially the little conversations ..about other Country Stars!! God Bless you & your beautiful family!!
