Same here, good to see you again. Yours is the first demo of this way of autocharging I have seen. Thanks for demonstration. The future is still coming! 👍
Alex, when you spoke to FastNed did they say why they were not using the 300Kw chargers similar to the ones they have in Belgium and Holland? You said that they indicated that they were planning more, even though they did not indicate where, did they say how many? Lastly I hope your wife got her visa sorted and the trip wasn't wasted time.
Hi Ian. Thanks, yes her visa was approved so it was a good day all round! I think future sites may have those faster chargers although I didn’t specifically ask them. Not a big deal for am I-Pace owner I suppose! 🤣 I know there are three new sites planned in the UK but no idea where.
I really hope so. Actually, I’d love Fastned to expand heavily, but they seem to be taking it slow. I think that’s a mistake, but as you say, hopefully others will adopt this. Ionity were talking about it, but no sign of it as far as I know.
Another useful video thanks :) As I have the same model year what would you estimate the 20-80% charge time at a charger like this which can match the max the i-pace will accept? Guessing as little as 45 mins or closer to 50?
Thanks! When I did a test at Ionity (you can find the video on my channel), I went from 18% to 80% in 43 minutes. As I’m sure you know, there are a lot of variables that affect it, but that should give you a fair idea.
I spoke to Fastned about this and it’s down to the host. Because they classify this as a “supermarket site” they think that most people will be plugging in and going to do some shopping rather than on a long trip and in a hurry. But they did say they routinely monitor sites and usage and will upgrade if it’s deemed worthwhile.
Thanks! They’re 39p per kWh. For a £9.99 monthly subscription you can get that down to 29p, but you’d really have to live in the Newcastle area and do a lot of public charging to make the subscription worth it. 100kWh per month to break even on the subscription cost. Agree that covers would be nice and usually Fastned do. But my guess is that this location (it’s effectively a lay-by at the side of the road) wasn’t suitable for them, or maybe couldn’t get planning permission for canopies again due to the location. But the good news is that with Autocharge you’re only out there for about a minute! Not standing there messing about with apps and QR codes.
Definitely. Competition will drive improvements. More charger choice will see customers going to the affordable and reliable chargers. It will also allow them to prioritise according to their needs. Budget tight? Try the cheap unreliable ones first. Hate hassle? Go to the reliable ones. In a hurry? Pay for the ultra fast ones down the road. But with Fastned you kind of get all three. Fast chargers (except Dundee), 39p price and seem reliable too. Also multiple chargers at each site is an added bonus. What’s not to like!

Hi. Thanks! It really was so easy to use, and no messing around with apps and phones. Same price for everyone too. The future is getting closer! 👍🏻
Nice one.
Thanks! 👍🏻⚡️🚘

Sorry I should have said it’s good to see you back.
Haha no problem. Nice to be back!
Looks like what we need, just a shame there are so few. Hopefully other providers will follow with the tech.

With autocharge, would be nice that when you plugged in, that you didn't have to press start charge, but it just started to work.
No need to press any buttons. It just takes a couple of seconds before charging will begin automatically. 😎
It’s not necessary I believe. I did it out of instinct but I’m told if you’re patient it starts anyway in a short time.
Yes it will start after a few seconds if you just leave it but that is the one thing I thought wasn't obvious
Yes, my instinct was to press the “start” button but you can see from the screen reaction that it was unnecessary.

I’m from Dundee , not seen the fast Ned chargers .don’t even know where they are
They’re in Angus Court next to the Peter Vardy Carstore. 50kW chargers only though at that site.
@@AbuDhabiDude why not fit 100kw chargers on a new site . Doesn't make sense

Great video. What is the cost of fastned, I know we are never satisfied but it is time to have chargers under cover.

That all sounds good, I guess as more of these sites open up it should force the poorer ones to step up to the mark.

@@AbuDhabiDude was told it was planning issues
Turn the hazard lights on and unlock 100kW, or does that trick not work for yours?
I’m not convinced that actually works in all honesty.
Autocharge: if they can do it ...
I know!
