One of the worst parts about this is the fact that young kids/teenagers are reading this. I saw a 13 year old reading the Twisted series by Ana Huang & all I could feel was sadness.
I lived during a time where kids (not just teens, but kids as young as 10) would deliberately seek out inappropriate adult content because they see it as "mature". It's just unfortunate how things never really changed. Not helped by the fact that the stories don't handle heavy topics properly and are CLEARLY meants for adults (18+) only.
I read The Song of Achilles when I was younger. Only one sex scene and it was very non graphic(prob still shouldn’t have read it)but what are they thinking?

Booktok scares me,, I hate romance and smut books. I really like books like to kill a mockingbird, the little prince, the original call of the wild, the only romance book I’ve really read and *enjoyed* is the song of Achilles. I wish people recommended more books like that, instead of romance/smut books 24/7. I want more books with an actual plot and theme and have morals and lessons. Whenever I get books now I tend to look for older books because a lot of current ones seem to be romance/smut, unlike older ones.

The Raven (Edgar Allan Poe) To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee, fair warning if you haven’t read TKAM, there’s a lot of racism and mention of/implied SA.) The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of my favorites of all time!) The Tell-Tale Heart (Edgar Allan Poe) Dracula (Bram Stoker, I don’t recommend starting with this one, but more power to you if you want to.) The Metamorphosis (Franz Kafka, this is a really odd novella, and some may not consider it to be a “classic”, but I really wanted to include it as an honorable mention since not many people know about it.) The Cask of Amontillado (Edgar Allan Poe) Animal Farm (George Orwell) It’s best to start with the shorter Edgar Allan Poe readings to sort of get a feel for what you’re getting into, and then work into the novels. I hate that stuff so much bro ;-; I was doing a charity project a year ago where we were sorting through books and graphic novels for young children in our sister school in the Solomon Islands. Most of the people with me who were sorting through the books did not realise half of the books they put in the kids-teens pile had inappropriate stuff in them. why? BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T PUT AN AGE RATING OR CONTENT WARNING ON THE BOOKS. Like who tf donates those god-awful 18+ smut books and thinks a group of teenagers would be able to sort through them!? As someone as a child who's been jump-scared before by inappropriate books and even media in general I NEVER want little kids, to come across smut books. So I always double-check and skim through book ratings to make sure it's appropriate. sure enough, I was able to put those books in the pile where we can't donate them (For some graphic novels I actually had to read through them or skim through to make sure how bad it is, I had a huge pit in my stomach after that cause that stuff scares me tbh). Here is a lesson for you guys on donating, don't romanticise it; you may think sending off your old books to a charity is the most saintly thing you've ever done, but the reality is we the volunteers are gonna go through the books, age rate them or dispose of them if they are not age-appropriate, also please donate books that are still readable, god I look through the donation cupboard and there's this books that are basically ripped to shreds- you need to be analytical with the things you donate, and you have to research where your donations are going to go so you don't send something not appropriate to the charity.
I've been a reader since I was like 4, I used to get bullied for reading a lot for liking to read; being called a "nerd" & such. It makes me so mad to see ppl turning reading into a trend when they're the same ppl who made fun of me :/ My dream job is a writer too and seeing how this trash of writing is so popular... it's nothing like mine :(

I really like books like to kill a mockingbird, the little prince, the original call of the wild, the only romance book I’ve really read and *enjoyed* is the song of Achilles. I wish people recommended more books like that, instead of romance/smut books 24/7. I want more books with an actual plot and theme and have morals and lessons. Whenever I get books now I tend to look for older books because a lot of current ones seem to be romance/smut, unlike older ones.

I hate that stuff so much bro ;-; I was doing a charity project a year ago where we were sorting through books and graphic novels for young children in our sister school in the Solomon Islands. Most of the people with me who were sorting through the books did not realise half of the books they put in the kids-teens pile had inappropriate stuff in them. why? BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T PUT AN AGE RATING OR CONTENT WARNING ON THE BOOKS. Like who tf donates those god-awful 18+ smut books and thinks a group of teenagers would be able to sort through them!?
As someone as a child who's been jump-scared before by inappropriate books and even media in general I NEVER want little kids, to come across smut books. So I always double-check and skim through book ratings to make sure it's appropriate. sure enough, I was able to put those books in the pile where we can't donate them (For some graphic novels I actually had to read through them or skim through to make sure how bad it is, I had a huge pit in my stomach after that cause that stuff scares me tbh).
Here is a lesson for you guys on donating, don't romanticise it; you may think sending off your old books to a charity is the most saintly thing you've ever done, but the reality is we the volunteers are gonna go through the books, age rate them or dispose of them if they are not age-appropriate, also please donate books that are still readable, god I look through the donation cupboard and there's this books that are basically ripped to shreds- you need to be analytical with the things you donate, and you have to research where your donations are going to go so you don't send something not appropriate to the charity.
I remember recommending dork diaries to somebody online and they responded with “i only read spice” brother you are 13.
I've been a reader since I was like 4, I used to get bullied for reading a lot for liking to read; being called a "nerd" & such.
