  • Monday, February 26th - Sunday, March 4th is National Eating Disorders Awareness week.
    According to Beat:
-Approximately 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder.
-10% of those with an ED suffer from Anorexia. 40% suffer from Bulimia, and the rest of sufferers struggle with Binge Eating Disorder (BED) or Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED).
-34% of adults are unable to accurately identify any of the symptoms of an Eating Disorder.
-Of those who did identify symptoms, people were twice as likely to list weight loss or being thin (62%) as a sign over any other.
    Eating disorders are defined as:
'Serious mental illnesses that involve disordered eating behaviour. This might mean limiting the amount of food eaten, eating very large quantities of food at once, getting rid of food eaten through unhealthy means (e.g. purging, laxative misuse, fasting, or excessive exercise), or a combination of these behaviours. It’s important to remember that eating disorders are not all about food itself, but about feelings. The way the person interacts with food may make them feel more able to cope, or may make them feel in control'
If you're worried you have an Eating Disorder please do use resources such as Beat and seek medical help immediately.
