      If you watch the whole DVD, the drummer spends pretty much the entire time looking extremely pleased about the fact he's on stage with David Gilmour. Funny thing is that he'd been performing with Gilmour for years - I've seen footage from the previous decade with the same drummer. But maybe the novelty of performing with a Godlike Genius never wears off.

    No pretension, no grandstanding, no showing off. He doesn't even try to look cool. Yet Gilmour in his jeans and t-shirt looks cooler and sounds better than any other guitarist out there. And all he's doing is standing there and delivering the most incredible solo of all time. How much professionalism do you want? All of it!

    • @francisa7143
      @francisa7143 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I was thinking the same thing. Yup. Gilmour and the whole band are not there to show off, they are there to deliver. And they do.
      I recently visited an exhibition on Pink Floyd, and the last room of the tour showed a movie of PF in concert, playing Comfortably Numb, but with the sound in earphones only. And there they were, 20 or so people of all ages and conditions, watching like hypnotized, who suddenly chanted all together : "... and I have become... comfortably numb." Uncanny.

      For me it that sumup the video itself. You can't explain what is to play with a unique genuius, you just smile and enjoy that unique moment. With no doubt: David Gilmour is for us what Beethoven was for his time and all the Music. One thousand years will pass and humanity - if it still exist - will listen, talk and deify this man. May God bless him and give us the honor and privilege to have him between for a long long time!

      That drummer has actually been a long time collaborator of David Gilmour. You can see him in his On The Island tours (search Remember that Night), so he is by no means unfamiliar with his performances. To him, its just another day of work, a job he has great passion about.

We will not be numb, but truly alive, for we will never die. Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, prepare your soul, do not get too wrapped up in worldly things, but seek the Lord while he can be found. This is soon to become the reality of things, and it will make the greatest of things down here now, seem like vanity.

    Usually, when a band plays their last song, the public goes "we want more, we want more". But when THIS is the final song everybody understands nothing can come next. We have reached the gates of heaven, passed through, had a taste of what that feels like, and then come back, realizing we have heard the best version of the best guitar solo ever.

      Strats, man. You gotta to listen to some more players who *really* know how to work with that Fender single coil sound. Start with Hendrix... his most famous stuff (Purple Haze, Fire, Wind Cries Mary, etc) actually aren't the best examples of what he could do. Try Little Wing, Bold as Love (original and instrumental jam version), Voodoo Child, Somewhere, Star Spangled Banner, and his intro to his cover of Like a Rolling Stone at Monterey Pop in '67. Next, I personally recommend certain Pearl Jam songs... Mike McCreedy is a personal favorite of mine: the outro of "Alive" and "Yellow Ledbetter" (studio versions of both) were what made me love the guitar. His live mashup of Little Wing / Maggot Brain is legendary stuff (which reminds me--definitely listen to the original Maggot Brain by Eddie Hazel, and don't be put off by the title.) Pearl Jam's live version of "Black" in Prague, 2017 is also *extremely* good stuff. I'm also a big fan of Cobain's guitar work--it really shows off and makes use of Fender overtones, albeit he didn't really do guitar solos.
      (A lot of people swear by Stevie Ray Vaughan as well, who was a huge Hendrix fan himself, though I personally think that while he was good, he didn't quite have the expressiveness that the truly top tier single coil players have.)
      If I had to pick just one from the above list... man that is hard, but I'm gonna say start with Eddie Hazel's Maggot Brain if you want to hear a guitar 'howl in pain and scream for mercy' from almost the very start of the song.

I mean... the most astonishing part about it is supposedly he improvised the whole damn thing in one take after someone said "imagine you just found out your mother died."
      If you do like it, I just remembered John Frusciante (of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame) did a sort of spiritual sequel to it called Before the Beginning that was pretty good.

I play multiple instruments, but playing live as a drummer is so rewarding. You start out maintaining tempo and rhythm, but when a solo not even close to as good as this begins you start to just follow the guitar and you’re jamming to their playing rather them following yours. With every change in melody, you change your beat and just get a chance to really enjoy and rock out to the music. It feels almost like an improv dance you’re doing and it’s ecstasy, but you’re part of it. That guy reached Nirvana and could’ve died right then and there with no regrets.

    The era of blues based guitarists has become an after thought these days. But, one lesson remains true. When you play the blues, especially when you play your solos, you play the notes as if the notes are being sung.
    Play your solos as if someone is singing the notes.. you'll understand why!

    First listened Pink Floyd in 1986, when I was 15. We had to pay extra money for their recordings to get them under table, because Pink Floyd was forbidden in the Soviet Union. 33 years since then and I never tired, every time goosebumps when l hear that guitar solo. Absolutely incredible version of the , probably, best guitar solo of all times. David Gilmore is like good wine, getting better with years. Thank you very much, Sir, for all you have brought to our lives.
