  • Once a 220-pound linebacker, Ted Strong returned from the Vietnam War wounded and emaciated, missing his right arm and left leg, but his fighting spirit was intact. 47 years later, his words were etched into the glass panels of the Disabled Veterans' Life Memorial, which reads “It's possible for a man to lose half of his physical being and still become whole.”
His moving story of living with disability and becoming the man he is today was shared by Laurence Fishburne at the 2015 National Memorial Day Concert. We are honored to share his story with you.

Every person in America should see this video. One of the most deeply moving stories about America's veterans that I have ever seen. God bless you Ted Strong and thank you for your service. America needs more people of your stature. What an inspiration.

WOW, what a story. I came home from Vietnam in 1970 and have been dealing with PTSD ever since, but that is nothing compared to what this brave man went through.

He should run for President. A real hero and patriot. My father survived similar injuries. He's my hero. Thanks for not giving up, you're an inspiration to all good people.

Then the temptation for him not to carry on, just to give up ... .. . What a hero this man was & is now setting an example for all veterans & others who have had traumatic life changes. Thankyou for this incredible video story. A real inspiration of living for family life.

At end of moving narration when they showed Ted & Queen - the look of love in her eyes toward him was beautiful. Larry F. did an excellent job here also. Thank you for this phenominal story full of philosophical greats.

And here I was, thinking that I have a bad life. Truly inspiring but let’s not forget his QUEEN. Takes a very special woman to not walk away from him and move on. That’s true love. Hats off to both of them👏🏽👍🏽🙏🏽😇
