How did you make that recommendation to do not drink coffee after 9:30 AM? I wonder how it's possible to drink 2-3 cups of coffee (or even more as stated in some studies you mentioned) and do it before 9:30 AM. So, personally, I think it's better to drink it later but drink 2-3 cups and risk more caffeine before sleep than decrease the amount and stop it before 9:30 AM.

200mg is too much I invite people to look a halflife calculator. 20mg before night impact sleep (so that means less than 80mg early morning)
at 200mg 8am that is 50mg 11pm! then still around 20mg before your next cup at 8am the next day
      so you will accumulate 220mg day2 then 240mg day3, 260day4 etc...

Isn't the real problem tolerance? Take 200 mg caffeine on first day, it works perfectly, take it next day, still works, take third day, no longer increases exercise/athletic performance much. Because now you have too many adenosine receptors, now you have to wait week/weeks to let your adenosine receptor levels readjust back to a more normal level. A separate study that worked with mice found that adenosine receptors in the forebrain died off by 8 days after eliminating caffeine from the mice's diets. At 15 days, however, there was still an increased number of receptors in the cerebellum.
So the real question is, how can we reset caffeine tolerance faster, does agmatine and magnesium help a little, or anything else?

Given that such a high percentage of the population consumes caffeine on a regular basis, I would be interested to see the degree of baselining between the two groups in terms of demographics, diet and exercise. Many. of us stay away from caffeine because it can cause negative side effects, including increased levels of anxiety and irritability.

Serious questions about caffeine before a workout:
    1) If adenosine is increased due to caffeine bonding to adenosine receptors, might this be why ATP increases and longer lasting capabilities to physically exert oneself exist when creatine is supplemented over long periods and then combined with caffeine before a workout?
    2) Will exercise at strenuous levels be more likely to reduce caffeine levels over time? (I only ask this because I personally feel like my brain is ready for sleep much sooner and rests much better on days of higher exertion at the gym or on the court, and Fitbit stats seem to agree with regard to breathing levels, heart rate, deep and REM sleep, etc.)

I put 2 heaped tablespoons of organic cacao powder in a large coffee mug and poured in boiling water to fill one third of the mug and stirred it well. I then filled the mug with cold water from the fridge and stirred the mixture and put it in the fridge. Over the day I consumed the cacao drink, stirring it each time. by the late afternoon I was feeling really exhausted. I felt my pulse and it was giving 2 beats, blank, 2 beats, blank etc. I looked up the side effects of cacao and found that theobromine in cacao could cause heart arrythmia in humans and kill dogs and cats. I now restrict myself to caffeine before lunch and the insomnia went away. It would have been good to try to separate the benefits due to caffeine vs benefits due to the polyphenol content in coffee. Some studies have shown similar health benefits from decaffeinated coffee, without the sleep-damaging properties. This is perhaps mainly from antioxidant effects of the phenolic compounds, similar to flavanols in tea and cocoa.
So perhaps better advice would be: have a cup or two of coffee early in the day, and try decaf later if you're in the mood for another cup.

I find this analysis to be highly suspect. Since these two drinks, coffee and tea, contain vast amounts of polyphenols and other compounds (and each drink has many functionally overlapping but physically unique compounds), it is hard to attribute these benefits to "caffeine". If this was a study adding caffeine to water, then I would say that these conclusions could be attributed to caffeine.

U-shaped curves often have logic. More than 4-5 cups a day and you’re likely drinking too much caffeine closer to bed.
The other mistake is anything with protein within a couple hours before or half hour after can interfere with flavonoid uptake so it’s better black or with cinnamon or other substance.

Re: the studies on caffeine - I wonder what people would be drinking instead - say soda pop/colas - that would contribute to diabetes & heart disease. So maybe the findings should include that? A control group drinking only water vs the caffeine cohort vs soda drinkers might be a better research construct.

Any disadvantage to this over fish oil? Also, do you recommend a different regimen for a 60 year old type 2 diabetic? I know you recommend 4000 IU of d for prediabetics, and I take berberine and turmeric. Thanks, Brad!

I only have a cup of black coffee 2 hours after a good breakfast after which I go cycling for about 10 kilometres and perform exercises like push ups, sit ups, squats, heel raises and exercise with a resistance band till I am tired. I feel great and my pulse and HbA1c levels are low. Never add milk to your coffee as our bodies do not tolerate the A1 milk of animals. I go to bed at 2230 hours and wake up at 0500 hours daily. Never have coffee first thing in the morning.
