26 minutes in, when you went to lift the motor, the reverse was still locked in, I can share with you what I did on mine, I added a small piece of shock cord to the reverse cord, tied back tot he motor mount and it will pull the cord back in case fishing gear or whatever yours just got caught up in, it could potentially be a. bad deal if it accidentally got locked down and you bump a stump etc, My video will go live on Thursday on the mods I did to add this to my kayak if you want to see how I added the shock cord to keep the reverse lock free from sticking locked. Great job on this video as always my friend. Dale
I got my nk180 on Black Friday it was delivered in 2 days didn’t realized Newport Vessel was located in Stockton , California only 25 miles away. Excited to installed on my Old Town PDL 120. Thanks for showing us the video I really like that steering concept I ll do something like that 👍
Great video! The Tim Percy steering system looks like the best solution out there for anglers wishing to keep the cockpit area in front of the seat clean. For how much equipment is on this kayak, it's amazingly organized! Looking forward to seeing some performance reviews on here for your audience to enjoy.
I have this exact setup but on my native titan 13.5 it’s amazing just like you said the nk300 gets me to my point then I drop my xi3 in and work it as I would on a bass boat. It’s awesome
" Long comment" lol Having both motors, is great to be versatile. T.J. beautiful install bro, as always and she's a beast. G.B. Hit 7.2 mph on his 3hp Torqueedo on his Titan 10.5, and that's a slow boat. He may have been with the tide, not sure. Now he runs his the NK 180. But the NK's i believe are just faster, with brushless motors and props. The Hobie hulls seem faster. I run my J2 PP-768, I'm 5ft 8' 162 lbs, and the Bixpy does just fine. I will adventually, upgrade to the 3hp. Can't wait to see the maiden voyage. I'm also OCD, with the Kayak my truck, and my other hobbies. There's the the boat, fishing, gun range. Then my collection of military Battleships, fighters planes, dvd,'s, from WW2 To now. And now learning my Drone. Good luck bro. 😂 🌊 🛶 🎣
Wow! Great info and lot's of awesome install ideas!! That one comment on the trolling motor design and use is golden. Not a lot people realize that and end up burning their motor up. :(
Please correct me if I'm wrong,,,, for most kayaks we need to subtract the weight of the kayak from the max weight capacity,,,,, if so PA14 weight capacity is 600lbs - 130lbs hull = 470lb net capacity. Im trying to rig exactly the same but a little concern about total weight. According to manufacturer specifications weights go as follows: XI3 40lbs,,, dakota 100Ah 32lbs,,, NK300 25lbs,,,, 36v 40Ah 29lbs. Net PA14 capacity 470lbs - 126 lbs (Total weight for both motors with batteries) = 345 lbs for all gear, tackle and fisherman.
Great video I love seeing your kayak rigging. I’m following very closely to your exact setup. This might be answered already, but is the 40ah enough for that motor? Can you get more than an hour of straight high speed commuting, or is that about it with the 40ah? Thanks!
wow!! awesome job!! you are a genius with all the install ideas you used!! A year later, what are your thoughts. Would this be the motor you buy today. Keep up the great work!!
You mentioned you can add more Caribbeaners to trim motor at different angles for various water depths. I'm wondering, does the hand steering still operate correctly while trimmed up?
Amazing setup. I just installed the NK180 on my PA14 360. Curious to see what speeds you’ll see with all the weight you got. I also picked up the T.P mount and it is a flawless install.
@@KayakUSA1 I locked the motor down and just use the rudder with no other steering. It works fine for now, but I am cautious to slow down before applying so much torque to the rudder
@@WVkayakfishing Steering with just the rudder works ok with the NK180. I found the rudder is almost useless with the NK300 at higher speeds. The combination of the speed and large foil on the NK300, which aft the rudder, takes everything away from the rudder

What happens if this flips? I’d test to see if you can righten it and get back in with all the equipment in place as it would be when you are actually fishing. Use a pool or some controlled environment. That’s a lot of stuff on that kayak. Better to know beforehand if you’re going to have a safety issue.
Looks sweet TJ! Nice job as always man. One question. If your using your right hand (& having to keep that hand pulling the reverse knob to keep the motor locked into place), don't you still need you right hand to steer while backing up. Just curious how that'll work. As always, thanks for GREAT videos man!
I have the nk300 on my PA 14. How do you prevent the lift arm from bending when you pull it to store? The motor tends to rotate when you pull to store causing the lift arm to bend.
Hey Tim! Did you get to see the live premiere? You may have been in the comments section instead of the live chat room with us. But I think you can go back and see the chat room still 🤙🏼
Just wondering have you got a weight for your kayak after adding everything? I doubt you’re close to the I think it’s around 600 but just curious if you have a guesstimated weight for everything? Kayak looks awesome though 💪🏻
@@KayakUSA1 wow that’s crazy. I’m gonna have to run over a scale with mine one day loaded down and then with most of the stuff off of it to see how much difference I have
It’s an older batter box, in order to use it with the lithium, you’ll need to unhook the battery gauge that’s built into the box. I have this box linked on my kit.co page www.kit.co/kayakusa
Another great video. I’m trying to decide on which motor I want to go with . Can’t wait to see you test it out . One question, did you figure out how to stop the Hobie live well from losing water . Thanks

Awesome video man! But if your kayak already has hand steering could you just connect the existing cables to the steering triangle on the nk300?

When the motor is in the stowed position, you can still steer with the rudder as you normally would.
I was wondering that exact question!
You briefly mentioned you have spot lock. On what exactly? Do you have another trolling motor.
another great video! i love the newport over one other or two brands because of the freedom to use your own battery.
Totally agree!

How much weight have you added to your kayak?

What is the size and line you used for your stow line

Question for anyone using the NK300, anybody found a rock guard for that motor ?
Hey from Eufaula
You got like $15k in the kayak setup
So what is the total weight?
What battery box is this? It looks like the smart battery box Newport sells, but they claim it’s not compatible with this battery.
