I was born and raised in Florida. It used to be a great place to live. When I was a kid, mostly what Florida was was cattle ranches, dairy farms, Orange groves, and many different types of agriculture. Just about anything will grow there. But then Disney came in, followed by a slew of theme parks and the unchecked growth began. Now it is so crowded that is almost impossible to get around in any major city. When I retired, I moved to Montana. It reminds me in many ways of the way Florida used to be. I’m sometimes sad about the way it is there now, but I absolutely love Montana. I will never leave.
Yep, I would love to move to Montana, but prices are still jacked up. Have to laugh about people moving to OR and WA where I come from. Politics are terrible, getting worse, and destroying the cities. There is no hope for the foreseable future.
@@bjelfin Stay! Don't move, please. I would love to go and move to Montana, but the cost of digging a well is too astronomically expensive for now. I am looking at about nearly 800 feet that has to be drilled into the ground, if I want water.
Another great video... but very surprising that people, who got a taste of Montana would leave it. I guess my wife and I have become "Montana-centric", after moving here over 17 years ago from the SF Bay Area! Once we left CA, we never looked back and have absolutely NO REGRETS! People we knew there and worked with thought we were nuts moving to Montana and told us that we would be back. Every-so-often, we're asked, "How do you like it there?" Our reply is, "We hate it! It's terrible and you shouldn't come here!
It's horrible having 12 feet of snow almost all year round. 😮 If you look up on TH-cam a video called "So you want to move to Montana" it's an awesome video.
The people leaving Montana for states like Washington and Oregon are probably people who politically lean left-of-center and dislike Montana's conservative bent.
The wildfire smoke that seems to be every summer now is messing with my asthma, considering moving. Don’t really want to but my health is going down hill😢
This is a great video! We moved here 25 years ago from Kentucky. We came out on a vacation and fell in love with. We are now true Montanans and won’t ever leave.
Very interesting, can’t believe people would move away from MT, this is the last best place… We moved here 11 years ago and absolutely love it! Enjoyed your video again.
Native Montanans can’t afford to live in the state that their families have lived for generations because of these out of state Covid refugees with money. Believe that.
I’m born and raised in south Florida (60 years) and would move to Montana tonight if it weren’t for work. We’ve had a place in Montana for over twenty years and love everything about it. Spectacular scenery and native Montanans are the best people you’ll ever meet. We do all we can to fit in and offer no south Florida influence. And we do a lot to support our little town financially. I actually don’t want people moving to Montana. I’ve witnessed unmitigated migration to Florida and it has been ruined for us natives. Sounds hypocritical but most arrivals to Florida have changed it culturally. And not for the better.
Well stated. Very same thing here in AZ!!! Many have left due to how it's been changed - and not for the better. A previous poster correct - relocation pretty much always comes down to political issues, direction, etc.

@@kdub1666I have a friend that lives in Prescott. She is getting irritated because it is going through a population boom right now and all the plates are from California.

Those coming to South Dakota are coming here because there are less Californians than there are in Western Montana, and because of the laws, not because of whether there are planes or mountains. It’s the law’s and regulations that MT they’re leaving Monday as voted in. Montana has been infiltrated by a lot of stupid laws, and poor governing. Montana is one of the prettiest areas in the United States, but if the laws and regulations don’t make sense and smell like California, then you’re going to have turnover. Just some input from someone who has lived in both the Black Hills, and the Bitterroot Valley.
I have always explained to ppl that even though they might not realize why they ultimately left Commifornia and came uo north to MT, ID, WY. Bottom line it comes right down to politics... why did you leave CA? Crazy high taxes, high cost of living, crime out of control in CA? Don't feel safe in your old neighborhood, quality of life is going to hell in a handbasket.... when you break it down... it all falls back to choices made by the government that have caused CA to become the dumpster fire it is. Then I ask them why MT? What makes you pick MT? Change of pace? Feels like home? Sense of security... like you can allow your kids to move about freely without thinking someone will kidnap them? Over all quality of life? Fresh air? Outdoors activities like fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, pretty much anything you can imagine. Every person pretty much will agree to everything you have said so far. Then I tell them, the best thing I can tell you if you want to fit in and have a great life in MT... is that MT is a lifestyle, it is a way of life that provides so much more than CA will ever have. You need to adapt to how we do things in MT. We don't like to hear things like "well why do ypu do things this way or that way? Because in CA we do it a different way". Well that's great that you do it some other way in CA... MT is not CA and we don't want it to be like CA.. so you need to learn to do it like we do here.. you left CA for a reason right? If you try to make it like the place you just left because you had enough of the nonsense there, then why would you want to CA my MT? I would never go to CA and try to change there way of doing things to be like MT... so when it comes to elections, u wint tell you how to vote, but what I will tell you is that we don't vote for crazy things that come from the left. So adapt and make sure you don't vote for destruction by demonrats. You would be surprised how many ppl will actually agree with you if you sell it to them the right way.
@@colleenahrens8750I couldn’t agree more. I’ve seen the little town of Red Lodge get more liberalized in recent years. They even had to infiltrate the 4th of July parade with their “agenda”. I always say the left is dedicated to ruining all things good.
We moved here from the People's Republic of California a few years ago. We love it here. The skiing, hiking, biking, etc. What we don't love is the high grocery prices, or the long drive to get to a Costco/Sams/Winco, the high gas prices, and the throngs of tourists that invade our neck of the woods every summer.. However, it is the taxes and low wages that are making us want to leave. On paper California has higher tax rates and we originally liked the idea that everyone pays roughly 7% to income taxes. While we make more in Montana than we did in CA, we don't make more money that equals income taxes that are 7 times what they were in CA. Yes, we pay 7 times more income taxes in Montana while only making about 15% more than we did in CA. To top it off, our property taxes doubled in two years while at the same time Governor Cadillac Gianforte was able to get the property taxes on his multiple homes to go down while his neighbors' property in Bozeman went up to $12K a year. Now, we've been trying to sell our house for two months with no offers at a price that is barely higher than what the state reassessed it at and we've had no movement. So, clearly, our home is not worth what the state appraised it at yet we're paying property taxes as if it was worth what the appraised value is. The other big , big issue in the state is the horribly low wages. Montana continues to be in the bottom five of the 50 states for median US wages. Our child is at MSU studying to become a teacher... Do you know what the median starting wage for a teacher in MT is? About $32K a year. This is laughable. The median wage for a tenured teacher is about $50K a year, which is still laughable. We are looking at moving to Arkansas now because their governor and legislature made it be known that they actually value teachers and will now start new teachers at what tenured MT teachers make, $50K. Plus, our child can actually afford to buy a home in Arkansas whereas Montana is priced out for everyone except rich west coasters. Our child will be moving to Arkansas once graduated because $32K isn't even enough to live on in MT, so we will go where she goes. Btw, I'm a registered republican in this state, but Cadillac Gianforte will not have my vote this November.
I went to MSU Bozeman graduated in 2014, and I stayed for another 4 years after I graduated. I lived in Bozeman for 8 years in total. Sadly, Montana doesn't have much in my field. The jobs you do have in my field are hard to get. I miss living in Montana, but money doesn't grow on trees. I know live in Tennessee. Miss ya Montana!

I am from AZ originally. I moved up to West Yellowstone sight unseen... i had never visited MT, ID, WY. The furthest north i had been was southern Utah. My bestfriend had moved up there and kept bugging me to move up to MT. She would tell me just get a uhaul and cmon, i can find you a job and a place to live. Finally i had enough of living in an oven and decided to give it a try. I moved up in June 2001. I had to come during the few days of summer because i was sure i would like the cooler summer temps but was absolutely positive that i was going to freeze to death and die when winter arrived. Lol. As it turned out I loved the winters, and it was the first time in my life where i actually got to experience all 4 seasons. For about the first 2 months being there about 98% of the ppl i would meet had also come from AZ. I was almost convinced that the whole state of AZ decided to follow me. It was wild. I met my husband while living there in West Yellowstone. His parents lived in MT but had a winter home... where? In Arizona of course. As i would meet more ppl from MT i discovered that a lot of them had some sort of friends or family or 2nd home in Arizona. So there is definitely some sort of connection with AZ & MT. I think it is because of how completely opposite they are of each other. I remember one year coming home for vacation during off season and my hisband who grew up in Washington then his family moved to MT. the first time he ever seen a cactus.. he was so amazed by them, couldnt believe he was seeing a cactus. Lol. I was like yes, its a cactus, being around them my whole life i couldnt understand how a person could be so fascinated over a cactus. My sister and I couldnt stop laughing at him. We ended up taking a cactus home to MT. I told him it would die from the snow.. he said no i will keep it inside. 😂😂. Years later we ended uo moving back to AZ and that dang cactus now sits outside in our yard and has actially grown quite a bit. I want to move back to Montana but holy smokes it was getting up there when we left and is way out of control in cost of everything.
Wife and I moved from AZ to MT a year ago. Can't understand why someone would do the inverse. Yall think Billings and Missoula are bad...Its gettin crazy down there. Also, the heat may be dry...but 115 is still 115.
Love MT. But it’s changed so much. Leaving it to go back to the lastest bestest place (AK) before it becomes the next MT 😭😭 We’ll occasionally be snowbirds and come back south to MT to visit family in the winter 😂
All of the states you mentioned look like places where employment is available. I moved to Montana, but I am retired so employment isn’t a concern for me
Our familly of 4 is moving to billings next August. Your winter doesn't scare us where from the northeast lol. Love your content and love the state. God bless you all. P.S . Billings crime is a joke. If you're from montana, then Billings is bad. If you're from ANYWHERE ELSE, then Billings is a paradise.
Good job describing where everyone is moving to , lot of speculation as to why they are moving. The bulk of the people in your list seem to be moving to the coastal states or Arizona and money / jobs may well be the reason … politics … well … making a living and feeding your family comes first and they can always do as the professional politicians do .. change their minds on politics to make a buck.
Got it right for me. I love it in MT, the outdoors abd politics, but have to move to TX for a good job. Cant live here until after youve made your money and retire. Then youve got maybe five years to enjoy a nice fice acre hobby homestead before you are too old to maintain it!
Arizona 😂... Well? They can have it..(just retired from there after 33 years lol TO Montana...full-time) it's very much turning NOT akin to Montana politically.... If you're lucky enough to get to higher elevation (Prescott, Mogillon Rim Country/White Mountains, Flagstaff ) you're lucky.. otherwise.. make sure you have 24/7 access to compressed air ;)
No surprises here. What they don't tell you is summers are hot, smoky and getting much worse. As global warming intensifies it will become an even worse place to live. It's not like they show you on TV
Interesting! I'm an Arizonan, and with the political mess(es) here, I'm tempted to leave. I've looked at MT but prices seem absurd. Also unsure if I could manage the winters - I'm soooo spoiled. But I think this video misses a big point > in my view, many of these folks relocating to the leftist (western) hellholes of WA, OR, and CA may be doing so due to the other F word, family. We have a lot of seniors these days, and their kids may be headed to them, or vice versa. Then again, the kids *may* be returning to their folks to live in their basements!! :) I dunno, leaving here makes my heart hurt; I love the state so much. But things will work out. Thanks Will, for your efforts :)
Wow, I never wouldn've thought AZ. What are the odds of finding someone wanting to switch AZ/MT homes? :) Speaking of smoking hot Will, is that background haze or smoke from a wildfire?
@@LivinginMontana1Id love to know how many days during the fire season has smoke? Can you smell it? I do see that the smoke behind you does limit your beautiful lake view a bit. Thanks! Love your videos!
You would be amazed at how strong of a connection there is between MT & AZ. I think it is because they are two completely different worlds. One has 4 real seasons and the other place looks like everything is just dried up dead from the 2 seasons they experience there, which are hotter than hell, and a little less hot (that would be winter time) In AZ the hottest day I have lived through was 126° in Phoenix in the late 90's. The coldest I have ever lived through in MT was --58°
The BIGGEST reason people are leaving Montana is the TAXES. The property taxes on working people are so high their house payments have DOUBLED in the last 5 years. Then to ad insult to injury, the state offers a 40% rebate. The question is why did they charge that much in the first place? They are still taking more than they need! The next reason is like the situation the west coast is seeing. The bigger cities, Missoula, Helena, Butte, Bozeman, and Billings control the state. People in smaller towns have no voice.
What a silly title. Mt was around 650k people when I moved there in 89. Now it's 1.3-1.5 million people. Anyone with a brain knows it's gone insane with growth and new people.
I know 2 different people who dont know eachother but moved from missoula to olympia. They said missoula isnt trans friendly lmao. Good riddance. Oh had to add i had some friends move to midwest because its so much cheaper to live. Now that makes sense to me.

Thanks for sharing. I'm like your spouse > I love cactuS! Can't wait to find my home and have my own yard!
Great video! I thought for sure one of the Carolinas would be on the list since we are getting ridiculous population growth here.
Wife and I moved from AZ to MT a year ago. Can't understand why someone would do the inverse. Yall think Billings and Missoula are bad...Its gettin crazy down there. Also, the heat may be dry...but 115 is still 115.
So surprised Colorado is not on the list.
Agreed!
I moved here in 2011 from Colorado. I will never move back.
Trying to get out to Montana 🎉
You won't regret it.
Love MT. But it’s changed so much. Leaving it to go back to the lastest bestest place (AK) before it becomes the next MT 😭😭 We’ll occasionally be snowbirds and come back south to MT to visit family in the winter 😂
We are thinking of moving to great falls montana.
Hi Will! Once again, great video!
Thank you again!!!
Moving to, great video subbed 👍
Politics in montana are a reason to leave Montana. Growing up in Montana I was proud of the people now its appalling.
Let us know if we can help next summer!
@@LivinginMontana1 I 100% will thank you so much for all yall do.
Liked & subscribed 🙂
Awesome thank you!
Thanks for your info alway's interesting!
And Missoula Mt don't have good paying jobs at all
Very good info 👌
Thanks a lot
It must be Californians moving back after their second winter. Everyone is leaving this state not coming here.
Hey Courtland, I agree!
I knew you would like this list!!
I’m in Saddlebrook North Catalina and I love it. 3600 foot elevation no problems.
I knew you knew..I would lol 😂@@LivinginMontana1
No surprises here. What they don't tell you is summers are hot, smoky and getting much worse. As global warming intensifies it will become an even worse place to live. It's not like they show you on TV
Global warming is one of the biggest frauds put on the American people. Do your homework and you will understand.
Nice try. Everything you said is false, but if that keeps people away I agree.
I dunno, leaving here makes my heart hurt; I love the state so much. But things will work out.
Thanks Will, for your efforts :)
If anyone in Montana want to move to CT, I'll be happy to do an even switch. I don't care if you have a shack to trade. Let's do it!
This should be a service.
Yes, great idea! If anyone in MT wants to move to NC, I’ve got a 3 bedroom house on 17 acres with a big shop, and an in-ground pool for you :)
So, who's keeping track of these people & why ???
Your tax dollars at work!
Everyone needs to know the trash has been taken out
Moving companies compile numbers, as does UHell, oops I mean U-Haul.
Why would anyone leave Montana for hotter than hell, Texas. It's hot for most of the year.
I'm a native of Arizona (4th generation) and would love to move to Montana. I'll gladly swap places with a Montanan if we can make a deal. 😆
I definitely hate California!!!!!
Wow, I never wouldn've thought AZ. What are the odds of finding someone wanting to switch AZ/MT homes? :)
Speaking of smoking hot Will, is that background haze or smoke from a wildfire?
Unfortunately, its already wildfire smoke!
One has 4 real seasons and the other place looks like everything is just dried up dead from the 2 seasons they experience there, which are hotter than hell, and a little less hot (that would be winter time)
In AZ the hottest day I have lived through was 126° in Phoenix in the late 90's.
My property taxes and insurance have tripled in the last 7 yrs. The two together now are more than my first house payment
Minnesota in 1970, ok. Minnesota 2024, no way.
100% right on. Lived here since 77 and it isn’t the same, somalistan now
Check out my sister's fresh produce, top of Findley Point, no Montana cherries, they lost their crop due to late frost again.
Yes, BAD year for cherries!
A late frost was not the reason the cherry crop is minimal this year. A cold snap in February was what caused this year’s crop loss.
What kind of sick people would leave the most spectacular state❤in the United States for those other states? It's madness, I say! Maaadness!🤪
Hope its all the liberals realizing Bozeman and Missoula arent going to be their Los Angeles or Portland
Chicago has the worst cumulative number of sports teams in a large city. That's it-that's the list.
Blackhawks 3 Cups, Bears 1 Superbowl, Cubs 1 World Series, White Sox 1 World Series, Bulls 6 Titles? Minnesota 0 titles in that span!
🤣🤣🤣 sports
What a silly title. Mt was around 650k people when I moved there in 89. Now it's 1.3-1.5 million people. Anyone with a brain knows it's gone insane with growth and new people.
I know 2 different people who dont know eachother but moved from missoula to olympia. They said missoula isnt trans friendly lmao. Good riddance. Oh had to add i had some friends move to midwest because its so much cheaper to live. Now that makes sense to me.
Wouldn’t Move to Montana. Their wages and benefits are pathetic. Medical in the state is Mediocre.
Gross this place grew like this. Disgusting
