HERDY GERDY, PS2: i don't have a nose review

- This month I'm trying something a little different! This is my first review of a game that's not based on a pre-existing franchise. Herdy Gerdy is often referred to as a 'shepherd simulator' but in actuality, this makes it sound a lot more tedious than it actually is. While I do think this game requires a hell of a lot of patience, it's nonetheless a surprisingly ambitious game, especially considering its age. But while it certainly has its merits, that camera can quite frankly flock off.
Notes:
7:05 - While I say the creatures you have found 'will not be recorded', the game does remember your highest percentage - you simply cannot return and continue where you left off.
26:57 - I feel I should possibly have elaborated on this. There are four sets of creatures here, all in their own cages, and their pens are located in the cages of other creatures - you just have to make sure the gromps and grimps don't cross paths with the doops or honks.
For anyone who's interested, the anthills hold 12 ants, while the pipes in Foxtown hold 10 glooters.

I’ve had this game since I was a kid and could never get past the gorge. Went back to it when I was a teen and loved it.
This game has an certain charm to it
I played Herdy Gerdy all the time as a kid, and I'd wager it was the first game I ever played to completion. For some reason, I was frightened by a few of the levels and models in this game but now that I'm an adult and I acknowledge how goofy and harmless it all actually is, I'd love to give it a replay. Also, I still to this day love the music in this game!
I LOVED this game when I played it. It felt like a forgotten gem. And yeah, I'd agree the music is pretty good! I get what you mean about this game having kind of a creepy vibe at times, especially towards the end around the docks.

Fun fact : This game was produced by Core Design. The same guys behind the first six tomb raider games from PS1 and PS2. How about that ?

Very interesting review! Sadly had to watch this late because of life but it does look a bit interesting.
The fact that things look kinda samey would get kinda tiring though AND i hate games that keep track of % done but dont reward you with jack for getting 100%. Come on >.>

I think it's actually pretty varied for what is essentially a herding game. It's fun to challenge yourself but yeah... there should be a reward for 100% completion. 😕

Alright, this is funny to me, because some long time ago, I once saw the box-art somewhere and made screenshot of it, to find info on it aaaand that it looks like I’ve been neglecting to search for it until your video, haha!

The box art is actually kinda creepy. 😂 Also it's strange- all the artwork from the cover and booklet seems to feature early versions of the characters. That's why Gerdy looks so different in the thumbnail compared to the game.

Man, I dig the art style in this game, I just always love that Disney/Looney Tunes/Wakfu aesthetic... which is not what I was expected after that box art 0_о (funny to me, after reading about this subject in the comments of your video).
In any case, a very interesting concept here indeed 🤔, puzzle-platform are always an appalling genre and watching this video sure was fun!
Also, I found it hilarious how Gromp hits Gerdy 06:07 it’s legitimately exactly the same as of what happens in "Neighbours from Hell 2: On Vacation", haha.
Oh and, 08:20 I guess a really easy reference/joke from “Sheep Dog n Wolf", am I right? Cx
Ahh no, I see what you're saying but I made no references to SDnW here. It's funny cos one or two people have said this game is very similar. Besides the flute aspect, I don't see it at all. It's also strange you should mention that game as I played some of it yesterday.
Yeah, the box art is strange to me. The artwork of the actual game, as well as all the concept art, is well worth a look. No idea what happened with the box and booklet art, it looks so different from the game.
Personally, I really like this game, but it takes some getting used to. The camera is a real shame. If it weren't for the bad camera, I reckon more people might have given the game more of a chance.

Wouldn’t be interesting, if this game was rereleased or remastered for new a consoles with fixed camera, better AI and everything? As well as with the new box-art. For better experience that is. I mean, I know the game popularity would be a key for this possibility. But again, just wondered.

I personally would love this game to be remastered! It would never happen, I know. The deleted material sounds really good too! There was an entire level planned called The Hive, where you apparently had to herd bees, and certain bees would carry you from level to level of this massive beehive. Probably explains the big bee guy you meet in the game - he likely had a bigger role.

Originally intended for the Sega Dreamcast, until Core found the CPU wasn't as powerful as hoped and switched it to Playstation 2

I had a demo of this game but it wasn’t until the last several years where I bought this game from eBay. I never played it though lol. I just realized you look like an adult Noah Schnapp.
I see most of the comments are on the art style of the game and I do understand, the art style are on par with legend of kay...sort of, but if it ever gets remade(which is really doubtful) I would like to see it actually more in the art style of little dragon cafe, it feels like it would work for this type of game
I personally really like how this game looks. I think many of the characters look good and memorable. I think it would definitely benefit from being more vibrant though. I was concerned about recording it as at times the game can look really washed out.
BTW,since you tried this,could I maybe put in a request for you to try a beloved 3D platformer/PS2 classic of mine: Ty the Tasmanian Tiger? I think you'd really like it.

Now that you’ve brought up Wallace and gromit again I meant to say that when I was a kid playing that game my parents had a rule where I could only do the daytime levels before I went to bed in case I got nightmares XD of course I was a little annoyed at that but I’m glad they looked out for me but to be honest all these old games on the ps1 and ps2 have some fever dream quality’s to them although I have had ones recently about red dead redemption 2 :)
To be fair, the were-chickens and badgers are the stuff of nightmares.

well, here is a game I’ve never heard of before. these graphics are charming and ugly at the same time, but the premise is very original, and looks fun, if not a little repetitive and clunky. it is always fun to get to know new (old) games, great video!
Thank you! I think for its age it looks pretty good. It's an awkward game to record though as the graphics aren't very sharp. I recorded in the best quality I could. It's a little awkward to control but you get used to it. I really enjoyed it!
